With the soon release of the half blood prince on DVD and the deadly hallows in production for it's big screen debut hopefully next year leave's me scratching my head asking why has Harry Potter suddenly gotten a lot better over the recent year's?
Most obvious guess is Harry Potter grows into a more mature Viewing from it's rather younger targeted audience, I am hoping the deadly hallows premiere is going to end the book to movie series with style as for the hope of more book release's is sadly hopeless due to the last book ending it good and well.

You have severely offended a diehard fan by thinking it's called the "deadly hallows". On the other hand it's you, so you kind of expect these things.

The kids book that grown-ups can enjoy!
I like how in the last book J.K. added about 3 superfluous semi-swears to make it MOAR MATUREZ

Series peaked at the third book.
This, every subsequent book tripled the page count but halved the content, not to mention Rowling wrote a last book that essentially made the previous six entirely pointless, and completely did away with absolutely everything they were trying to say.

Agreed! Out of all of them this is my favourite book by far.

It hasn't, it has gotten worse.
Series peaked at the third book.
So did the films. The first two films were better than the books, though that's not saying much. The third film was really quite clever, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and if it speaks anything of the quality of the book, then that equates with what you've said (though I've heard a lot of fans of the books were particularly unhappy with this film).
After the atrocity of The Goblet of Fire I haven't even bothered watching any of the following films.

well you're not missing anything, they suck.
The only good books were 1 and 3. 4 was just okay, 2 was marginally worse again, and the rest were pointless, drawn-out shit.
The movies have all been crap. I'd say that the third one was the only watchable one.

The third one was great, I assume, because Alfonso Cuaron was at the helm. That guy is great.

You see, those drug education people were right; horse cock is a stepping stone drug to cannabis.

I think the term you were looking for was 'gateway drug'. I haven't read the books, but I've liked the movie series, except for The Half Blood Prince. It just seemed to go nowhere and did a lot of nothing to set up for the next movie. I don't mind movies being part of a series, but I think they should all be self-contained stories, where you can sit and watch one without (much) knowledge of the series. I don't like 'to be continued' movies.

Third book is the worst in the series.
Peaked at 4, lulled at 5 and 6, finished well with 7.
@ Jim
So you hate 'The Empire Strikes Back'? What?
Third book is the worst in the series.

What series were you reading?
god tier - 3
high tier - 1, 2
middle tier - 4, 6
low tier - 5
shit tier - 7

I'd just like to point out that 5 was significantly shittier than 7; and that whilst 3 is good, you're putting it on too high a pedestal.

This. 3rd is the best, but not by the huge amount that some of you guys claim.
As Aran said, 7th book gave the rest of the series the finger and went wherever it wanted, but I still found most of it entertaining.
I love how opinionated people are over Harry Potter though, its all such serious stuff.

Harry Potter is about as culturally important as a future footnote in media textbooks.
Horribly bland books, even worse movies and Radcliffe can suck a dick he can't act for shit.
Plus it has a ginga - what the hell else can go wrong.

This is what I disliked the most about The Deathly Hallows, and the entertaining parts only really bookmarked the middle which ****ing dragged like nothing.
EDIT: Oh, and it's the worst for me because of the goddamn Epilogue. Rowling might have well have written "And they lived happily ever after" for all the good it ****ing did.

This.
I still really enjoyed the books after 3, though they could have been a bit shorter.
IMO the movies have been pretty terrible representations of good books. 3 did a decent job but still doesn't do the book enough justice. Every one since then has taken the bare bones of the main plot and culled the rest with exception of the last film. The biggest problem with HBP, is that they basically removed the major plot line completely. Excusing that, it is a fairly decent film.
Reading the 7th, I wasn't really sure what to think. I felt cheated but still entertained. Without a doubt the epilogue was the worst thing to happen to the series!

Hell, I was reading Order Of The Phoenix the day it came out, and got about halfway when I thought to myself "Yeah, this is pretty shit, over it."

Everybody got married to everybody else and named their kids after every character who had died and THEY ALL LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

Handing the series to a good director?
Can't wait for Deathly Hallows. Of all the books, it certainly lends itself to a film adaption better than the rest.
