Hey guys, Clockwork has had a whole lot of stuff nicked from his his house, including his xbox. Just letting you know if you see him online, it won't be him, so don't message him or invite him to games or anything.

What if I message him telling him that I left the money I owed him in his letterbox and to pick it up when he gets back in 2 weeks?

Then we stake out his place.

I'm posting from a mate's PC. My PC is still here but im waiting for it to get fingerprinted. Flat has been ransacked, both TVs and Xboxes are gone, my gamecube and all the games are gone, my irreplaceable car is gone, and my Optimus Prime toy (which I got for christmas when I was 5) is gone. Got contents insurance, but the main things (Car and Optimus Prime) I'm never getting back. Car is probably on its way to a chop shop or is burned out on the side of the road, and the toy, well who knows.

Pretty gutted right now, I can't make my bed because my room is trashed and we're waiting on the cops to show so I'm sleeping on an unmade bed in my sleeping bag. Really upset, but I'll survive. Once I get the Xbox serial I can get it blocked from Live, in the meantime I'd like to know if it's been showing up.

Looking forward to getting back to gaming, not looking forward to re-playing Forza 2 and Halo :(

This is a long shot, but perhaps the police would be able to talk with Microsoft and get the IP address of the thief if your console connects, and thus their location?

My mate got robbed once and lived about 3 stories up. It's extremely suspect when stuff like this happens. It's like you only have a few neighbors and surely you all look familiar. They should notice someone not you carrying your stuff out.

Cops are coming this morning, I'll get on my PC once they've fingerprinted it and send serials etc. Will also post up some photos of the flat, post robbery.

Insurance will pay out for the TV, Xbox, PC monitor and games - I took photos of all my gear pretty recently for insurance purposes so that can be replaced. The car gets paid out at market value, the mechanic reckoned $8000-$9000 for a regular GT-Four, but $12-$15k for a WRC model. Sky's the limit really, as they're so rare.

Turns out my Star Wars DVDs got taken - the special editions of Eps. 4/5/6 that include the original "Han shoots first" versions. They also took our conditioner and toothpaste from the bathroom. Police are looking for some clean Maoris - shouldn't be too hard to find them.

I'm taking it as well as I can but it's taken its toll, I haven't really slept well and it's made me real paranoid about the rest of my stuff. I keep expecting to see my car out on the street and it sucks :(

Stuff that wasn't stolen includes my $300 Sennheiser headphones, My PC including a G9 mouse and G15v2 keyboard, my Logitech PC speakers (Monitor is gone though), the flat's AC/DC tickets (which were in my room) and tickets to Airbourne and The Living End next month.

We found out today how they got into the garage without a garage key and without forcing the door - remember the GTA IV collectors edition? The key for that safe deposit box was with my car keys, and it fits the garage perfectly. The game really does encourage people to steal cars :p

Holee crap, that's crazy. Bad luck dude, I know how much it sucks to get your stuff swiped. I'd be careful in the next few months as well, I was told that most thieves will come back in a month or two to see if they can clean up on the insurance replacements too.

More updates: I've made a list of everything that was stolen - it's four pages long. Granted, 2 of those pages are just games but still, it's pretty big. Because the thieves wore gloves, the police have nothing to go on. All I can do now is hope that stuff turns up.

The mechanic is going to write up something for the insurance company just stating that he's done a lot of work on the car, it's in good condition and roughly valued at $X (hopefully the $13k I told him I'd be asking for).

All the claim forms will be completed this evening and sent off, then I've just gotta wait for it all to be processed. It's full replacement insurance, so I'll get exactly what I lost, or near enough to it (which will mean Xbox Classics versions of all my games, I'd imagine :(). I'm unsure what'll happen with regards to my Gamecube collection, as you can't buy the consoles anymore and some of the games were quite valuable - Twilight Princess, Wind Waker Collector's Edition, PAL Ikaruga, Killer7, RE4 Collector's Edition, Viewtiful Joe and Eternal Darkness all fetch high prices second hand. Hopefully I'll get a decent cash settlement, I'll just put it towards a new car.

As for the garage, well, the landlord is changing the locks so hopefully nobody else can break in using a crappy budget key. I've also written up an email for Kotaku including a photo of the lockbox with both keys, will be interesting if it gets published. If anyone else wants to spread the word I'd be grateful, it'd be interesting to see a response.

I'd consider it to be different. Can't go clinging to the past... I need to learn better throttle control, 4WD made me lazy when I can just floor it in any gear and fly round corners.

If I get an S4 I'm more likely to try my hand at rebuilding the 13B rather than working it. I like rotaries but I hate the over-the-top DUB-DUB-DUB BRAAAAAAAP of the ported ones.

I've kept looking for replacements online while I'm waiting on the insurance company to sort the claim, I saw a gorgeous Type-R EK Civic last night that I'll definitely give a test drive. 300ZXs seem a bit scarce (at least, the short wheelbase manual Twin Turbo ones do) but I'll keep looking cos I wouldn't mind one. I also found a Fiat Uno Turbo for $4500 that apparently beats Evos in a straight line. Madness.

All my claims have been sorted and sent, it took me about a week to finalise the list of stolen property. I wasn't sure what to put as the final value of the Celica, so in the end I went for 14k. The insurer gets market value prices from dealerships so hopefully my final price will be at the higher end of the scale.

Clocky, if this is any help, this is what it says on my friends list...

You were last online on the 24th (in the US, so the 25th in AU/NZ), and you were seen on Xbox.com; I guess that was probably you checking your account to see what they'd been upto.

Your most recently played games are Hexic, Castle Crashers and Lode Runner, in that order.

Something to consider: is it possible to IP track the 360 if it logs in, and get a physical location? Seems like MS would probably record that data and it could be tracked back to someone's house.

My house was broken into a couple of years back and they stole my entire gaming collection and the insurance company sent round an inspecter to question the fact that I had over 200 games in my collection but after I stood my ground I recieved everything I quoted as lost but yes the originals were replaced by platinums etc. The other thing that gets you that I didnt think of was all my SAVED games. There has to be emotional value to that time wasted. I did well out of it but I still find that I am finding stuff that was stolen that I hadnt noticed at the time. (non gaming) I got in contact with a representative at the wholesaler that my insurance company was using to replace my games etc and after getting along with her she was flexable with what I wanted as to them they just get a cheque for a certain amount so I was getting new titles for old ones, I recommend finding out who they are using and getting on the phone it cant hurt you.

The logging into Xbox Live.com was me, and all the previously played games were me as well (Hexic was my flatmate though) I asked them about IP tracking but couldn't get a straight answer, partly because the operator didn't speak english as a first language, partly because she only had a vague idea what I was on about and partly because I think it's against their privacy policy to give that information out anyway.

They did manage to disable my account however (after a long time spent on hold), and I've been given a key to unlock it once I get a new Xbox so I can recover my gamertag to the new console.

Thanks, it's nice to have some people who sympathise.
I doubt Kotaku would bother to run a story on the key issue, so I won't worry about writing up a letter of any kind.
Still waiting to hear from the insurance company, I had a visit from the assessor last week but aside from checking the point of entry and getting me to sign a release for the police report she didn't do much. She asked for photos of the goods, receipts etc as well as photos of the car and service records, and I had to point out that I'd already emailed everything I could to the insurance company. I was a bit annoyed at how poorly prepared she seemed, she just had a quick look around, asked some basic questions and repeated most of the questions that were on the form I'd already filled out.

I visited a car yard on the weekend that specialises in modified imports - they're sort of the Alienware of used Japanese cars - overpriced, but ridiculously fast (good looking is a matter of taste). They said they'd have a look at the info I've got on my car and give a quote if Insurance tries to screw me.
I'm a bit worried about the Gamecube games too - no doubt they come under a heading like "last-gen console games" and are valued at $20 each. I can argue values but I really don't know what they'll accept at the end of the day. Then there's the camera, a Powershot A630 which doesn't really have a modern equivalent and will most likely be replaced by something like the A2000IS, which isn't nearly as good.

In any case, they should contact me on Wednesday/Thursday, so hopefully I'll have a better idea by the end of the week.

OK so I need your guys help (please!)
See, the insurance company has valued my Gamecube games at $20 apiece, which is frankly unacceptable. I'm trying to find secondhand copies online but haven't had luck with a few games. If folks could search ebay.com.au and post up links to the "boxed with manual" ones with decent prices I'd be very grateful. None of them are Player's Choice versions and all were in excellent condition. I'll send the insurance company all the links tomorrow, along with a picture of a big middle finger.

I'd do it myself but we're over our cap and my internet is slow as hell.

Looking at some of the games in that list I'm wondering if perhaps I was the culprit without knowing. I mean I would totally steal some of those. :P

Yeah, it took me a lot of hunting to find some of those games. I hadn't even finished Eternal Darkness and I'd barely started Viewtiful Joe and P.N.03 :(

Thanks for the link guys!
I've sent your links to the insurance company with an estimated average of $70 per Gamecube game, which beats their $20 considerably. I also got prices for my Xbox games from EB, bringing them up to an average of $72 apiece rather than $50.

They've agreed to replace everything else with purchase orders, I've asked them to change a couple of stores (they were gonna send me to some no-name electronics store to get my monitor, I told them no way) and I should hear back either this afternoon or Monday with a finalised deal.

All going well, I should be back up and on Xbox Live in time for the Brutal Legend launch.

They'll squeeze for whatever they can won't they.

Bastards.

They've allowed the monitor and my external HDD to be purchased through a proper retailer, which is a win.

To be fair, they've been very helpful and accommodating, they're letting me upgrade my TV at a discounted price so it'll only cost $100 or so to get a Series 5 Samsung instead of the Series 4 they were going to give me. 1080p 32", woo.

* With regards to the Game Cube games and Xbox games, the figures you have provided are outside your Insurers guidelines for settlement and we will therefore need to seek their further instruction regarding this. We will advise you of their decision shortly.

* As the Game Cube, memory cards, controllers and receivers have now been discontinued, you may wish to use the last known values of these items to purchase other goods through Noel Leeming (ie., letter of credit).
Hopefully they pay out the $70 per game I'm asking for, seeing as those are the current retail/second hand replacement prices. Sounds like it just needs to be authorised.
As for the Gamecube etc, I'm guessing that means I can use the prices they've set in the replacement schedule ($200 for the console, $150 for 3 memory cards, $70 apiece for wired controllers and $110 apiece for Wavebird receivers) to buy myself something else. I might take the $500 they're paying out for my camera, add the Gamecube money and buy an SLR.

One last thing I need Hyper's help with:

We would suggest you look on the internet for a NZ collectable toy company who could perhaps provide you with an equivalent replacement quote for the Optimus Prime toy or give you an approximate cost of what the original one would have been worth.
Basically, they've said it's worth AU$70 and I've said it's worth more. If anyone can find an original 80s/early 90s Optimus Prime for sale in good condition (NOT the "G1 Encore" model which the insurance company based their pricing on), then that should be sufficient for them to pay out a reasonable amount.

I don't recall ever saying I'd cheated the insurance company, I've been honest with them the whole time which makes it pretty goddamn upsetting when they come back with ridiculously low quotes for my stuff.
Move or lock the thread whenever you want, it was originally just a notice that I was no longer in possession of my XBLA account, but that's all been sorted now. It's just been a nice spot for me to vent as I've had a very stressful time over the last 3 weeks, constantly hunting down prices, quotes and receipts for the stuff I had stolen. Now that it's getting towards the end of it I've just received notice that my car was apparently worth f*** all and I'm naturally very upset right now, as I've got to do even more quote hunting which will extend the claims process by 2 weeks or more.

Meanwhile, I've had to live in a goddamn empty house for the past 3 weeks, taking the bus to work every day and bludging rides off my flatmates and friends to get places. If it rains on the weekend I need a lift to and from the laundromat just so I've got dry clothes on Monday. It f***ing sucks.

Definitely not cool mane :(

The insurance fraud thing was just a little joke really and more of a reference to the insurance company defrauding you by only offering $8k for the GT-Four.

Locking thread. Clocky, PM me if you need it re-opened.
