good lord, you'd think the ABC would have told them to shut the **** up by now and go into damage control by simply IGNORING the bad press and letting people forget about it. Instead they keep adding to the spectacle.

Yeah I think they probably needed to that a week ago if it was going to work.
I think they've actually been given a directive not to discuss these matters anymore but occasionally can't help themselves.
Here's the rest of my little fun though:

I don't really blame her for feeling hurt, people are dumping a lot of shit on her. None of this is her fault, it's the producers. What they should have done is kept Jung and Bajo on ABC2, and have her and someone else on the spin-off on ABC3.
Jung would have kept his job, the other show would have had "mass appeal", Hex would have been on TV, the internet would have been silent. Nothing could have gone wrong and everyone would have been happy. This is why I should be in charge of everything!

ffs, I was hoping for an obese kid so I could be all like "They sure have some MASS appeal right now! The move to change hosts sure has WIDENED their audience! ho ho ho. Their target demographic is BROADENING" and so on.
They've all lowered themselves by talking about it online. It's funny; I care so little about the show, but still find all of this interesting.
It's amazing that Bajo can type "rediculous" and "reiceve", considering he's supposedly a journalist. If he had to write his own reviews, he'd have trouble reading them off the tele-prompter with spelling that awful.

Well, yeah. It's TV isn't it?
I think they still do their own reviews in most, if not all, cases. Hex mentioned that she had to play and review KH herself.
As for Hex laying it on a bit thick about the old-school gamer I don't really blame her. Her knowledge of gaming has been attacked from the start so I'm not surprised she is trying to make a point of her origins.
Wasn't that origins bit just a one-off introduction, exaggerated for (attempted) comedic effect, which was only done because it was her first episode? Didn't Bajo get his own intro video on his first episode?
I don't see why everyone is making a fuss over that video, I mean it's not like she's going to be justifying herself every week. It was just an introduction so the new host would have a backstory, and all of a sudden everyone's saying "OMG SHE SUX COZ SHE HAS TO JUSTIFY HERSELF". Really?
The facebook group was alright until I started receiving retarded messages like "Can you all leave the good game facebook group and not watch it anymore".
I almost ragequit the Facebook group when they sent a message telling me to 'try and get this story on to The 7PM Project!' WTF? The 7PM Project is shithouse and no-one cares about it. The only reason it's still on air is because they commissioned a billion episodes right off the bat, not because it's being watched. You could call it 'Headland Syndrome'. ;)
I did notice she sits on the left (as we view it) as to hide the ineviatable " Basic Instinct " leg cross that nearly happened on her first show.
Now that would get mass appeal! :p
It's definitely worth watching for the hilarious joke at the end...
http://www.gamearena.com.au/videos/browse.php/12/
I saw the word 'Bigpond', and then the video had to buffer 4 seconds in so I decided not to waste my time. ;)
then read the interview posted in link.. What else you need boy?
ROFL, that quote made my day.
(Hint: It's a girl!)
Also as a mod DONT DERAIL THREAD PM ME.
I stand corrected. THIS is the quote that made my day.

I'll bet they did tell them to ignore the bad press, but you know Bajo... he's a real gamer's gamer! Except gamers don't want him.
Here's the rest of my little fun though:
Love how Bajo blames the games as if the quality of a game affects the quality of the review.

This.
Why is it that in TV people feel the right to know the intimate details of a person's cessation of employment when divulging such information is considered the height of unprofessionalism in any other industry?
Jung isn't coming back. He's well and truly done his dash with the ABC regardless of the truth behind his claims. Good Game will go on with a new host. If this robs you of your enjoyment of the show then stop watching otherwise continue watching and stop demanding others give you the goss on other peoples private professional lives.
I should note this is all in addition to previous statements made where I think both management and Jung screwed the pooch in a major way by airing this in a public forum. Most involved have acted like 3 year olds and Joe Public is championing the cause of one tantrum chucker over another.

you mean other that the horribly mishandled and negatively viewed firing of a popular employee at a publicly funded, government run organisation?
I guess by the very medium of television, the viewers feel like they have a personal, vested interest in at least understanding the decisions being made that will impact upon the programs that they view.
Anyways, its pretty clear that there has been quite a drop in the quality of the show, which given that it was never particularly high quality in the first place, means its in a bad place atm.

Please don't mistake what I'm saying for suggesting the ABC has handled this well. It hasn't. Mistake one was the press release, it should never have been released. The ABC should have said something along the lines of...
"While we understand the viewership feels a connection with this show and are no doubt concerned about this sudden change in line-up we are not at liberty to discuss the reasons behind Junglist's departure as that is a private matter between him and ABC management.
Rest assured we wish to continue the show's focus on blah, blah, blah"
What they did release was a crass knee-jerk reaction to criticism that should never have happened.
Jung's response to the actual release was equally poorly handled. The correct response would have been to simply say that he disputes what was said but in the interests of professionalism decline to comment further.
I have more sympathy for his position of course. He felt personally slighted by the press release and responded in kind. His response is understandable of course but that does not mean he did the right thing. Just that it is easy to understand why he responded in the way that he did.
I also understand that fans of the show wanting to know the details of what has happened but that doesn't mean that the fans have a right to that information.
What has the publicity about this event achieved so far?
Stephanie Bendixsen being the focus of unwarranted sexist attacks.
A fairly ugly exchange between Bajo and Junglist
The integrity of many people being directly attacked by others with no knowledge of the facts
A level of toxicity that will ensure that one person at least will likely never find employment within the ABC ever again
A number of fans publically announcing their tin-foil hat wearing ways with some of the most ludicrous reasons given for the change-up. The latest I've heard is that the new game (http://blogs.abc.net.au/abc_tv/2009/11/alternator-gets-the-green-light-as-abc-tv-and-screen-australia-fund-a-serious-game.html) being developed by ABC TV and Screen Australia is the reason Jung got given the arse.
The creation of a hostile and unpleasant work environment
And absolutely no reversal of the ABC's decision to replace Junglist.
It is an incredibly messy affair with real people at the heart of it. If Jung disputes his removal then he has all manner of remedies available to him that can be pursued. This trial by public opinion may be one of them but it is by far the most ineffectual and ugly ways to conduct such business.

He was good because he openly admitted that he knew nothing about videogames beyond a very basic, casual understanding, but despite the fact that he would have rather been working for FourFourTwo or Wheels, he helmed a good magazine. The official PS3 and X360 magazines are garbage nowadays, but PSX-era OAPSM was the best gaming publication I have ever read.
Richie Young and Narayan Pattison had stints afterwards, among others, but it went downhill during the PS2 era, as it became more contrived and 'official'.

yeah tbh, I wasn't paying that much attention back then. I know he was the ed' but I mainly remember official mags being (and still are) propagandist garbage.
I still remember them giving The Getaway a glowing reviewYeah, I purchased every issue of OAPSM for a few years, took a break for awhile and bought Nintendo Gamer, and then did the same for OPS2MA. Back in the PSX days, the magazine had a much broader appeal, and had so many articles packed into its pages. The PS2 version was sparse in comparison, with just your basic news/reviews/previews/letters format, and all of it pro-Sony, of course.
I actually bought my first issue of OAPSM when I found out that I was getting a PSX, but I had to wait a month for the console, so I just read that issue a few times over in anticipation. It had Ridge Racer 4 on the cover and the demo disc. It was such a polished, adult publication, in stark contrast to N64/Nintendo Gamer's boy's club style.
I feel that if more gaming magazines were like OAPSM was, I'd still be buying some of them.
Oh, Rob Pegley went on to launch Alpha, so … Yeah, black mark there. :p
EDIT: Yes, Narayan switched from N64 to PSX, and then back to GCN, and then to PS2 again. He wasn't militant anything, unless he was getting paid. ;)

Yeah, the discs were great. When I finally got my PSX, I also got an N64 and a SNES on the same day, with about 70 games altogether, so it was a busy time in my young gaming life.
It was good that they promoted homebrew NetYaroze games on those discs, as well, even if only a small few were any good.

Except N64 Gamer wasn't an official mag, if that's what you were referring to. NMS was the official one, but N64 Gamer was better IMO.
Still, they paled in comparison to those amazing British mags, which combined the glossy professionalism of the official mags with the laid-back humour of the unofficial ones. N64 Magazine = best ever.

Some of my fave gaming moments involved playing PSX demo discs at friend's houses. Those NetYaroze games were a disgrace though. ;)1. He was talking about OAPSM being an official mag, not N64/Nintendo Gamer.
2. I don't know if you're saying I'm perpetuating that 'myth', or if the mags were, or what. Back in OAPSM, they never even mentioned the N64, and were completely detached from the console-fanboyism that I now realise was so profuse in N64 Gamer. Probably another thing that made the mag feel professional. Bashing another console is almost like Wheels bagging motorcycles, or FourFourTwo having a dig at rugby, it just doesn't happen. It's as if Nintendo magazines always had this inferiority complex, and felt as if they had to reassure themselves and their readers so that they didn't start buying a Sony mag instead.
3. I didn't read N64 Gamer very much, so I don't know how much of a Nintendo fanboy he was. Is he the one that gave PD 101%? Anyway, yeah, I don't see how anyone could expect that his enthusiasm for a product wasn't based on who was paying him. :/
4. The games weren't great, no (just check out the vids TAT posted). But promoting homebrew developers by distributing their games to a wide readership for free was, well, a really decent thing to do.
I don't remember Rocks n Gems though. Anyone play Adventure?

It's as if Nintendo magazines always had this inferiority complex, and felt as if they had to reassure themselves and their readers so that they didn't start buying a Sony mag instead.
because no ther mags experienced this lol
it was part of gaming culture when the average gamer had one console and was a kid. Sega mags did the exact same thing, and would be surprised if the sony ones didn't

it was part of gaming culture when the average gamer had one console and was a kid. Sega mags did the exact same thing, and would be surprised if the sony ones didn'tI never read Sega magazines, as I was too young, and I could hardly afford games, let alone magazines.
Nintendo magazines, such as N64 Gamer, Nintendo Gamer, GBA World, and of course NMS, have all possessed the same juvenile similarities, that weren't so obvious at the time.
I've read my fair share of Sony mags too, and while I can't comment on all of them, no OAPSM never bought into that sort of rivalry. It was almost as if they figured that their target audience couldn't even give a shit about the N64, and that it didn't rate a mention, or perhaps they genuinely didn't see the point of buying into it all. Not once can I recall a Nintendo game being mentioned in a review, whereas an F Zero review would no doubt mention Wipeout once or twice.
Anyway, OAPSM, great mag, get on it. Well, I mean, it doesn't exist anymore, but … Y'know.

I remember all of those Net Yaroze games, I still have the discs at home. Some of my favorites were Terra Incognita, Psychon, Rocks N Gems, Coneman (cause I loved the music!) and Clone.

I remember that, even some Japanese board game they rated really high and I don't think they even understood it, but they were all "ZOMG N64 GAME MUST BE BRILLIANT"
I may have thrown out my NMS mags during the great magazine purge of 2008

Is this something that the GG management team posted on their forums, and later removed?

No, I posted it on the forum but they didn't deny it, so it must be true.

Read that a couple of days ago-its long but definitely worth reading though. Also just read The Offensive Gamer's view on junglist being replaced by hex, and I thought hex had been called everything imaginable so far lol.

I don't know if you're saying I'm perpetuating that 'myth', or if the mags were, or what.
The mags.
I didn't read N64 Gamer very much, so I don't know how much of a Nintendo fanboy he was. Is he the one that gave PD 101%? Anyway, yeah, I don't see how anyone could expect that his enthusiasm for a product wasn't based on who was paying him. :/
I could, because I only ever read his work in N64 Gamer. Once I read a review of Matt Hoffman BMX in Hyper where he said the game was average and how it showed just how old the ageing PSX technology was or something, and I thought 'well what do you expect? He's a Nintendo man, of course he's gonna bag Sony'. But yeah, his constant love-fest over Goldeneye, Rare, and most other N64/Nintendo related things was nothing short of epic (not to mention the constant Sony hate), and if I'd ever read him saying good things about Sony it would have been like waking up one morning and seeing Winston Churchill endorsing the Nazis.
The games weren't great, no (just check out the vids TAT posted). But promoting homebrew developers by distributing their games to a wide readership for free was, well, a really decent thing to do.
I think it may have been too far ahead of it's time. Now that the technology and distribution for indie games has become better and cheaper, we're seeing some real classics coming from that area.
Also, I think I did play Adventure once. It sucked. :p
I used to read NMS until N64 days where they gave every launch game a 10.
Yeah, I remember when they said Super Mario 64 was the best 3D adventure game ever or something. Duh! At the time of writing, it was the ONLY 3D adventure game ever!
But to be fair, the only game that ever got a perfect score from NMS was Turok 2. Most of the launch games got 99%...
I remember that, even some Japanese board game they rated really high and I don't think they even understood it, but they were all "ZOMG N64 GAME MUST BE BRILLIANT"
That was Shogi, and I don't remember the review being that glowing (it only scored low 70s).

No. Croc was release more than a year after Mario 64.

Whether she's "all about being groped" has nothing to do with it. If I were sitting as close to her as Bajo is, I would grab her boobies. End of story, my snarky friend.

They are REALLY trying hard to do things well on Good Game and they're not really quite there in terms of pulling off a mixture of mainstream material and hardcore gamer bait.
You have to feel sorry for Hex, she must have been through a lot of shit, not to mention the added pressure all this has created.
