Has it lived up to your expectations? Does the library of games meet your needs? Was it worth the money?

Completely satisfied.

I quickly amassed an extensive high quality library of games. It does feel like it lacks that niche diversity of the PS2 (my previous console), but those games just aren't being made either.

I consider it the only one of the three consoles that's actually balanced and fully fleshed in all areas. Despite some flaws, mainly to do with marketing decisions (eg overpriced wireless adaptor is bullshit, no hard-drive-as-standard is perhaps understandable, but still bullshit, online service should drop in price) it covers the bases game-library wise very well, I prefer the controller (if only the Wii had an updated Wavebird instead of that shitty dual-analogue thing) the online service is highly competent, firmware revisions have been really effective and there's interesting things in its future that we've been kept up-to-date about.

If it weren't for the design flaw which led to the RROD, I'd call it the very model of how a console should be done.

I'm very satisfied. My 360 has been used almost daily since I bought it 9 months ago. My only complaint is having to pay for the online service.

Totally satisfied. Microsoft have catered exactly for what I personally want in a gaming console. The game library is varied and has a great selection of exclusive titles, the online service, while premium, is still fantastic and the online support (via dash updates, etc) has been first class.

Without a doubt my favourite console of this generation. Great change from the largely forgettable original Xbox.

The NXE redesign was greatly appreciated as the original dashboard was a bit clunky

Well lets put it this way - when my 360 broke for a third time late last year while out of warranty - instead of buying a PS3 I went out and bought another 360.

It's a great console and yes, I'm satisfied.

I was right into the 360 when it was first given to me (courtesy of the Melb Crew <3) with Bioshock and the soon-after release of Halo 3. The controller was the right step from the Xbox v2.0, and the addition of the HDD was a great move - despite the initial release being the 20Gb model. I'm fortunate in that my regular TV is 60Hz compatible, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to play several games.

I got back into PC gaming for a while, though, due to not having the 360 hooked up to the wireless network. Despite this I still played the 360 quite regularly, with The Orange Box, R6: Vegas, Far Cry 2, Smackdown v RAW 09 and PGR4 all getting a thorough going-over in the 2 years I've had the same unit (currently playing Saint's Row 2 with a mate, and it's up there with the most fun games I've owned). When not in use for gaming, it serves as the household DVD player with a Logitech speaker setup attached to it.

As I've mentioned in another thread, I've just invested in a wireless network adapter and I couldn't be happier with the cohesion between the 360 and my Win7 PC. From the time I walked in the door with the package to actually streaming an episode of The IT Crowd to the 360 was no longer than 10 minutes, which I consider to be an incredible example of "ease of use".

My limited experiences with Live haven't been enough to convince me to pay up, and I don't generally buy new games regularly enough for it to become a viable option anyway, but the online system itself is, again, a masterstroke in "ease of use". I chose the 'matchmaking' menu in Halo 3 and appropriate games were found (or created) while I waited. What could be easier than that?

tl;dr: colour me satisfied

1. Very much so. From the second I put in FNR3 and was amazed at the graphics and experienced what the console could offer as a complete multimedia machine, I knew this generation of consoles would be something special.

2. More than I would have imagined. With so many previously exclusive games going multiplatform, and with the excellent range of exclusive titles, I have no complaints whatsoever.

3. It's my favourite console of all time... and i've been gaming for 20 years now.

I didn't want there to be any way for anybody to accuse anyone of being a fanboy because of how they voted on the polls. If you vote yes on this one and no on the Wii one, you're a "M$ fanboy" apparently.

Abso-****ing-lutely.

I've found that there's enough variety in its gaming range that there's no genre or type of game that I enjoy that isn't catered to on the console, and that I'd need to buy another console for to get my fix of. (And though people like to comment otherwise there is actually a hell of a lot of diversity in games on it)

And while the hardware can be unreliable, in three years it's only broken down once, I got it repaired for free and I sent it out and got it back within a single week, so I don't really see it as a negative aspect of the console.

My Xbox recently RROD after 3 years and I'm still totally satisfied. I've had some seriously awesome times with it and I've just recently picked up a whole bunch of games that are freakin awesome.

Just need it back...

PS - Multiplayer value has also been mega satisfying, expecially co-op.

I also booted up the Wii the other day and was extremely bored. Only did it because my 360 was away. My VC games wouldn't work on my HDTV either... must need some special cable or something.

I love my Xbox, my 4 controllers and my collection of multiplayer XBLA games. Some of the best times at our flat have been had while playing Castle Crashers, N+, Ikaruga, Trials or Worms. I honestly think I've got more hours of gameplay out of my XBLA games than my full-price titles.

Absolutely. I have an absurd amount of games for it, play it on a near daily basis, and take advantage of its other features too (movie downloading etc.)

Only complaint I have is the high RRoD rate, but other than that I'm probably happier with this than any other console I've had.

Love it. The actual console and I have had a rocky relationship (went through two in the first week, third sounded like a jet engine, fourth is a flawless Elite, fifth is my current NTSC-J console) but as a platform it's unrivalled.

Multiplatform games are invariably better on 360. It has much better first-party exclusives and exclusive content like the GTA Episodes. Xbox Live Arcade is packed with fantastic titles for relatively cheap prices.

Aside from early hardware unreliability, Microsoft have easily won this generation in my opinion. I haven't had access to my Wii or PS3 since I put them in storage in March, but I honestly don't miss them. There's nothing I've really wanted to play on either platform in the last six months aside from InFamous, which I'll get to next year.

Looks like the results of the poll are pretty resounding of my sentiment.

Yes - Amazing machine, easy to use, really comfortable controller, fantastic online setup (even if we have to pay, but $80 a year isn't much).

It loses points for hardware reliability though, I don't trust it which is why I tend to buy multiplatform games on the PS3 if they don't do much online.

I think I should clarify my no a little.

Its not that I dont like the 360, its just that I hate that it broke on me. I have one of the Jasper (or w/e, the one where RROD is meant to be gone) and the fact that it still RRODed on me is absolutely infuriating. Ive had it sitting next to my 32in 720p TV (which I coincidentally bought just for the 360) for about 5 months now acting as a large paper weight because I really couldnt be arsed fixing the thing.

Sure its got some great games, PoP, Mirrors Edge, Orange Box, but I keep finding that maybe, for myself, Ive bought the wrong system and should have gone with a PS3. Mainly because the 360 exclusives dont really grab me at all, although thats the same for the PS3, it just so happens that all my fav games on 360 are also available on the PS3 aswell so I think Id be better suited to a PS3. (Ive also got a Wii for my Ninty exclusives.)

So in reality I dont hate the 360, its a very competent and fun machine, Im just not satisfied with it.

AranchineD
06-09-2009, 07:15 PM
Well if it's meant to be one of the newer models then surely it'd still be under the 3 year warranty, why would you leave it there for 5 months broken when you could just easily send it off to be fixed in like two weeks?

Pauly

I havent had much time for gaming recently, only really PC has been getting any use, and I just havent felt the urge to get it fixed. Sure it would be nice to run through Mirrors Edge or something but Im just not feeling it with the system. Should also say that its only just over a year old. Bought it the day GTA4 came out.

Same thing for my Wii. Although I am more satisfied with it than the 360 because it hasnt broken down on me and its only my fault that Im not playing it right now. Its just going to be sitting there until I end up buying composite cables for it. I ended up giving my copy of the Conduit that I bought to a friend because I couldnt play it without a composite cable lol.

Also its 175w. What does that make it? Jasper or Falcon?

Jay
07-09-2009, 08:38 AM
Very much so. It easily gets the most use of all my current gen consoles/handhelds, has great online integration, a wide selection of games across all genres and price points, and the controller is superb (d-pad aside, but even that doesn't worry me too much as I'm not hardcore into fighters). I don't have too much of a problem paying for the online service when it is as good as it is. Mine has Ringed itself once, but MS were pretty good, repairing it swiftly and without fuss. It is a noisy ****er though. Whenever anyone asks me which of the current consoles they should get (and that happens more than you might realise - I must reek of geek), it is hard not to recommend the 360 over the other two (slightly dependent on their needs and gaming tastes of course).

I'm very happy with my 360 despite having to get it fixed twice but their customer support was very good (bit surprised there-both times it broke down I had it repaired and sent back to me within a fortnight) so that smoothed the waters quite a bit. Fantastic library of games, certainly no complaints there. So much depth and variety across all genres, I just wish I had more money at the moment lol. The only downside would be the breakages and the noise it makes but installing the games onto the HD cuts that down quite a lot. I got a Ps2 and its great but my console time is split 90/10 at the moment in favour of the 360.

My friend was going to get a PS3 but after playing my 360 so much he's gonna get a 360 instead.

its 175w. What does that make it? Jasper or Falcon?

Falcon. I didn't think it could be a Jasper since you said it had been broken for 5 months. The first Jasper units were the Red Resident Evil 5 Elites which came out in March this year. Jaspers have 150W power bricks.

You should get it fixed dude, I think the only expense involved is finding a box to put it in, I think they give you a reply-paid address to send it to.

These polls from Blue are really interesting, I mean I knew 360 was doing better just by the cut of Batman: Arkham Asylum purchasing (until recently it was 2:1 in favour of 360 over PS3, with PC hardly looked in) but it seems like a real figure of how the spread is right now - consumer confidence is going to be everything and it seems that 360 is shitting it in, at least with the "serious-enough-to-post-on-forums" demographic.

Hyper should probably have 50% 360 coverage, 25% PS3, 15% Wii, 8% handheld and 2% PC.

I'm just talking about the poll in the Batman thread on this site. It was something like 4 for PC, 13 for PS3 and 26 for Xbox for a while.

The DSE slim + Batman deal should boost it for PS3 though, and the Joker playable character.

Hyper has a pretty large 360 fanbase too, which would skew the results.

aubergine
07-09-2009, 02:28 PM
I would argue that AUSTRALIA has a pretty large 360 fanbase. I don't think it's anything inherent in the magazine itself, except that people who are serious or 'core' or whatever are more likely to buy a magazine about games, and more likely to be posting on a web forum, than the Wii Fit MILFs we are constantly told via Nintendo sales charts vastly outnumber 'real' gamers.

The reasons why Wii and PS3 have less of a following percentage-wise I'd argue are not about fan-boy-ism at all but that there are wholly tangible reasons why Nintendo and Sony's latest offerings have declined while Microsoft's have grown. The positives for 360 have been covered pretty well in this thread already.

AranchineD
07-09-2009, 03:15 PM
It's probably because Sony likes to screw Australia over that sales aren't as big as 360 over here, but in other regions the gap is certainly starting to narrow significantly.

I disagree. The size of the fanbase affects the size of the result, not the result itself.

Yes.
Once you get over the rage and accept that your machine will break down,
but will generally be fixed for free in a week or so, I can't find any major faults.

I've sent seven different machines in for repair, one went in twice, mostly RROD & E74, but I'm cool with that now.

Paying for online is great as we actually get a fanatastic system that is always improving & also helps to keep out the griefers

sure it died once beginning of this year (pretty good for a launch day console)
and sure the disc drive was loud, in fact the whole console is loud.

But it got fixed very easily, the continuous updates to the OS has minimized the noise by allowing HDD installs.
Achievements are brilliant
Xbox live, even though i dont use it much (cos i dont like people, most of the time) is still great.
there are heaps of games that i love to play
AND
XBLA seriously i never knew that i was going to play this more than full retail games but im pretty sure i have. from geometry wars to ikaruga to shadow complex there have been consistently brilliant games at impulse buy price all the time. and for someone like me that has much less game time available now days these are exactly the types of games i want to invest in.

i have a PS3, wii, decent PC and multiple DS's and none of them make me want to turn them on, where as the 360 turns me on, (hmmmm)

oh and its a media center extender and a damn good one and for people like me with a HUGE amount of digital content that is worth the price of admission alone

Creedy
09-09-2009, 12:53 PM
We're all waiting.

Didn't think anyone wanted to hear why.

The X360 had a great start for me, I remember going to my mates house and playing his X360 on his widescreen TV. I was in absolute awe at the machine and absolutely loved the games I tried out including GRAW, PGR3, Kameo and Geometry Wars Evolved. I also really loved it's online functionality and it's achievement points system.
Looking after my mates unit for a week and playing the X360 every night made me want to buy one and so I did. As soon as I bought my own HDTV and surround sound set up I also bought an X360 to go along with it. It was the trailer and gameplay videos of Lost Planet/Dead Rising/Gears of War that really tipped me over the edge.
It was November 06 that I got my X360 and GoW with it, I spent the next year loving my X360. Bought the games straight away that I wanted which were the above 3 mentioned titles and had a ball with them. I also picked up Rainbow Six Vegas, EDF 2012 and Flatout Ultimate Carnage which were great and 3 of my friends and I played through Marvel Ultimate Alliance once a week at my house(hoping to do the same with the sequel).

After a while my experiences started to diminish on the X360 and flourish on the PS3. Crackdown was so rinse and repeat, Bungie still couldn't get level design right with Halo 3 and Bioware did a sloppy job with Mass Effect.
I came to realize that paying money for Live was a waste as all I was paying for was the ability to do peer to peer transfers. I wasn't given any dedicated servers for games and so lag became a real pain in international matches. For someone like me who doesn't play online very often I felt I wasn't getting anything worthwhile in the subscription and PS3/PC offered better online experiences for free.
I also realized that my X360 can't be a media hub due to my limited 14GIG HDD (no way I'm paying so much to upgrade) and streaming from my PC was not an option as I think the X360's UI is way to bulky to even bother with anyway IMO the PS3 is everything you could ever want in a media hub, I could even get mkv files to play on it, plus it was a Blu Ray player.
My X360 started gathering dust, it had less and less exclusives that I cared about and nothing on XBLA was really enticing me. I never bothered playing anything online because of crap lag. I never watched anything because of it's crappy interface. It wasn't until GoW2 came out that I really turned it on to play it, loved the hell out of that experience.

But now my X360 isn't even at my house, it's at my partners house for her to play. The only reason I want to bring it home is to download a few Sega classics games from XBLA, Spplosion Man and maybe Shadow Complex.
All my gaming and entertainment is done on my PS3. I feel no need to even have an X360 really but I don't like selling my consoles.

*EDIT*
I'll also add that I was really annoyed when my X360 broke and I had to send it in for repairs. Not one single other console that I've owned has broken down! I won't praise Microsoft for offering free repairs and extending warranties either. The hardware is so bodgey they had to offer these things. The hardware should never have been so bad.

I think we've established that the X360 can be a media hub (and an incredibly good one, at that), and I've already covered how easy it was to stream content from my PC.

+1 to Lex's last post

That is good to know, I'd prefer my PS3 to be a media hub via TVersity.

Doesn't TVersity also support the Xbox 360? Just sayin'.

Don't know, probably, I already said I don't like X360's UI so I won't be using it.

Well, when all reasonable objections have been refuted, it's always easy to fall back on personal taste.

Isn't that what the bloody vote is all about? Personal taste?
I did my personal vote and I explained why I personally don't like the X360 so much.
Why are you guys trying to refute my personal opinion?

I'm not hugely impressed with the console, nothing you say can change my mind.
End of story really.

Except that you then accuse the rest of the forum of a Microsoft bias. So, is it personal preference - which is okay according to you (rightly) - or bias? You can't have it both ways ffs.

@Creedy: you also have a massive problem with the wording of your arguments. Observe (I've bolded key phrases):

You state this at first;
I also realized that my X360 can't be a media hub
And then this;
That is good to know, I'd prefer my PS3 to be a media hub

Now, when I read the first statement literally I asked myself if your X360 was different to my own ("If my X360 is a media hub, then why can't Creedy's also be?").

In the second statement you changed tack from erroneous comments to personal bias. To reiterate what Jay said, you can't accuse others of doing something that you do without looking like a nuftie (which goes for me and everyone else, not just you).

You should have just said from the start that you use your PS3 for everything.

EDIT:

I did my personal vote and I explained why I personally don't like the X360 so much.
Except that you hid your sole reason (disliking the X360's UI; which I personally think is fine once you've explored it a little) in between several sentences of misleading information.

That's still a pain in the neck if you have a grip of existing content.

Not terribly. The program I have has a batch function, and since it's a container encode it only takes about 10 minutes per GB of video. And you only need it for converting .mkv files, which are fairly uncommon.

If its Super please tell me your secret, my encodes take hours :(

Even though I'm chaning from mpeg-2 to H624 >_>

What he's doing is simply taking the video and audio out of the MKV container and putting it into a different, more compatible container. What you're doing sounds like transcoding, which rips the audio and video out, re-encodes it into a different format, and then putting it into another container.

It depends on the content. For anime, it's pretty much the dominant format. If you're ripping your own DVDs (which AFAIK is legal in Australia), you can choose your own format anyway. Handbrake has specific Xbox 360 and PS3 settings so you can just use those.

Yeah this. The video stream is still encoded in h.264 (which the 360 supports), but not in a .mkv container. Almost like a codec within a codec, crazy I know!

I wonder why (.mkv is the dominant format). So far I've been using autoGK for my DVD ripping, but am interested in playing around with h.264 if it means a better encode (pretty soon HDD space will be a non-issue anyway). Might give Handbrake a look.

Such a brilliant console.

Everything is just integrated so well. I've only recently discovered Arcade but it is brilliant.

Between work and the CA program I only get to play a few hours each week and the Arcade delivers the perfect experience.

In comparison my PS3 has only been switched on once in the last few months and that was so I could have glitter on my UI.

Had mine for ~3 months. Happy with the games library and the console overall, but not sure about paying to play online.

Very happy with it. I've had a Wii since launch day and pretty much played it every day up until i got my 360 about 6 months ago. Now that gets played every day. In the 6 months that ive had the 360 i have nearly 25 games, while the Wii, after having it for however long its been out, i have about 5 games.

I bought a under-warranty Red-ringed 360 with a 20GB HDD and a controller off my mate for $60. Sent it for repairs and got it back 2ish weeks later, never had a problem since. That was over a year ago.
I have a PS3 too but the 360 puts all it together better.

Edit: Ahh poop, that MyGamerTag thing isn't working properly :(

If you remove the *s, that will display and link my one. so you just need to put your own in there. And remove the *s, obviously. :)

If you just want the image and not the link it would be just this part: [*img]http://card.mygamercard.net/nxe/MattMcD1978.png[/img]

The only FPS games I had ever tried previously were the Metroid Prime games. Since getting my 360 just under a year ago now however, I've really seen what I've been missing out on. Bioshock, The Darkness, Fallout 3, The Orange Box, Call of Duty series; they've all been brilliant games and nothing like I had played previously. They've even inspired me to try out System Shock 2 and Half-life on my PC.

Not really.

Originally bought an Asian one for jrpgs, but besides Tales of Vesperia, I wasn't really impressed with the others. Add the fact that the ones which matter are being ported to the PS3 doesn't help whatsoever.

I'll hold onto it for the occasional shumup from Cave, but otherwise, it's as good as a doorstop for me. This year's TGS kinda confirmed the 360's fate in Japan, which means there is gonna be shit all exclusive Japanese stuff released for the console in the future.

Living in a cave with my fingers in my ears, while playing my Marios, my Zeldas and my Final Fantasies. I'm not really a 'hard-core' gamer and I just never really tried games like Doom or Goldeneye.

mine RROD for the first time this week i have had it for three years. they are in the process of repairing it for me. not having it really shows me how much i love it. i play it almost nightly and am missing it very much. i think the online component should be free. its the only thing that sony fanboys have to really goad us about, oh and the whole RROD thing.
