Right. So any time a PC game crashes, it's the users fault? Oh, Lex. Anyway, I'm not going to argue anymore - I've learnt that arguing with you is like arguing with a brick wall, except that the brick wall has wittier retorts. :)
99% of the time, yes. Just because you fail at pc's doesn't make it a decent argument.

Making the argument "PCs crash" with the implication that consoles don't is a logical fallacy. Modern games, especially with with the likes of Steam, installing and running is no more fraught than playing the same game on a console, especially as consoles grow more and more complex in the way that they install and run games. They crash too, the difference being that with a PC you're more likely to be able to find a way to fix it on the spot.
The other 'reasons' well, again, they're fallacious.
But hey, at least you're paying a good price for console gaming, right? RIGHT?

New deals are pretty weak. Dead Space on PC is a bit of a mess, you can't run the game with V-sync because the mouse goes all floaty and then when you run it without v-sync you've got screen tearing everywhere. It's not horrible but it's a nuisance. Plus it's one of the cases that it doesn't look so great running at a high resolution, you notice texture issues a bit more. Can still be fun but I had more fun playing it on my PS3.

lol. In most cases I would take PC over console but sometimes the PC port is a mess. I mean just look at Resident Evil 4, it was originally released without any dynamic lighting and only a later update fixed that.
I've been playing Prototype on PC lately and it looks like arse. I know it wasn't the prettiest console games but sometimes running these games in a higher resolution just drives home the point that these games were originally designed to run at 720P not 1080P.
That being said, buying pretty much any twitch based shooter for console when it's available on PC is usually a mistake. (Although Wolfenstein on PC has horrible unfixable mouse lag.)

KotoR refuses to run on Windows 7 for me. Sonofabeetch. If I can't figure out the problem I guess I'll just run it with XP (I knew I had a dual boot for a reason).
Here's a 'fix' I read on Steam forums
I solved this by firstly making sure my graphics card drivers were up to date. My machine has a very new ATI 5850 card, so I downloaded the latest Catalyst drivers for it from the ATI site.
Then found the swkotor.ini file (mine was under C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\swkotor), and found the FullScreen setting, changing it to read:
FullScreen=0
This allowed the game to start up in a window. If you then go to Options -> Graphics, you'll be able to change the resolution to whatever you want, and the game will go full screen. You have to change the resolution every time you start the game, but this was a small price to pay for having such an excellent game work finally!
Once past this, I found the game consistently crashed about 15-20 minutes after starting, until I found another post that suggested there was a problem with the ATI card/drivers. Go into the Advanced Graphics options and turn off:
Frame Buffer Effects
Soft Shadows
Once these were both off, I never crashed again, and have been enjoying long hours of game play.
Hope this helps others to enjoy this fantastic game.
Haven't purchased the game myself so I can't confirm it
edit:
Purchased :p I'm sure I'll find a workaround
Natrak

Yeah, the first thing I did was update my graphics card drivers after making that post. It worked, the game did crash my PC not far in though.

Heads up:
Indigo (Fahrenheit) doesn't like the X360 controller, it detects the left analogue stick, but not the dpad, nor the other stick :( And my 360 replica controller is deciding not to work at all for the left & right analogue sticks yet all the buttons work fine (tested it in Windows 7 itself which should work perfectly). Updating the drivers to Vista 04/09 dated does nothing. I used to have a PS2 to USB connector but I gave it to a friend and no longer have a PS2 controller. I am now f***ed :(

Tried it, can't work it out. Also can't find the profile for it either for an alternative, seems like since Xpadder got a new forum all the previous profiles were deleted :( Why should something so simple be incredibly hard?

I've set it up to make it "supposedly" work but it doesn't do anything once I launch the game even though I've saved the profile & downloaded the controller image & mapped the buttons & tried setting the right analogue stick to various 4point/8point movement. Also it seems as though the right analogue stick is "stuck" on both the left & up movement, I put it as a mouse cursor and it kept on flying up to the corner of the screen making it impossible to control

I wouldn't recommend FFXI to anyone who isn't a uni student. You need mountains of time to dedicate to it (above and beyond WoW). And I especially wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't already know a heap of people playing it already, you need to group to get anywhere in the game, so I wouldn't even bother playing it unless I know of 4+ other people who'd play it regularly with you.

Steam is essential for PC gaming. Download it yesterday
The only thing to be mindful of is its use of your bandwidth.
If you're on unlimited then by all means go crazy, but if you have limited resources then I recommend only having it on when you're gaming, and changing settings so it's not constantly updating games (including ones that you don't play often).

Most ISPs will host content you can download unmetered. If you download a program like Steamwatch, you can filter what servers you download from, thereby limiting quota usage.

As part of the sale, you can grab Killing Floor (http://store.steampowered.com/app/1250/) for US$5, so buy it, shoot some zombies in the face and thank me later.

Too many games I'm willing to buy :( Like Silent Hill Homecoming, US$7.49, for that much I'm willing to try it out although it would be better if its on PS3 (for that price)
Does Steam have a wish list?

Does Steam have a wish list?
Yes. On the games store page it's to the right from the 'Add to Card' button.
Just throwing it out there, US$4.50 for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is a goddamn steal.
You'd be an idiot not to get it

Have you actually played it, or are you just assuming it's a good deal because it's ridiculously cheap?
I've got it, and have played about halfway through the main campaign co-operatively.
The only reason I stopped is because my mate fried his mobo somehow
EDIT: It's actually a good deal unlike half of the games tau bought last week, which he'll probably never play

Can second that being a great deal. Is a really good game if you're into the more realistic shooters.

Operation Flashpoint is a good game hiding behind stupid controls. Shit that doesn't fly in 2010.

Commandos collection and XCOM collection for $3.75 each.
You'd be even more of an idiot not to get them.

Meh, still waiting for games that interest me (or don't own, otherwise I would've grabbed the Tales of Monkey eps yesterday). The problem with Steam is that its hard to navigate through their most popular sellers (viewing 10 at a time is pretty crap)
One great bargain I spotted: Broken Sword 2 & 3 for $4 together

Worth getting Borderlands for $30?

Would you rather have $30 or have Borderlands? Personally, $30...

Good point, I'll keep my $30, and when I say keep I mean buy a carton of beer.

Actually what about Tales of Monkey Island pack for $13 or so?
Worth getting Borderlands for $30?
If you have someone to play with, definately, it's a great LAN game. Otherwise, nah.

Yeah I've moved on from Borderlands, what's your say on Tales of Monkey Island Lex?
Shamefully, I'm yet to play it, been meaning to though.

Is that the redrawn classic or is it something new? I played the redrawn classic a little bit but it was only entertaining due to mild nostalgia.
I don't want to be known as the guy who talks people out of buying things though.

It's the new episodic one i believe. Steam's got it on sale at the moment for US$12.

Tales of Monkey is good stuff. Some very nice Monkey Island type puzzles & the original voice actor is icing on the cake. Unlike Sam & Max earlier seasons they don't repeat the same environments in each episode either & each episode lasts enough hours so it'll take a while to complete
Basically if you like Monkey Island its an instant buy, especially for $12! Shouldn't have to think about it :p

**** games, I think I'm done buying them.
I'd like to thank sheeps for talking me out of buying 2 things.

I just know I spent a small shitload on heaps of steam games at the last sale (I did start this thread) and I don't play any of them.

So I ended up buying:-
Necrovision
Serious Sam HD double pack (cheaper then buying SSHD 2nd Encounter on it's own)
Damnation
Second Sight
Cryostasis
Jericho
Supreme Commander 2
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Civilisation 4: The Complete Edition
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
Thief: Deadly Shadows
Star Wars: Empire at War Gold
Not a bad hoard if I do say so myself.

I was capped during the last day, bloody page wouldn't load. :(
My haul:
Beat Hazard
Max and the Magic Marker
Winterbottom
Zeno Clash
Audiosurf
Cryostasis
Puzzle Chronicles
Sacraboar
Resident Evil 5
Killing Floor
FlatOut Ultimate Carnage
Super Laser Racer
Puzzle Kingdoms
Grid
Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West
Introversion Complete Pack
Overlord Complete Pack
King's Bounty: The Legend
My favourite so far would be Max and the Magic Marker and Winterbottom.
I slightly regret buying King's Bounty: The Legend and FlatOut Ultimate Carnage. King's Bounty because twenty minutes in I realised I've played it before and didn't like it. FlatOut because I've read it has no LAN and I brought it before it was super cheap.
I believe I'll try and not buy any-more games off Steam until the Christmas sale.

Mass Effect 2
Red Orchestra

Borderlands was about $10 on the US store and yet it was $30 for us. :(
Four pack worked out to be something like $7 each on the US store.

Yea i got Borderlands and San Andreas from US store, and L4D2 from UK. There's a VPN work around i got from PCPP forum that lets you buy it from UK/US store but it will only work if your paying with CC i believe.

Monkey Island 2 remake will be released on Steam in 1 hour from now. Huzzah!

Since I already own the first remake I've got a free gift of the full version of Monkey Island 1 SE. Anyone want it?
