Let's have a thread for indie games on PC!

Game: Run Man: Race Around the World
URL: http://whatareyouwait.info/
Genre: Platformer
This is the happiest game I've ever played. It's fast, easy to play and has a fun 1920's ragtime soundtrack. After playing this for 5 minutes, I felt really happy, haven't felt that with a game in a long time.

^I like how if you fall off a platform into a bottomless pit there's no game over or try again screen, you can just keep on playing.

Im always a huge fan of Tom Sennetts work, Runman Monster Fracas is definatly one of his gems for sure. It's a pick up and play kind of game, but that doesnt mean you cant enjoy it.

It's a fan made game, so I don't see how it's not.

I'm a big fan of indie games, and they're probably the games I play most these days.
Some good ones to look out for:
Eschalon Pretty good 'old-school' RPG. Reminds me a lot of the Ultima games.
Iron Realms MUDs Really in-depth MUDs. Probably the most detailed and player-driven MMO experience available. Achaea is their flagship but not what it used to be.
Cave Story Incredibly fun Japanese indie platformer that has a lot of cool touches and twists.
Avernum Series Another RPG series, haven't played these much myself but they're held in high regard.
Dwarf Fortress Pretty famous innovative strategy game.
Chzo Mythos Ben 'Yahtzee' Croshaw's series of indie adventure games.
Fan game != Indie game
Oh man, don't tell me that "indie games" have become like "indie music", where being independant has nothing to do with it.
politically correct indie music sucks

What is an Indie game, JubeiSatome?
Definitely not something full of stolen intellectual properties.

So it is like Lex described.
Well that's disappointing, I guess.

Definitely not something full of stolen intellectual properties.
This is silly.
At a very loose definition, a game is independent if it is developed by a developer outside of the major studios. Whether or not it infringes on any IP rights is clearly irrelevant.

Definitely not something full of stolen intellectual properties.
Half of the indie scene is about stolen intellectual properties. :P
It's more about giving tribute to the games we love. See the TIG comp they had about two years back which involved creating demakes of popular games. I remember Gang Garrison 2 getting a props up from Valve. But then again, all of these games are freeware. No one would be in the right mind to attempt to make a profit from them because that's not the point. Hell, the RPG Maker community is all about ripping resources from popular JRPGs. >_>

Just to untangle it a bit, those types of fanmade games are a subset of indie games, but certainly not the whole story.
There's probably an equally large segement of independent games (I really had the word 'indie') that are commercially made and sold for profit.
I've said a few times that the way we should be encouraging the games industry to grow is similar to the film industry: you have the big blockbuster games developed by large studios, but you also have smaller studios producing high-quality (and probably more innovative) releases. I particularly see that helping all of the video game genres that have fallen by the wayside.
Runman is totally boss and everyone needs to play it.
