Bought a game that won't work out of the box? Seek advice here!

Ok, today i picked up Fallout 3 : Game of the Year edition. Installs fine, launches fine, go to start a new game and after a few seconds on the loading screen i get a "Fallout has stopped working" message and it crashes to desktop. Naturally i went straight to google and i found it's quite a common problem. Unfortunately nothing i've found so far actually fixes it. Things i've tried:
Reinstall
Not installing the DLC's
Updating drivers
Making sure it doesn't use FFDSHOW
uninstalling FFDSHOW and installing CCCP
Making sure .ogg files play in media player
Running on low in windowed mode
Turning UAC back on and setting privelage level to run as administrator also disabling visual themes.

Finally and most stupidly i read a thread where someone mentioned GamerOSD screwed it up. Uninstalling that screwed up a lot of things. <_<

Ended up having to do a system restore as all these fixes did more damage than anything.

EDIT: Might try getting a no-CD crack and see if it makes a difference.

I've also read a lot of people who have crashing problems also have it with oblivion, same engine or something for both games, oblivion runs fine on my computer.

I find this hilarious because I played a pirated copy of FO3 on my computer absolutely fine without any cracks.

Funnily enough, one of the posts i found on this issue said the exact same thing. >_>

Had a pirated copy that worked fine, ended up buying an official copy and had the same isssue.

Buy a console, I heard you don't have to spend 18 hours editing .ini files to get the jump button to work in a game. (1)

Enjoy your inferior graphics and input system. Also limited modability.

Mate the fact is I can play and finish a game by the time you've just installed it, I'm sorry but it's the true truth.

Have you noticed his gaming habits? He finishes games the way most of us finish breakfast - quickly, and while we're doing three other things.

That's just like saying you can finish making love faster than he can!

I have a console, i just wanted to save $30 for what should have been a better play experience. =[
Plus my brother is constantly on the xbox as he technically owns it. <_<

Anyway, none of this gets me closer to playing Fallout without going back and trying to get a refund and then forking out the extra cash for console.

Wolf is a barely-employed IGA meat dispenser. He's got so much goddamn time.

Man, you're thinking of the old me. Two days ago I was playing Brutal Legend on my 360 and Devil Survivor on my DS at the same time, now I finish multiple games at once!
