Hmm, what form should it take - some sort of desktop widget or something?

Speaking of which, if someone could point me in the direction of a PC Bigpond Usage meter (ie some form of tray app) that'd be dandy.
I grabbed one of whirlpool but it didn't work.

I would also like this.

K, if nobody finds any working apps for this soon, I'll call Telstra looking for an API, and probably pick a cross-platform GUI library. Should be pretty simple.

A quick google brought up this (http://www.mactalk.com.au/2009/06/18/thursday-how-to-monitor-your-data-usage/) list of Mac-based usage meters, including one for Telstra.
As for Windows, I use this (http://netusage.iau5.com/) for Firefox. Supports a bunch of different Aussie ISPs. Never had an issue with it in the years I've used it. Not quite what you're after in a tray app, Laz, but ehh.

Oh, I was going to make a usage meter app. I probably should've just said that, but bleh.
Cross-platform means it supports Windows and Mac, basically.

Should I never offer to make small programs for anyone, ever? Or should I link you to every forum I've ever tried to "impress people" on, so you can stalk me more effectively?
EDIT: @TAT: it's probably best to source usage data from the ISP.

You're welcome. :)Thanks, but … I can't download that. Some rubbish email thing. :/

Sorry, Commie, I just started using it to get an idea of which programs were most bandwidth-intensive. I had an issue last week where about 2Gb of my usage was unaccounted for. I narrowed down the problem to Steam auto-updating games (including a 400Mb patch to Empire: Total War).

Well, yeah, those sorts of programs are brilliant for tracking local usage data, troubleshooting etc. But if your significant other's laptop is at fault, or some script kiddie next door is breaking into your network, that program won't tell you.

I know, because I'd already eliminated those possibilities

TAT beat that script kiddie up good, he won't be playing WoW for a few months.
Months? I'm not expecting him to regain the use of his hands ever

Cross-platform means it supports Windows and Mac, basically.
You should write it as a widget/gadget, as they're more-or-less standardised across both platforms (and, I believe, KDE as well.)
Also, AFAIK most ISP usage meter pages don't have an API, so you need to get the HTML page and parse it for the info you want. Telstra did use an API, but they either changed it or removed it a year or so ago.
Thanks, but … I can't download that. Some rubbish email thing. :/
Ah yeah, he must still be doing that. Don't worry about it, the site's trustworthy, so just let it send the email and you'll get the download link in an email back.

lolwut. stalk you? explain plz.
by all means, help people, but any normal person would have just said "hey I can make one for you!". just cut the bullshit, bro :)
