Normal games are pretty much all over the shop with regards to who you get matched with. Ranked isn't a whole lot better - you pretty much have to be absolute top tier to make it out of the dregs. There's a problem with balancing an individual ranking based on a team's performance, but given the nature of the game I'm not sure how else to do it.

Not that I can remember - other than maybe for when she was first released and people were trying to work out how to build her. It became pretty apparent that shutting down carries is what she is best at, and that Sheen was pretty much her go-to item. Then triforce or AP and Lichbane/deathfire.

I just had a match as Cho'Gath with a couple of people and two random bads. Random #1 was feeding all game, and despite a couple of us starting really strong, he kept getting picked out of position and we kept losing teamfights. Eventually, they went to Baron to try and end it. Half my team was dead, but I waltz up to baron, about halfway through the fight, and just start hitting it as well. A couple of them try to hit me, but I have full feast stacks and my GA up. As my team arrives, Baron is about to go down and I feast it, stealing the buff for our team. We ace, then push and win. So much lol. Cho is awesome. Hadn't played him in ages, might pick him up again.

Depends on the situation. But usually... Sunfire Cape, Banshees, Force of Nature, Thornmail, Randuin and the initial Doran's Shield.

Their team comp seems pretty bad. Very little in the way of CC, no bruisers or support. Urgot and Kass are vaguely concerning but not really with a little MR. Not really that surprising you won, just surprising they're that bad :P

Eve stun, Shen taunt, Kass silence, Kass slow, Urgot suppression, Nocturne fear... Yeah. It was a bad comp, but they should've been able to kill at least 2 of us with burst. I think they couldn't adapt to our pro strat :p

Got back into this a few days ago. Tried out Maokai, loved him, hes good fun. Also gave Rammus a shot tonight for the first time and hes great, getting complimented for being competent in pub games makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Unfortunately I haven't had much oppurtunity to play Trundle, and when I have my team has been useless. I guess i'm going to have to stick to being a mad tank, since other people are terrified of tanking or something.

Maokai is super fun. I go through phases with tanks, and right now he's the only one I can have fun with. I think it's mainly because of the little saplings he tosses - so adorable!

But yeah, building him full tank last game and managed to 1v1 a Yi who thought he could kill me. I camped in the bush waiting for him, Ult, root, sapling, Q, release Ult - dead Yi.

It's horrible. Kind of gives him a bit of burst (stun, ult then shatter) but he doesn't need it. Range is terrible, huge cd and to use it well you need to really get in the fight so then you gotta be tanky to not die in two seconds. It'd be nice if it stunned one target or aoe slow at the start.

The heal in his old ult was great for tanking towers and made Spirit Visage a fantastic item on him.

Not playing Taric any more after a few more games.

This game is starting to get me down. Purple sucks and the fix is so braindead simple. I just came out of a defeat where I was top of the kills with goddamn Zilean. Some people should never play anything other than beginner bots. This game is way too dependent on your teammates not being incompetent and the matchmaking is seemingly incapable of differentiating even with the wealth of stats they keep.

Only started playing this over the past couple of weeks. Having a ball although the long match times mean finding time to play more than one match in a sitting can be troublesome (I could stop playing other games of course and devote all my time to LoL but that would be silly :P).

Seem to have found an affinity for Janna whom I've bought with the points I've earned so far. It's a bit odd because as a general rule I don't do well with support classes in games. Regardless her abilities just seem to make sense to me. Just need to work on some good builds.

Also tempted to spend a bit of real cash and buy her steampunk outfit. :P

Janna's great. I'd get RoD at the start and the rest depends on my team and the other team. Usually AP and some defence. If they're mostly AD or the AD champs are doing the best I'd get Glacial Shroud (building to Frozen Heart later or straight away depending on how things are going), if they're AP I'd go with Banshee's Veil or Abyssal Scepter. I'd think twice getting the Scepter if someone else already has it as the passive doesn't stack. Almost never get FoN as I wouldn't get a whole heap of HP, making the passive not as good.

I like Shurelya's Reverie's active ability and Nashor's Tooth is good too.
Spirit Visage's passive is great with your ult.

Stacking AP is an option as usually you'll be the last to die in team fights (they hopefully wont focus you + good positioning) and you'll get a heap of assists. You'll also want CD reduction but anything over 40% is a waste.

The hardest thing with Janna is timing your ult.

Dominion is a lot of fun. I've played 4 games and have noticed a few outstanding champions.

Heimerdinger holding bottom allowing a 4v3 gang up at top. Karthus' defile prevents capture for a good 7 seconds after death (not to mention quick money leading to multiple AA). Gangplank stopping and delaying capture. Jax and Sion very effective in gang fights.

Nope. My only game was with Maokai and he's super useful, especially with that ultimate and snare. Does decent damage without having to build for it, and remains extremely tanky.

I've noticed 4-1 top/bottom split is better than 3-2. Early levels it's easy to defend 1v2 at a capped point while the tower is attacking them.

I don't really have a problem fighting them. Well except Garen. I just don't like it when my team mates use them and they do horrible with them.

In most draft games that I've played, Rammus, Akaki and Gangplank get banned the most.

I've been using Twitch + crits lately. Boots of Swiftness + Black Cleaver + Phantom Dancer (x2) + Infinity Edge + Starks Fervor (or Tiamat). Very deadly when you can pull off spray and pray while they huddle up together and capping.

Been playing this a lot lately. Finally unlocked Volibear and having a blast with him.
Last game soloed top and got fed nicely. UNfortunately they had an afker and ended up surrendering just as i was getting close to finishing my build. Was having fun destroying their group gank attempts. Such an OP champ.

Yeah, but he doesn't need to be fed. He is a great ganker and if built right consistently becomes a huge threat late game.

He's not really a great ganker, since he'd need to burn flash to be able to get in range for the throw, at which point his target can probably also flash away. Unless they are massively overextended, at which point nearly everyone is a great ganker.

He also doesn't become much threat late game, in my experience. If you build damage, you aren't tanky enough to get in the middle of the enemy (enemy pops ignite on you, your passive is now worth shit, you cop a stun to the face and you die pretty quick). If you build tanky, you kinda don't do a whole bunch and can pretty much be ignored.

Udyr is a similar but more useful champion imo. But whatever - play what you have fun with ^_^

Rolling thunder towards me -> I stun you, slow you, walk away etc etc. It's easy to see coming, and easy to predict. Unless you are overextended. His bite does OK damage if you stack health (which would come at the expense of these attack speed items), but it's melee and unless you are right next to a dude, you aren't going to be able to hit anyone with it. See, someone like Singed is similar to Volibear, but has better potential to chase/gank because of goo slowing. You can speed boost with your ult, goo before they can react, then fling into poison. Much harder to react to and see coming.

Also, there is literally 1 item that contains attack speed for both MR and armour - Madred's and Wits End. Neither of these contain any health, and Madred's is one of the most expensive items in the game (and the actual amount of armour is quite small). A good Voli build would probably be something like Heart of Gold into Randuin's, Warmogs (if you're getting farmed), Wit's End, then maybe more MR or armour depending on the enemy team. The problem is, anything he does with a full build can be done better by another champion.

Cho'Gath has better CC and damage with a similar build, Singed has better CC and roughly equivalent damage if built correctly, Udyr has better CC and damage with a similar build. It's not that he can't be effective at times - it's just that there are much better champs doing similar things, and he's in no way overpowered.

If i'm ganking i won't be charging at you from the front, that's just silly. If i'm coming from behind unless you flash im going to get within melee without rolling thunder. Assuming you have a stun, you have to get far enough for me to not just chase you down with rolling thunder after. Only need about 3- 3.5k health for bite to do decent damage, especially seeing as you usually try to save it for an execute(gains bonus dmg for targets missing health). Otherwise if im laning, play defensive and throw back into tower range whenever they try to push. Surprising how often that works.

Just because you think there are better gankers out there doesn't mean he's not still a good ganker. There are entire Volibear guides based around the fact he is a good ganker. In fact, every single thing i've read while learning how to play him has made a special point of how good he can be at ganking. I also have personal experience with him. After the first day i bought him i played with some guys i know who are all pretty serious at LoL and even they were constantly commenting on how great my ganks were coming out of the jungle. Volibear is good at ganking no matter your opinion on the matter.

If you're coming from behind, you're running past my tower, at which point I have plenty of warning, and plenty of time to react. Good players won't constantly over-extend when people are MIA. Good players certainly won't get into a position where they can be flung into tower range, unless they think they can just kill you. Most stuns/hard slows/fears would provide enough time to simply walk away.

If you're laning, why would I push? Why wouldn't I instead take advantage of the fact that a) you're melee and need to get close for last hits and b) you have no natural sustain in lane (other than your passive, which can go on cd, and not necessarily going to help you anyway)? He doesn't have any real place in lane at this point - most top laners have better sustain and actual stuns etc (e.g. Renekton, Udyr), bottom lane ranged AD/support would harrass the shit out of him and still out sustain, he would struggle to get any farm solo mid against the AP hero, and his jungling/ganking is slow and poor compared to other heroes.

Guides can be a good place to start for beginners, but they also tend to be written by inexperienced people who get fed by baddies a couple of games and think they are great. The amount of shit (or flat out wrong) advice I've seen on guides that are 'highly rated' is ridiculous.

Ganking isn't solely dependent on your champion. Factors like timing, knowledge of the other team location and composition etc etc are all just as important. Any hero can gank well against a bad team constantly overextending without wards. Compared to other heroes, Voli just doesn't have the gap closing ability or hard CC needed to be considered 'good' at ganking imo. What he can be good at is chasing late game, winning certain matchups top lane (though he is kinda easily countered), and tunelling carries late. That said, there are still much better heroes for doing these things.

Generally, you shouldn't be past river alone if you don't have proper ward coverage and/or don't know where the enemy is. It's just asking to die. If you see 5 down bottom, you know you are safe to push.

In lower level games, people won't ward and they will overextend, making themselves really gankable.

Basically everything Watchers said is still relevant though, success in a LoL match is mostly about awareness and taking advantage of opportunities found by being aware, and also not having a team full of squishies.
