New show on ABC, it aired last night at 9.00. Website is http://hungrybeast.abc.net.au/ where you can watch the full episode. Combines journalism and humour. Opinions? I thought it was pretty meh, we'll see if it picks up next week. The pilots never are the best.

Warning: site contains swearz.

I had drinks with some of them a few weeks ago and they were pretty cool (obligatory name dropping).

I thought it was kind of average though, the skits were particularly terrible. It reminded me too much of Triple J TV, especially in its production values. I don't know how they are going to keep the war widow segment interesting each week, I can't really see much you can do with it.

Their were some interesting and funny parts of the show though and I liked the random facts presented. I'll keep watching, only because some of the future content they told me about sounded pretty funny.

Was all over the place. Deadly serious during the war widow thing (the hell was the point of that), next minute talking about how pandas should be left to die out because of their tiny dicks. I'm not really impressed...

From the ads I thought it would be a series where every episode was unique, produced by different people, exploring a new unusual or overlooked topic each ep. Unfortunately this was not the case. Hopefully it will gain some consistency and become either insightful or humorous, instead of failing at being both.

Show was ok. Didn't like the faux indie style

Of course, the real point was to get Media Watch to cross-promote Hungry Beast, which they succeeded in doing.

Andrew Denton is a really, really smart man. He's probably the most media-savvy person in the country. It'll be interesting to see how much of his media-terrorism skills come through in Hungrybeast.

I think they missed the mark a little in the first episode. There was some pretty good stuff, but there was also some pretty jarring mood whiplash (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MoodWhiplash), especially given that the show followed Spicks And Specks.

I think this is the kind of show that would have worked better on ABC2, probably as part of that channel's Monday night line-up. Putting it in the Gruen/Chaser timeslot is a pretty bold move.

One of my friends got filmed a few weeks ago when he got asked about the war on terrorism. I forget what he said, but knowing him (think Argentine film buff, interested in socialism and has Nietzsche in his email address) it was quirky. A bit disappointed to see it didn't make the final cut.

I love the thrashing this show took from ACA or TT about a sketch.

"And just when we thought the Chaser targeting dying children was the lowest the ABC would sink..."

It's the only one I've seen (not saying much because I don't really follow tv closely), and it was a great show

I really despised Hungry Beast.

The program felt so arrogent and ultimately dumb, if I could liken it too anything it would be Bono.

The War Widows story was horrific, the fake sympathy and furrowed brows of the two girls presenting the story was infuriating.

As was the brief history of the Iraq war, why bother even trying to tell the story of such a complex and controversial war in 30 seconds? If you are going to try you better do more than repeating 9/11 footage that everyones already seen a hundred times.

Then with all seriousness they state six Australians killed, not even a mention of American, English or the probably hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed.

It offered nothing we didn't already know and just seemed to parade two womens grief around in effort to be taken "cereal."

It's upsetting because it does nothing but confirm what Gen Y is so often criticised for and thats liking to play political but not bothering to do anymore research than listening to a Green Day song.

I saw a couple of bleeding-heart uni chicks talking about Afghanistan ... what the hell is this show's purpose?

Apparently, to "tell us something we don't know". I guess if we didn't know that giving 19 untalented tosspots the opportunity to make a TV show with public money was a bad idea, we do now.

This is without question the worst show on tv at the moment.

1. The Pigeon sketch. The poorly done Top Gear take off was okay, but trying to recreate a stunt someone else did just a few months ago: weak.

2. The James Hardie story. Instead of taking off something a few months old, they run a story that's been constantly in the media for the last 20 years and cap it off with a chaser style stunt from half a d decade ago (http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/02/22/1045638540826.html).

3. The Robot Wars: WTF is this hippie crap? I'd say points for originality except I've heard that the whole "watch out for the robots taking over the earth" thing has happened before.

4. The constant use of Kinetic Typography. If I wanted subtitles I'd turn the teletext on.

Epic fail on Hungry Beast: They're tackling the serious issue of tween magazines and they read out a blurb about one of them and read it as "Magazine focuses on entertainment, celebrity gossip, fashion and beauty advice".

And it's like oh no, they're trying to sexualise kids.

But they have the actual text up in front highlighting the words as they read them and the actual text says "Magazine focuses on entertainment, celebrity gossip, fashion and beauty, advice, exercise and fun".

(Or something to that effect). Amazing what difference a comma makes.

Watched it for the first time last night. ****ing awful viewing. I feel soiled.

Please cancel this show, ABC.

P.S. Is this show sponsored by the Socialist Alliance? I'm left wing, but **** that was terrible.

If that's socialist then I'm a commie.

(Note: I AM far left but not THAT far left. If communism is the limit for leftness.)

if any of you have been following the junglist drama then you will have read my post about being asked a couple of questions by hungry beast.

Funny thing is that the girl who was a 'member of the public' (mullet girl in a blue wife beater) commenting on how old the 5 yr old they put in a dress and make up was the same girl who asked me to answer some questions for the show...

so they are attempting to push their employees 'opinions' on us as unbias commentary?

wont be watching this again.

shes on screen at 26:24 if anyone is interested.
