The Pep Forum does not exist yet, but when it does, these are the rules of Pep Forum:
No one can talk about Pep Forum
Well alright, you can talk about it.
Pep Forum works like this: you see someone make a pep-worthy post. Go to Pep Forum. Do a thread title search for that person's username. If a thread does not exist, then create one.
Make a post in that thread which contains a link to the pepped post and potentially a comment on why it was pepped.
No other kinds of posts are to be made in the thread - any further discussion of the pepped post can happen in the thread it was actually posted in, unless you are also pepping the pepped post (in which case you will also put the link in your post.)
Pep scores are then tallied on how many posts there are in your named thread.
Users are not to create their own pep threads.
Here is a pep thread for heatz0r. (http://www.hyper.com.au/forums/showthread.php?p=1130860#post1130860)

Easier for YOU maybe. Now we need to make a Nep Forum too.

People want Pep back, but as we know it's a noxious breeding ground for disorder because apparently it comes inseparably bundled with Nep.
Here then is a transparent compromise.

There's the Pep Club (http://www.hyper.com.au/forums/group.php?groupid=21) in the Social Groups
I've taken to cutting up little green cardboard squares and sending them to people in the mail.

lol, I followed that link and pretty much every post is invisible to me!
I think a forum with a thread-per-user is much more user friendly than the groups or profile messages, which I've never even noticed before anyway. Given nobody is using them much it's a widespread issue - people don't want those solutions.

The advantage (and disadvantage) of pep was its convenience, a button right next to the post for you to instantly comment.
If people can't be bothered to post to someone's profile, or in the Social Group, then I can't see them copying a post link, going to a different section, searching for a user then creating or posting in their thread

You'd be better served starting a campaign for the return of pep, or even better, just neutral rep - no +/- and no tally. This is just silly.

Better to leave it off, Blake's been pep free for months now. You don't want him to go back into rehab do you?

This is the stupidest idea since the removal of pep.

I quite like the idea.
If you want a pep fix, just go to UYAC. Because it's not a big deal there, the problems went away (I'm looking at you, FX)

This idea already exists on the forum.
Unfortunately, I have learned from my previous mistakes, and am not allowed to talk about it. Stevo has broken the rules and will be punished accordingly.

I've been saving pep worthy posts for months now with a plan to start a thread showing why we should get pep back. I will now post them all here:
ftr the UAP (which I've dubbed the "Everything's OK Alarm") in Vista can be switched off.
Um.

What about Junglist, Bajo and Hex?

So if someone has a username containing less than 5 characters, they will never receive pep. :rolleyes:
Also, it's a pretty stupid idea IMO. Too much work and too convoluted.
EDIT: In the time it took for Aub to formulate and explain his idea, he could have gone to UYAC or TNB and pepped a hundred posts.

Actually while we're complaining about things, is there a way to have a shortcut to the social groups page from the main page or in the Forum Jump list?
It's kind of hidden away in the usercp
And also why is good hair product so flippin' expensive? Mods?

And have full account access straight away and say naughty words without being raped by asterickses

This is true because I posted ****s over there and it came out ****s, not like ****s here.
Personally I like the asterisks. It keeps things junior friendly, and it's not like it's that hard to work out what you ****s are posting anyway. I cannot see the problem with the asterisks.

I don't think you guys are thinking ahead: people would PROBABLY provide a link to their own pep thread in their sig.
Of course, activating the rep system again would negate the need.

This is a pretty dumb idea. Bringing back pep or a pep forum are both stupid.
If we need a new forum section: I'd vote for either a blog section or a serious discussion section.
If anything we need less sub forums.

Rep = reputation
Pep = positive reputation
Nep = negative reputation
Leave pep or nep for a post, along with an optional message, if you thought it was good or bad. Pep and messages would then show up in your User CP, along with the message (if there was one) and a link to the post. After a while, names of users also showed up alongside the rep they left.
A bar would appear under your avatar to show what kind of rep you were getting. Green for pep, red for nep.
It was abolished because people were thought to be abusing it by bullying people through nep. The people in question were clearly not told that they could turn it off, which would give them a grey square and prevent anyone from giving them any sort of rep. :rolleyes:
Also, people were thought to place too much importance on it, and for some people giving pep became more of a circle-jerk than actually judging posts.

When used properly, which seemed to be most of the time, the effect of getting pep for posts which entertained people (or were otherwise good) was highly satisfying. Pep also fulfilled the gamer's natural desire to hoard meaningless tokens. Sort of gave the forums an RPG element.

Ideally, it was a way of judging posts, rewarding better posts and punishing poorer ones.

If we were going to go down this route (and I hope that we don't). I'd prefer something more like the system on facebook (or more accurately fmylife etc, except not anonymous) where we could like or dislike individual posts and the "pep" went to the post instead of the user. That would probably limit the possibility of those kind of pep circles like we had before.

I actually like that idea, but I don't know enough about how vBulletin works to know if something like that is even possible. I'd assume it would require some kind of mod, like what we did with the YouTube embedding?
Just bring it back, shit was fun for making idiots throw tantrums.

Or better yet, bring back the pep button but when it is clicked it actually bans the user who clicked it for 2 weeks.
