View Full Version : Are You Satisfied With Your PS3?
So as not to get labeled a "M$ loving $hithead" or a "Wii bashing ****tard", here's the PS3 version. I probably could have condensed these all into one poll, but whatever. You know the deal.

Yes. Extremely so.
I love the Cross Media Bar with everything laid out all tidy like, the PSN store is easy to use and browse (unlike the god awful mess of the 360 store) and has some truly innovative and unique gems in the downloadable space, the exclusives are more appealing to me then the 360 and the machine runs as quiet as a mouse.
Also Trophies are better then points :p
Slightly.
Blu Ray is sex. Needs more exclusives and a better online community. And less matte finishing.

Also, no.

I'm very satisfied with mine so far. Also a huge fan of the sleek tidiness the OS brings (although a little too many options imo), and there's more customisation to be had also. (if we're comparing it to the 360, although i'm very satisfied with both).
Although i'll say that for me, the PSN seems a little more cluttered than the XBL. I find it takes a little longer to find what you're looking for, and the whole purchase and download process could be seriously reduced a couple of steps. I do like how it shows the price in a $ figure though. Makes more sense than those stupid points.

Yes Im satisfied with my PS3. I prefer to buy games for the PS3 then the 360 even though I own both. I love the XMB and playstation store more then the cluster f*** that is the Xbox dashboard.

I'm really happy with mine so far! I can't compare it to the old "phat", but this new model is whisper quiet. Not quite as sophisticated looking as the old model, but not bad either. I like the XMB and all the available options and tweaks available are useful. i only bought my 360 mid last year, and didn't really need to get a PS3, but I'm glad I did. I chose the 360 over the PS3 last year because the majority of the multiplatform games ran/looked better on 360. But when there are fantastic exclusives on both consoles why not enjoy them all. So yeah, don't regret this latest purchase at all.

Poll has too many options and isn't public enough.
I'm pretty happy with my ps3. My bigger problem is finding time to play it.

I picked slightly because I do enjoy my PS3 but it's now ****ING BROKEN and apparently the internet tells me it could be a $315 repair cost which is BULLSHIT and Sony can **** THEMSELVES.

The firmware has been improving, Sony's listening a bit more. Game library is getting larger and we're getting a lot more games that we wouldn't usually get. Although, one or two have been held back (Some for all systems, see RB2).
My main gripe is the pricing on PSN, a game like shatter is the same price here and in the states, but something like MvC2 gets an extra $10 slapped on top. Also, the range of PS1 classics in the Euro region is absolute balls. I wish there was a global store.

Considering I got mine for free I'm going to say yes. However, if I had forked out even a dollar for it I would probably say no. LBP is still the only game that I have been enticed to play (although I did pick up Afrika a few weeks ago).
Blu-ray is pretty swell.

I am reminded of a certain regurgitator song when I hear you get things for free. I think it was about sucking alot of something ut not quite sure ; )

Yes. Pleasantly surprised, I originally just got it for MGS4 but there's been a steady flow of quality titles that I've just loved (Ratchet and Clank, Valkyira Chronicles and Uncharted come to mind) and when there's a drought, it functions great as a blu-ray player.
All in all I feel like I'm getting quite a lot of value out of it, and I use it at least a few times a week.

Very
Out of the 3 systems, I use the PS3 95% of the time due to:
My preference of the DS3 controller
Free Online
XMB interface
Blu Ray
Region free, since I import a lot.

Eh. I'm impressed when there's something worthwhile playing, but that doesn't actually happen all too often.

Yep, love it to bits.
It's got its own little collection of exclusives coming out, the XMB is easy to use, using whatever brand hard drives and headsets you want is a big bonus. The PSN Store needs to offer demos of everything it has though otherwise I won't bother taking the plunge if I can't try before I buy.
I'm not completely sold on Blu Ray but I like what films I have (but don't really see the point in older films being released on Blu Ray - they weren't filmed in high definition so there's only so much cleaning up you can do with the picture quality) but also like it for the DVD upscaling.
If it didn't come free with the TV then I probably wouldn't have bought one until the slim was released though.

ummmm
Movies are developed on film, film allows for a much higher resolution then 1080p. In case you didn't know for example, Warner have remastered some of their old classics at a resolution of 4000.

Only really worth it though if the original print is on fine grain stock, which in the case of a fair few late 60s, 70s films, it wasn't.
It wasn't until advancements in film stock in the early 80s, were they able to shoot in low light settings (ie outdoors, as opposed to studios), and not suffer terrible grain.

There is nothing wrong with grain. What is wrong is having a grainy film get digitally smoothed to erase the grain.

Didn't say there was anything wrong with it, all I'm saying is theres very little point in going HD on a film that's on a grainy original print.
Take Total Recall. The original theatrical release was noted for being rather grainy, due to their choice in film stock. I have it on HD DVD, and it was very noticeable. So you really don't gain much additional clarity with a higher resolution, due to the image noise.

In case you didn't know for example, Warner have remastered some of their old classics at a resolution of 4000.Actually, a prior study into 35mm film 'resolution' found that the release prints of older films, on average, have an equivalent of between 750 and 1000 lines of resolution. Unless a movie has been shot with more modern 35mm equipment, or in HD video, chances are that 1080p clarity can't quite be achieved. It's very complicated.
It's going to be fun when the next format comes out, with many thousands of lines of resolution, which will not only be pointless, but will also mean that Blu-Ray will look awful on the next generation of displays.
EDIT: Yes, it's also pointless taking an old movie, blowing it up to 1080p resolution, noticing all the grain, and then smoothing it out. I can't see the point.

I've been reasonably satisfied with my PS3. It's a great Blu-ray player and the exclusives are good fun. Home still feels pretty superfluous and I'm not a huge fan of the SIXAXIS/DualShock 3 but otherwise I feel I've gotten my money's worth from it.
Reasonably. A couple of the PSN exclusives have been superb - Flower, Super Stardust Wipeout HD - as have a small number of the exclusive retail titles - Uncharted and...um...Uncharted. Singstar gets a solid workout at my place thanks mainly to my housemates as well. It's probably the console I use the least out of the three, but I'd still say I'm happy with it, and it probably has the most potential upside of the three. The controller is awful, however (and Creedy before you point out that it is essentially the same as previous DualShock controllers, I am aware of that. It has always been awful).

I'm very satisfied, including psn games I own more games on my ps3 then I have ever owned on a single console before and I haven't even had it for a year. I would complain about the crappy Euro store (and I have in the past), but it doesn't concern me now that I have methods for purchasing items from the US store.
Once we have Heavy Rain, GT5, Modnation racers and The Last Guardian in our hands I'm pretty much ready to crown it as my favourite console yet.

I actually don't mind the Dual Shock.
The 360 has the most comfy controller ever but the DS3's dpad placement makes it easier for games that require the dpad, yet having the analogue sticks in the center isn't as awkward as when the dpad is in that position.
People complain that the triggers should be curved upwards but it's not a big deal, unless you're lubing up your fingers with butter before you play I don't see how your fingers can slip off, there's plenty of grip.

Yes.
Bought it to play MGS4 originally, but then I got into the awesomeness of Siren, Uncharted, Valkyria Chronciles, RE5, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, Batman, InFamous and oh yeah Valkyria Chronciles.
And there's lots more greatness to come :)
And finally, I've been able to use it to play BluRay movies! :D

I have had mine since launch day 1 and have been happy ever since. The only niggling annoyance is the installs onto HD as 60gig fills up pretty quickly with an exstensive collection like mine.

Reasonably.
There are definitely some superb games on the system that i love(valkyria chronicles, uncharted etc). But if it's a multi platform title i'll always choose the 360, because i have far more friends on it. For instance if i'm playing batman on my 360, i can quickly check and see if anyone's playing multi and then dive in. On my PS3 i wouldn't have that option (because i have almost no PS friends).
I love the Blu Ray player as well. Not that it gets heaps of use but it's great to have that option when i'm at the video store.
Edit: wish i'd picked mega drive
