surfin' right now!
I used to. Not brilliantly, but enough for it to be a casual hobby. Haven't in a few years, however. Unfortunately I don't think it's quite like riding a bike...

I used to rent a one-bedroom flat right on Arataki Beach, which is one of Mount Maunganui's world-famous beaches for 2 years and surfed whenever I could.
Strictly a Dunger man here, nothing under 7 foot and single fin.

Yep, Longboarder though. 115 kgs and short boards just don't work for me.

Is it true that surfers can be really hostile to each other, particularly towards noobs?

Really? I'm really not very good I've only surfed a few times in my life but I've never had any trouble with anyone, though I do make a point of keeping well away from the people who know what they are doing and I'm always tagging along with friends who surf.
So yeah maybe they will treat you like a douche if you don't know how to surf and you decide to paddle around the other surfers and get in the way.
