View Full Version : Quite simply, where are all the PC gamers on Hyper?

This page seems to be the most under-used on Hyper forams so I guess it's safe to assume the majority of you are console gamers.

So who are the PC gamers here?

And why aren't you posting?

I'm a PC gamer but don't look at me for new thread ideas.

edit: @ Azza below - I am a one-percenter.

Most games these days are cross platform and so they get put into general gaming. That and 99% of pc gamers play WoW anyway...

I still play alot of pc games, but the majority of my time is now spent playing them online. Also i think this forum isnt used much due to the pc always being shoved aside because PC's have been around long since the super nintendo's lifespan was over.

Yeah... what? What are "they"; PC gamers or PC's themselves?

Clarification needed. Plus could you explain your point a bit; I can't see where you are going with it.

sweet jesus, that made f*** all sense.

I still game on the PC, but mainly racing sims and point & click adventures. Two genres which have fallen by the wayside over the last decade. My PC is about 7-8 years old though, so once I upgrade (still running with AGP >_>) I might have the juice to run some of the newer releases.

As mentioned, 98% of the PC action here is within WoW, and you'll get the occasional spurt of activity with popular relases (Team Fortress 2).

I do a lot of gaming on the PC, but I very rarely buy new games: always wait for the budget releases.

OpFlash2 will be this year's exception

Same with Lazlow, computer is ancient/laptop isn't really gaming suited, so I really only play the older games on PC.

I play a fair amount of PC games. Mostly multiplayer on weekends, or cheap indie/budget games. I do like to play my FPS on PC, but there hasn't been an interesting shooter since Crysis Warhead. I did start playing Champions Online recently, so I'll be playing that a fair bit.

If there isn't activity in PC Gaming, you MAKE activity in PC Gaming.

Also, console controllers are horrible devices, Keyboard and mouse is the surperior input system.
I'm a mad PC gamer, I don't own any of the current gen consoles.

In the poorly named Creedy Fan Club.

Actually, I think we're the most active gaming group on these forums.

I game almost exclusively on the PC so I find the discussion on PCPP more relevant. Their Games Discussion forum seems to be more active than our General Gaming. :/
Personally, I find that their games forum is rather mixed (you can find some really good discussions as well as some really awful ones) mostly due to their larger user base. Interestingly though, the WOW thread is pretty active, way more than PCPP.

Most of the PC gamers here are mostly playing games rather than contributing to this part of the forums. The Steam group shows that usually there's someone playing a game of some sort (mostly TF2). Too bad I can't join the Creedy Fan club since I don't have a mike. >_>

Plantronics sell an awesome headset (headphones & mike) for, like, $30. I found mine at Harvey Norman

Far more active than any group Aran is involved in.

You can also use a 360 headset if you happen to have a wired controller - just plug the controller into the PC, then headset into the controller. I used to do this before I bought my gaming headset.

"Laywer ****ed me."

Anyway, I wish I could say I kept my Windows systems in orderly enough condition for PC gaming. >_>
The real issue is that I don't actually have a desktop to call my own, anymore, and my laptop's CPU tends to blow chunks when allowed to run at full capacity - at first notably during summer, but microchips degrade under stress, apparently. The legacy family desktop's CPU is actually underclocked for this very reason.

I also tend to hate installing* several gig of %ProgramFiles% data, especially at the rate that I go through Windows partitions. It'd be nice if PC developers slid a little toward the centre of the install/plug'n'play scale - maybe by making continual use of those discs they make us carry around, and/or providing systems to cache install-indiscriminate data elsewhere, so that data can be kept on another partition and not require a full reinstall when I reinstall Windows.

*anything really. >_>

I occasionally play PC games, the latest stuff still runs with the specs turned down to 'console' quality.

But I prefer gaming on the couch in front of a big TV, not at a desk with a reasonably sized monitor. While I could hook the PC up to the TV it's not really practical because I also use it for work purposes.

So in conclusion, someone buy me a new kickass gaming PC to plug into the TV

I've always been amused by the size of the WoW thread on the respective forums too.

My personal theory is that PCPP forumers have PCs that are not limited to just WoW and as such more freely move between MMOs (have a look at how popular the Champions Online thread is currently). The Hyper PC folk that post in here, I think it is safe to say, are running more aged hardware than your average PCPP gamer (just as you are more likely to find console owners at Hyper than you are at PCPP) and as such WoW represents one of the few pieces of software with continued support that doesn't pose any form of stress for your PC.

Ha! It's Lordage... wondered where you had disappeared to. Not exactly surprised to learn it was CS. :P

I've played Age of Conan, Warhammer Online and recently the Aion beta. I just keep going back to WoW because its already so well established and i know people who play. If i remember correctly the majority of really active WoW players from here actually have pretty decent systems. I know for a fact mine and silvers can play pretty well anything out at the moment, i'm pretty sure theiffy only got her pc this year. In other words I dont think its so much a restriction on what our computers can handle but more the fact that this forum has had a presence in the game for so long it's just the easiest choice if you don't want to play alone.

I think that definitely has a role to play but I remember when I was doing the WoW rounds with the crew here only a handful had computers that were capable of playing more and I always felt that had a role to play.

Evidently that isn't the case now. :P

The last game I played on my PC would be Duke Nukem 3D over a decade ago. Blatantly I don't use my laptop for gaming, but I'm thinking of starting. Seeing as I've just confirmed that The Witcher: Enhanced Edition would work on here, that'll be the one I go with first. :D
