Speaking of RPG elements- something that bothered me in the Darksiders bit was when they said there was no reason to not use the finishing moves. Actually, there is. If you're trying to level up any weapon other than the Chaos Eater, you'll want to avoid using the finishing moves in order to get more EXP for your chosen weapon. Also, if you're trying to save up for something, you'll want to avoid the finishing moves and kill enemies with the Harvester to get more souls (currency). There are genuine incentives there (unlike in God Of War), though I suppose with the ABC's timeframe for reviews they may not have played long enough to see those incentives.

On another note, it bothered me that they called Bayonetta (the game, not the character) a 'demon smacker', even though all the enemies are angels. Unless there's a massive twist at the end...

All minor complaints though.

The term is pretty interchangeable in Christianity when taking into account fallen angels; those exiled or banished from heaven. Plus the game has a hell level

As you'd already know if you read past the bit you quoted, it was only a MINOR complaint. I thought the episode was pretty enjoyable overall, which is as good a reason as any to watch it. :p

So hex and baj were at the powerhouse museum's retro gaming exhibition a few weeks ago. It was great, if only because I got drunk before going in. I found it hilarious when they had to ask the speakers questions, because it was so bleedingly obvious jung/hex had no ****ing clue what they were talking about when it came to game design over the past few decades.

I liked tonight's ep of GG. Loved the reviews (especially the digs at Dante's Inferno), liked the backwards compatible bit, and also liked the feature on the 48 hour game. Really looking forward to the Final Fantasy retrospective next week as well (let's hope they actually show it unlike that Call of Duty one).

Well, Spawn Point sucked this week. Only one review, and it was just the Winterbottom review from Monday's ep so I fast forwarded it. I hate the Gamer Spawn section, fast forwarded that. Not really I thought the show was ok Hansen did well. I know the No more heroes thing is personal opinion but they reviewed a sequel without any knowledge of the first game and from what they said im not even sure they played #2 enough to review it. Complaing about camera issues during fights is fine but there is a lock on system that fixes that issue. I honestly didn't notice the dodgy camera during the game because of the lock on.

I had to laugh when on GG they made some ill-advised comments about DQ in comparison to FF.

It's like HEL-LO! It's been around since before FF, it sold massive numbers and the first FF would have never existed if it were not for DQ.

I've been rewatching episodes from 2009, and the quality of the writing was much better imo. The episodes themed around the 80s and 90s were a good laugh, I'm guessing it must be different writers for that Space episode, how else can the awfulness be reasonably explained?

Its one thing to have shows that talk about new games on the air but if they arent of the quality they used to be then why should they be there at all? If I want to see people's views about new games etc that actually mean something to me I'll find something on the net or read a quality mag like hyper.

If you can stomach some of the cringe inducing public access quality reviews it's a pretty decent show, much better than GG IMO. They're just about to reach their 200th episode so it does make them the longest running video game show in Australia so they must be doing something right.
