Well after waiting all these years I think it's finally going to happen, I've finally gotten into full time work at my local newspaper, I'm in a pretty stable position financially and I'm ahead with the rent. That means I can finally upgrade to a good HD TV! :p

But I'm still a bit nervous it is going to be a big layout of money and I probably won't upgrade again for another handful of years, I want to get it right.

I'm not fussed about size, 32 or 37 inch is big enough, rather I'm concerned about picture quality. I want a good 1080p, with the best picture quality for my budget.

I want to spend about $1,300.

I've noticed I can buy some good Panasonic 1080p tvs for $1,099 which is probably how I will go.

But has anyone some suggestions or advice? Going to list a couple of tvs I'm interesting in.

Any comments would be appreciated!

See if you can't get an ASHDTV (http://video.yandex.ru/users/jumy3254/view/604/)

I picked up a 32" 1080p Samsung for $1000 (with 3 year warranty) from JB. Really happy with it so far, though the stand isn't the sturdiest. Supposedly, Samsung are a great brand for 32"/40" LCDs.

I think I'm going to go with one of these. Dick Smith has Samsung LA32B550s for $997, 1080p, good looks, great picture and built in HD tuner, ticks all the boxes! :)

Although I might check out JBs because if I want the extended warrenty I'm going to have to pay an extra $79 for it Dicks. :(

Will probably pick it up Monday, so excited!

Well I jumped into the HDTV market and picked up a Samsung LA37B530 and I'm really happy.

The picture is clear and crisp, the colors are vibrant and bright, the shadows are suitably.... dark.

So far I've ran Uncharted 2 and Earth on Blu-ray through and I can't think of anything better to display the power of HD. Earth looks incredible, breath taking at moments.

I paid $997 even though the RRP is $1399. :) An extended warranty to three years was an extra $49.

Man... I don't know where you live, but the Good Guys have had an incredible deal on at the moment.

They're doing a Sony Bravia 40", full 1080P, 100Hz LCD which normally retails for $1999 for $1498... But wait there's more!

It's one of the models which Sony are giving away a free PS3 with plus you get an extended three year warranty!

And if you don't want the PS3, you'd easily be able to get $400 for it which makes the TV $1098 in the end.

Absolute bargain in my books.

That Samsung isn't 100Hz is it?

Okay, say I wanted all of these things in a HD telly, but with no or low input lag - is this possible?

Yes, the Sharp Aquos range has a Game Mode that pretty much eliminates the lag problem.

I can't find anything like that on their website?

And you didn't need to tell me that.

Lame. :(

There's also some Panasonic plasmas and LCDs that get under 16-30ms too.
