Wow...A Boy and his Blob.

That takes me back to the NES days...

Looks pretty cool! I had no idea the IP was being dug up. Been a long time.

AH where would Nintendo general be without a Kotche post to make sure people know the wii is terrible in every way. Don't think he even posts in any other game forum on this site.

As for the game it looks interesting but without the nostalgia factor I think ill have to wait for a low price point before I look into buying it.

Until Jubei's comment, I was loathe to watch the vid. How wrong was I!

As long as it doesn't use the pointer, and very little (no) motion control...this looks like it could be great.

Is this coming to PSN/XBLA/Steam?

Manny M
24-09-2009, 12:04 AM
Here's hoping!

That looks fantastic. Much better than I would've thought and just the art direction it should've been.

If this is Wii only, here's hoping they don't **** it up for you lot by making it waggleriffic.

Has the answer ever been yes when this question is asked? Honestly not trying to troll or anything but I see people asking these questions all the time and its never been yes from what I can tell.

Megaman 9?

Never a full Wii release in disc format was it? Wiiware games tend to migrate over but ive never seen full disc releases hit XBLA/PSN yet. Probably happen eventually though.

This game is NOT wiiware.
It is coming out on the 12th of November, and it is not a short game it will take you aaages to get through it, there is also not gimmicky waggle in it at all.

Yeah I think it originally was, but because of the wide-scale anticipation for the game they probably thought they'd be able to cash in on an actual physical release much more.

1UP's review (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3176452) of this makes me happy inside and I will definitely be picking this up on release!

This line in particular sells the game to me! ~ "And it ends on a definite high note, with an insanely satisfying two-level epilogue." I hate how many games these days - no matter how good they may be - have a dodgy end quarter or final boss. I'm really glad to see that written about this game.

Someone who knows those games have a completely different audience. It was originally going to be the same day as Mario. Anyway, who cares. It's the end of the year, great games are coming out every single week.

Also, A Boy and His Blob will sell precisely 180 copies in Australia. So it really doesn't matter.

McChimp
20-11-2009, 12:15 PM
I can understand why it'd probably only sell 180 copies. My local JB had maybe 3 copies?

Count me as one of the 'few' who bout it, though. Picked it up for $47.99.

Or are you pointing out that most gamers aren't interested in actual 'games' on the Wii?

McChimp
20-11-2009, 05:28 PM
The latter is pretty much becoming a 'well-known fact'. Sad, really, as it's one of those brilliant games that deserves much, much more consumer attention.

Super Sleuth

We are the minority. The general renter/buyer will not touch it.

Also, I have 5 copies of Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics, 3 Cricket Wii, 7 New Super Mario Bros, 2 NFS Nitro, 2 COD Modern Warfare Reflex, 2 Rabbids Go Home plus others that are all recent releases. The general renter will take one of them ahead of A Boy and his Blob every time. Unfortunate but true.

Yeah, it's shit. I've rang around here and the nearest 'big' town and nobody has it in stock. One JB I rang said they had three on order, but none in stock. The rest of the replies were a mixture of 'no we don't have it' and 'we've never heard of the game'.

Looks like I'll have to buy it online.

I picked up a copy at my local Gametraders today for fifty dorrar. I won't get to play it until I get a new telly, but still: it's there for when I do. I am looking forward to the touching tale of a boy discovering the joys of masturbation.

Yeah, it REALLY depressing. The amount of sheer CRAP people (particularly parents) buy from my GAME store over some much, much better quality stuff makes me want to cry.......or kick their a$$es. Maybe we should hire people to stand-by the Wii section with a leather belt in-hand and beat people if they grab the crap stuff. That'd teach 'em!

Gutsman Heavy

I love the game but am dissapointed by some of the changes, I liked the rhyming system used for the jelly beans, and the more "open ended" level styles of the other games.

I've just got to say: in this era of blood, guts and violence, a HUG BUTTON is uber-HARDCORE!! lol. That alone make it better than sooooooooo many other games!

Vindik8or
01-12-2009, 11:38 AM
Instead of blood and guts and violence it has semen and masturbation allegory. Ask yourself: what is he truly hugging?

McChimp
01-12-2009, 11:45 AM
................

.........a blob of white goo........?

Okay, I see what you mean. Young boy has a strong affection towards his blob of white goo. That makes it even MORE HARDCORE!!

But he throws it jellybeans to make it morph into different usable objects.......what are the connotations there, hmmm? lol. Are we talking about a boy who loves to masturbate AND use the end-result for craft, or other such things?

Vindik8or
01-12-2009, 11:48 AM
Well, one of those objects is a cream cannon, but more generally I think that the game is an allegory for a pre-teen boy discovering masturbation. You don't look for confirmation of that in the minutiae (ie. what does throwing it jellybeans (foetuses) to change its shape represent?) but rather the broader direction of whole piece and the way the themes and subject matter tie together.

McChimp
01-12-2009, 11:52 AM
Ahhhhhhhh. Puts a new perspective on the whole experience then.

...........the game, not masturbation, that is.

Seriously, you should run-through a list of Wii-shovelware and find the elements in them that allude to anything sexual in nature. Maybe we could get a blanket-ban on party-games due to their attempts to influence children into 'sharing experiences' with other people (eg. orgies).

I recently read on the A Boy And His Blob TypePad Blog, that people are becoming depressed because of the game. People are realizing that the dream can't actually come true. I was trying to start a thread where people gave ideas on how to cope with it, as in playing ABAHB stuff, Writing ( about ABAHB of course), painting, or whatever. Just give me some ideas and I'll try and help them out. Maybe people reading might even get some good ideas that'll help.
