View Full Version : How do you game on your PC?

As the title suggests. Do you only use the PC for work/web/media/whatever, occasionally busting out minesweeper or solitaire? Are you a WoW junkie with a 5 year old graphics card? This thread was sparked by the discussion in the satisfaction megathread that my less than clear statements of my views seems to have caused and a desire for more action in the PC forum. I thought it would be interesting to get the console gamer's, the, dare I say it, more mainstream view of PC gaming, via a scientifically valid poll.
Let's have it!

I only play old games because my computer isn't very powerful.

Where's the "I play niche titles on my PC" option?

WoW isn't a niche title.

If it's something like Gay Trucker Adventures: The Studded Servo, put it under option 2. If it's more like Truckin to Mardi Gras 99, then old games.

I very rarely play games on my PC. I think I lost interest in PC gaming very quickly when I was spending half my time ****ing around just to get games working.
Also limited game installs and online registration ****s me off.

Needs a "I play Valve games, Blizzard games and the occasional other FPS on my PC" option.

I chose:
-If it runs under Windows, I have it installed and set to max!
-I'll have a bash at Peggle or a flash game, but not much else.
-I only play old games because my computer isn't very powerful.
Except you can remove the retarded parts of the last two options.

Except Peggle, flash games, and old games all run under Windows, thus the last two you chose are rendered redundant by your choice of the first. The choices aren't stating that everyone who plays old games or flash games doesn't play newer titles, or vice versa.
Needs a "I play Valve games, Blizzard games and the occasional other FPS on my PC" option.

If it's on Steam I'm pretty much guarenteed to buy it.
Does anyone know a good way of getting a PS3 DS3 working on PC with fully working analogue face buttons?

Ditto, surprisingly.

I pretty much only just play games on my PC so I'll usually play what I can get my hands on. Being a cheapo, I never purchase full price games (bar Orange Box) so I'll purchase a budget game every couple of months. Since I purchased my PC a year and a half ago, it's become a bit average now so I can't run everything I see at max. So basically I play moderately new games.
However, before I got this PC, I had a shitbox that was already outdated before my dad handed it down to me. As a result, I had to be incredibly selective with my purchases. But it was easy on the wallet too so as a result, I had amassed a modest collection of oldish games. Being the lazy (busy) person I am, I've barely finished any of them so there's always something for me to go back to.
Since I was cheap, I would download a heap of freeware games as well. I used to keep up to date with all the new freeware titles when I had my old PC but nowdays I just dabble in whenever I feel bored. As a result, I've played a few niche/obscure titles.
The only MMO I've player was Trickster and that was a bit of a grindfest. I don't play many because I have a relatively small internet cap. I LAN sometimes with my sister or if my friend hosts a party. I play the latest demos and TF2 due to iiNet's freezone.
Currently I play a bit of TF2 and HL2 SMod due to their instant gratification nature but when the holidays come around, I probably get a new game or play one from my pre-existing games.

$2500? Wow, you either got a top of the line system or got massively ripped off.
You spent $2500 on a PC to "mostly play emulators"?

Yeah I only use my laptop for uni work and WoW. I mean it's decent enough and runs CoD4 and the like, just I since I stopped playing pro CS my interest in PC gaming kind of died.

Yes, but how many of them are also covered with Jell-O?
If it's on Windows I've most likely got it installed and set on max; maybe just a notch lower... Not that I have much time to play anything really.
I love PC games, even though I also own a DSi, 360, PS3 and Wii [had an awesome PSP but it got stolen on Monday].

If it's a ps2 emulator you'd need it.
Of course you could buy 12 ps2's instead.

Built a PC last week, have installed crysis. Will give that a crack.
If I enjoy that I will buy some other games or just play the 360

I didn't really like Crysis at first, but now I find it (or at least Crysis: Warhead) good fun to mess around in for an hour or so. Its so pretty.

Saying Crysis is "pretty" is akin to calling Uluru "a rock".
It is, but it's also the biggest and most spectacular looking rock you've ever had the pleasure of treating your corneas with
