Which version of the game do you prefer?

Here's how I see it:

DS Pros:

- Most minigames are better with the touchscreen
- Menu interface is user-friendly and vastly superior to the clunky PSP one
- Cut scenes/still frames are better
- No loading times

PSP Pros:

- Bigger screen and clearer, sharper graphics makes things easier to see (and AFAI can tell, you can see further ahead while driving)
- Better sound, including more radio stations (who doesn't love a station dedicated to Anvil? :p) and the full theme song (ie. with lyrics) at the beginning

Other than that, the core gameplay is identical so it's pretty even so far, with both games having their pros and cons. However, the tiebreaker that the PSP has is that you can buy the game online and download it to five different consoles. This means that if you have mates with PSPs, you can get five copies for the cost of one DS copy and trade weapons, drugs and money amongst each other, which adds to the fun.

So IMO, the PSP version is the winner. What do others think?

Wow, really? Have you tried it?

Anyway, I don't think I'll ever bother picking up the PSP version. Spruced up graphics, better sound and a few extra missions isn't enough to warrant a second purchase, plus after playing the game with the touch screen and DS features, I don't think it can be topped.

My copy of the PSP version should be arriving sometime soon. I never played the DS one thanks to a broken DS many years ago and never replacing it.

I'm pretty excited about it to be honest.

Already have the DS version but I'd be interested in picking up the PSP version for the better graphics and bonus missions.

But I won't pay full price for it but it will end up in the $20 pile at JB at some stage so I'll buy it then... or wait for the inevitible PS2 port so I can play it on the TV

It seemed to be based around the silly minigames, so I'd go DS, but I never really put much time into it.

So it is possible to do this? My mate said he could and I didn't believe him. Seems strange the PSP would allow games to ge given away like this. Also, if it is definitely possible, do Sony permit it? Ie, do they mind if you do this?

PSP version, but if i had to choose, it would be neither, playing gta from the topdown view is old, just stick to gta iv until Rockstar focus on V.

If the first post is spot on with the pros of each then it's a no brainer... PSP version

Really? I'd have thought - if the first post is spot on - that the fact that the mini-games are better on the DS would make it the superior version.

Chinatown Wars Go! Super Criminal Team Assemble!
Go, get out of here, shoo! Yes, I gave it a fair go - but I still do not enjoy top down GTA, so I choose niether the DS nor the PSP game.

But I must admit that crumbling the Chinatown Wars DS cart into a fine powder and smoking it in a gentlemen's pipe is most agreeable to one's wellbeing. GOOD SHOW!

Yeah but the thing about that is, mini-games are going to be shit no matter how you look at them.

I don't get what you're insinuating.

If you purchase a game off the PSP store, you can download it to five different PSPs with that account. That's just how it is. Sony must be okay with it if they came up with the feature. My brother and I do it all the time, downloading free copies of stuff the other person bought just because it's free. We also have a couple of friends with PSPs who we give free games to.

TBH, the only reason I even bothered to play it on PSP is because my brother bought it, so I downloaded it for free. Then I did the comparison (didn't play it when it first came out, too many other games at the time) and realised that they were essentially identical (bar a few small things that didn't affect the core gameplay), but the PSP version encourages a multiplayer feature that makes a huge difference to gameplay.

When I was starting out, he gave me a ton of cash and a few weapons which I used to obtain drugs. Later, I traded some drugs back to him (in exchange for more money and such) which he then sold in his game to make back the money. It's pretty awesome having real-life players as additional dealers/suppliers and such. :p

So basically I got the PSP version for $0 extra (or if we go halves it's still only $30 each). If we wanted to do this on DS it would cost him $60 extra if you go by the RRP. There's the tiebreaker IMO.

Really? I'd have thought - if the first post is spot on - that the fact that the mini-games are better on the DS would make it the superior version.

I suppose it depends on what you feel is more important. As I mentioned before, I feel that the multiplayer aspect that is made easier by the PSP version makes it better. However, if you don't know anyone who owns either console, or you have no method of downloading PSP games, the mini-games may become the most important factor.

Then again, you spend about 90% of the game driving, and it's good to have something real to listen to while driving. :p

So I saw a poster for the game on PSP today, and it had an absolutely glowing review quote on it...from FHM. >_> YEAH THAT'S A GOOD WAY TO DRUM UP INTEREST!

I was just surprised by that fact as it's the first time I've heard it and was asking if you tried (ie. confirmed) it. I'm not implying it can't be done or anything, if that's what you thought I was getting at.

Yeah, it kinda sounded like you were saying 'oh really, coz I've tried it and the game won't even ****ing download' or something. ;)

But yeah, I've been doing it for years so it definitely works.

Probably trying to win back the street cred they lost by releasing a DS game. HEY LOOK AT US WE'RE ALL ABOUT SEX AND DRUGS AND CONTROVERSY :p

I LOLed at this, because it reminded me of when Pro Evo 2008 had a glowing review from ZOO magazine (the weekly version of FHM) on the back of the box..."Brilliantly playable...an unspeakably ace upgrade".

Then you start your first match, and you'll never guess what smutty men's magazine is prominently advertised on the side of pitch hoardings...
