View Full Version : EyePet
I know this might sound funny but has anyone played/seen first hand what this thing is all about; I'm thinking of getting it for my daughter [almost 3], just wondering if it isn't a waste of money...

The idea is novel but I'd probably get sick of it after an hour.
Stevo is probably the closest you'll get in here to the opinion of an actual 3 year old girl (unless Creedy weighs in), so I'd take that as gospel. :p
Seriously though, is 3 a bit young? I was almost going to buy my niece a DS tomorrow - it's her 5th birthday - but I think it's a touch too young.

My emotional maturity is at about that level
Kids might like the game but I don't know, at that age they might prefer something tangible like a stuffed toy or an actual pet.
BTW Jay kids are real sponges when picking up technology. A guy from work has a 5 year old daughter who plays DS and Wii and from the stories he tells me she's been successfully working the dvd player for years
My daughter works both the 360 and the PS3 quite well to play movies; she doesn't really play too many games [just a couple of duck games], I mean she's only three. But something like this which is interactive [hopefully] and shouldn't involve too much controller feedback maybe would be better. Kids can learn alot from games, as long as parents work with them, Skye [my daughter] learnt colors from the XBOX controller, as well as shape recognition and some of the letters...
Was just wondering if this might be fun...
Yeah, I know they pick things up fast - my nephew can operate the TV and DVD player and he's 3 and 1/2 - but I'm wondering about when to introduce them to games. It is a slippery slope as we all know... :)

I recommend giving them a healthy dose of Left 4 Dead 2, thanks to the censors it's perfectly fine for kids now.
That was my thinking. I was going to grab her Nintendogs, but thought Left 4 Dead 2 and a 360 might be a far more appropriate present.

If the pet wasn't some horrible scary Seaman hybrid I'd take a better look at it but it's even a bit odd and strange for me! :S

You could probably buy a real pet for the cost of the game.

I saw a video where some asian hoes drew a penis and showed it to eyepet, then eyepet drew it and played with it.

It's an interesting looking bit of software, but I was burned by the lack of usefulness of the PS2 eyetoy. That and the fact that it had rubbish games, I won't fall over myself to get my hands on this.
hehe, bought it for the whole sum total of one day... even my daughter was so bored she said, "aba [dad], let's play Borderlands" :P well she would have said that were she allowed to even look at these type of games... She did enjoy it for a bit once the Monkey/Pet/Thingy got on screen; but wasn't too engaging [for either one of us]; used the refund to put a pre-order on Dragon Age so is all good.

Get a real pet and teach the kid proper consequences for not taking good care of an animal.
But then I'll have to get her a shotgun and you know how that'll go...

Well?
I'd say she'd have more long-lasting fun with something tangible. I know, when I was a kid, I would have much rather had some Matchbox cars than a racing game, or some action figures instead of a beat 'em up.
I see such young kids playing with their parent's iPhones nowadays. Shit, I got my first console when I was seven. They meant so much more to a kid back then, when your mates had one and you didn't, and then you finally got a Sega or something, and treasured it. Whereas kids nowadays will all have parents with consoles already.

It can be a touch too young, but my ex's daughter was only 5 when she was playing with the DS. Bright girl who was kicking her grandmother's arse in Big Brain Academy. My niece is also 5 and loves playing Nintendogs.
You'd be surprised... but at that age it's also a bit of work for you too because if they fail a couple of times they'll come running to you to 'fix' it.

This. I had an Atari 2600 when I was maybe 7 or 8, with maybe 4 games and I FLOGGED those games to death! Same again with the next console, the old Sega MS. 3 or 4 games on that, I didn't care how many I had, I played the absolute crap outta them too!! I loved those consoles to the point that they literally shat themselves one day after a couple of years of taking a serious beating.

Played this at a harvey norman store and the technology seemed to be broken, didn't really do what I wanted it to do.
