Bought a game that won't work out of the box? Seek advice here!
Ok, today i picked up Fallout 3 : Game of the Year edition. Installs fine, launches fine, go to start a new game and after a few seconds on the loading screen i get a "Fallout has stopped working" message and it crashes to desktop. Naturally i went straight to google and i found it's quite a common problem. Unfortunately nothing i've found so far actually fixes it. Things i've tried:
Reinstall
Not installing the DLC's
Updating drivers
Making sure it doesn't use FFDSHOW
uninstalling FFDSHOW and installing CCCP
Making sure .ogg files play in media player
Running on low in windowed mode
Turning UAC back on and setting privelage level to run as administrator also disabling visual themes.
Finally and most stupidly i read a thread where someone mentioned GamerOSD screwed it up. Uninstalling that screwed up a lot of things. <_<
Ended up having to do a system restore as all these fixes did more damage than anything.
EDIT: Might try getting a no-CD crack and see if it makes a difference.
I've also read a lot of people who have crashing problems also have it with oblivion, same engine or something for both games, oblivion runs fine on my computer.
