He's probably planning an early retirement as a businessman/media entrepreneur given he's got a huge network of friends and shows now, and basically owns several of Channel Ten's primetime slots. If I had that much money coming in I wouldn't be wasting any time fronting a show.
Don't celebrate him going because he's clearly going to have a huge role with the network for a while.

Yep, between The Simpsons and Roving Enterprises, you've accounted for about 75% of Channel Ten's scheduling.

The folk at the network approached Rove with a simple request: thirty-five new shows to fill a few holes in their programming lineup.

Of his own execution, sure.
Should Ronnie Johns be the "new host" of a show named after someone else, do you think?

I don't really get why people hate this guy. There's a plethora of terrible Aussie comedians on TV shows. Maybe it's because I've been watching too much British comedy of late, but the 'comedy' on Australian TV is shit. Like GNW, which I caught a bit of just now. Mikey Robbins? FFS. Why on earth is that saggy skin mother****er still going around? And the woman? Terribly unfunny. And the weasel in the middle just makes the whole thing utterly unbearable. I can say with complete honestly that I'd happily watch an episode of Rove over that. Rove's a bit silly and immature, but at least he's occasionally humorous.

Yeah I hate GNW as well but to say so is blasphemy around my friends. Didn't think Rove was that funny but I couldn't have cared less anyway.

Bagging out Mikey, well that's fair enough. And Claire, well, she tries hard, even if she doesn't hit the mark, like, 75% of the time.
But bagging out Paul McDermott? Well you, sir, can well and truly go and EAD.

Couldn't disagree more. Rove seems to've become incapable of single-handed funny in the last few years, whereas I still usually get a decent laugh from GNW.
Now sure about the British bit, I don't get a lot of exposure to that short of Little Britain.

I don't like him. It's no big deal. Some guy on the Internet doesn't like a show/comedian you do. Grow some nads, love.
But seriously, what is so great about him? On GNW specifically I'm talking here. I've seen a few of his stand up musical routines and they've been fairly funny, but I can't tolerate him on GNW. The combination of the three makes me cringe. And he does look like a weasel.

Paul McDermott is undoubtedly one of the greatest and most intelligent comedic minds this country ever produced. His early stuff with DAAS was brilliant. Who could believe that there was anything that good and that unique to come out of this country nowadays? DAAS Kapital deserves a comparison with Mighty Boosh or any other TV show lauded for its uniqueness.
But I'm so sick of GNW. It's the go-to show when the network feels they have nothing better to put on. Some trendy new soapie or reality TV show comes out and they take it off again. McDermott must really have had to swallow his pride to return to it.

Time for a poll to work out the level of McDermott love/hate IMO. I for one remember really enjoying GNW when I was young (not as much as I loved Micallef though). Then it went to a COMMERCIAL STATION, and I never saw it again.
Many years, passed, and a show called the Sideshow started on the ABC. Paul McDermott hosted, and some girl called Claire had her own section. The parts of the show involving either of these two were some of the worst shit I had ever seen. The reasoning in my house was that the girl was shagging someone involved on the show's production, because, well, you all know how bad she is.
I found it hard to believe that McDermott was the same person who had made me laugh so much in the past. He would beat himself off and the audience would lap it up, and on the odd chance that even the troglodytes in the studio didn't laugh, he would tell them to, and the charm of his desperate weasel like demeanour was obviously enough to convince them that whatever he had said was in fact the funniest thing ever. I was willing to forgive his inability to say anything funny, based on good memories and the fact that he sometimes brought good acts onto the show, but it became impossible for me to ever like him again after he started singing actual songs at the end of episodes. You could sometimes make out the dark patch of jizz spreading across the front of his pants as he raised the mic to his mouth.
tl;dr: I find modern day McDermott insufferable.

Good News Week is a solid concept, but the comedians that appear on it are simply horrible. Pretty much the bottom of the Australian barrel. Mikey Robbins is horrid, Claire is worse. Paul, I'm pretty indifferent to, but he does seem to have 'obvious joke is obvious' down pat.
As for whether Rove or Good News Week is better, weeeeell, Corrine Grant appears on Good News Week, so Rove wins by dee-fault.

GNW rocks! Mikey and Claire are annoying but Paul is great as a host. And as far as the comedians that appear on it, only the Aussies are crap, Ross Noble, Stephen K Amos are worth watching the show for.
