So I've been watching some episodes lately (3 so far) of the first season (CG) and I hate to say this after being fairly disappointed with the movies I, II & III but I'm actually enjoying it & considering importing the bluray boxset for roughly $40. Sure there's the occasional cliche line & the character designs do annoy me a little bit but it sort of feels like watching the final 30min of Episode II: Attack of the Clones (movie) where there's a lot of eye candy action which you can sit back & enjoy & the clones (allies) are probably my favourite characters to watch since they kickass :p

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah, it's a decent show. I mean, it really is just an action fest that really doesn't have any of those obvious Star Wars ideas that the movies have but for what it is it's entertaining.

This show is awesome. The storylines, action scenes and acting are miles ahead of the entire prequel trilogy. I think the fact that they made Jar Jar Binks an almost bearable character is testament to that. ;)

If you like it now, keep watching because it gets so much better!

I quite liked what little I saw on Saturday mornings (who the **** airs an awesome show on a Saturday morning?). But I remember missing the voices of the original actors, it just made the characters feel so alien.

I miss the original actors for Yoda & Obi-wan but for the others they're not so bad aside from Anakin's padawan. Also its on Saturday morning because kids watch it during that time, duh :p Would be ace at a 7pm timeslot

Does anyone think the voiceover at the start of each episode feels like watching Starship Troopers?

Imported the bluray boxset for $38 excl p&h (RRP is $100 locally), there's 20 episodes so that's like $2 per episode + whatever special features, good deal & I love the coverart :)

Forget the original actors! As many others on the Internet have already pointed out, the guy who voices Anakin does a far better job than Hayden Christensen. He's a strong but flawed character, altruistic but with a hint of arrogance, not some wooden emo who flicks a switch between whiny and angry. :p

The guy who voices Obi-Wan is a bit pompous at first, but that's part of his appeal (plus he grows on you!).

Padme and Dooku are others who I think are just as good, if not better, than their film counterparts. Yoda and C-3PO are pretty much the same as usual. Jar Jar Binks sounds the same, except there's one episode where he actually says intelligent things and saves a whole squad of clones due to his knowledge of the environment. ;)

Ahsoka is annoying at first but gets better over time.

All the minor characters who got no screen time in the prequel trilogy end up stealing the show in this series. The Clones, Grievous, various Seperatist leaders, and of course, Cad Bane. Oh, and did I mention that George Takei voices a Seperatist guy in one ep? ;)

@ Backslash- Where did you buy it from? I might get the DVD version if they have it for cheap.

Amazon.com, the bluray boxset is region free but I don't think the DVD version is (which costs US$27.49)

Apparently there is an R4 DVD box set, because I saw it advertised in JB Hi Fi but couldn't find it on the shelf.

There is indeed, that's $65 at JB, if you've got a standalone DVD player there should be a code to make it region free & you can save yourself some money. I've got a region free standalone bluray+dvd player (except for blurays which is region B locked), a region A PS3 & AnyDVDHD for my PC which enables region free DVDs & blurays without modding :D I'm well covered

Up to episode 9 now and still loving it, wish my bluray would ship faster. The eps I'm watching have a huge Cartoon Network logo on it & they're cropped. Rather annoyingly though the original version actually has a theatrical aspect ratio instead of 16:9 *facepalm* Wtf is a tv series doing with a theatrical ratio?

It's not a bad TV show and I do enjoy seeing more of the Clone Wars, rather than just the beginning and the end in AOTC and ROTS.

I find it interesting going back and reading one of the first major SW novel series (Heir To The Empire) and seeing what they say about the Clone Wars era stuff. Suprisingly most of it still fits in, probably because it was so vague to begin with.

Received the Clone Wars Season bluray boxset today, bit disappointed with the packaging, its sort of like a book since it contains an artbook intergrated inside which is kinda neat in one way but the additional more important information that is normally displayed on the back is only held on with a bit of sticky stuff and a piece of cardboard which bends over the front, ugh. Don't see why they couldn't just print it directly onto the packaging, nobody can even tell its a bluray without it unless they examine the discs

Anyway, PQ wise its fantastic, very sharp & detailed and its nice to have the full picture without logos flying all over the place :) I'm considering rewatching it already, haha. Looking forward to Season 2, that Bounty Hunter on the last episode was awesome

You'll hate me even more for this Season 2 trailer :p

Also not too sure about the Season 1 DVD but the bluray version has a Director's Cut on selected episodes :)

edit: woah, there's already 8eps of Season 2 out!

Cad Bane! :p

Yeah. According to IGN, a Jedi gets tortured to death on one of them. Don't know which Jedi or which ep so it isn't really a spoiler...

10-12-2009, 02:25 AM
Yup, I'm watching that ep now (ep2), none of the good Jedis luckily :)

Haha, there's a good joke in s2ep2

*Jedis & clones board the ship's bridge*
Droid: "Don't shoot me! He's the Commander!" *points to another droid*
Clone soldier: *shoots him*
Droid: "Guess I'm the Commander now.."
Clone solider: *shoots him too* :D

edit: I'm pretty impressed by the voice acting with how close it matches the original people - Anakin especially since now he doesn't talk like a douche.

edit 2: Also impressed by how suspenseful the show is unlike the recent movies that cover it up with flashy cg. The guys who make these seasons (bar George Lucas) really love the franchise

+1 sale profit to me... :p

If anyone thought Season 1 was a bit lack lustre, Season 2 easily serves up some of the best moments, the storylines seem darker and the action is even more impressive, especially episode 5 which is almost like watching Attack of the Clones in its final 30min of fame. Couldn't wipe the grin off my face :D

Why oh why couldn't Episodes I, II & III be more like this?

Yeah so far its been fantastic, the first ep of the 4parter was fantastic.

I do remember the cartoon but to me it just seemed too ugly visual wise & didn't fit in properly so I couldn't stand it. That's why I think this series works a lot better because like the recent movies, it was already in CG except for some interior design & the actors themselves

Halt, Hammerzeit

I thought the first lot of the cartoons were great (the 5 minute episode ones). There was the continuing story following Anakin, Obi Wan, Durge and Ventress, plus the side stories including Mace Windu, Kit Fistu and Yoda.

The second cartoon was still pretty good, but it wasn't as action packed as the first one.

Yeah Queenie I've actually got the Tartakovsky show on DVD. It was pretty awesome. Really over the top, but pretty cool.

*bump*

Anyone still keeping in touch with season 2? I forgot about it for quite a while assuming the season had ended but a couple of days ago I discovered I've got 8 episodes to watch (up to ep22) :p On ep18 atm, always feel sad when the Clone troopers plan goes horribly wrong :( In this case - a bomb

Also for anyone interested the pirates make a return in a face off against bounty hunters + some Jedi ;) Unfortunately there's villagers too so its not totally dark & gruesome

edit:

Ep 19 (continuation from ep18) is decent for some 'Godzilla in the city' action :D Can't wait to see it on bluray. Great quote from this episode:

*Skywalker is tackling with the Godzilla-like creature with people trapped inside a ship*
Windu: "What is Skywalker doing?"
Obiwan: "Looks like another one of his improvised plans"
Windu: "How can it be a plan if its improvised?"
Obiwan: "Not to worry, just catch them when they fall"
Clone trooper: "A lot of the General's plans involve falling"

Season 2 Episodes 20-22 is a 3 parter for Boba Fett's first appearance, thankfully he's not as annoying as the live-action kid & he's a bit more devious yet still shows sympathy when it comes to harming others. So its got a better balance of character than the movie - however I wish it was the adult Boba Fett because he's much more awesome :p

I would've preferred that the godzilla eps was the season finale though as it felt like much more of a climax - lots of action & a city in peril. Oh well

Halt, Hammerzeit

I'm not sure how I feel about Boba Fett appearing in those 3 episodes. I mean, I like that he was in it, but I don't think The Clone Wars (with it's children's cartoon feel) could ever portray Boba in a way I found satisfactory anyway.

Yeah I wasn't that impressed either but it could've been much worse

I really liked the stylised cartoon series, but I finally stopped watching this current running series a while back. Each and every episode wants to make me bash my head against a wall, and my Star Wars fanboish tendancies always bring me back for more pain. The Clone Wars seems to just take the prequel trilogy, take everything I hate about the characters, make them seem even more two dimensional and wooden, and reinforce the notion that everything Lucas greenlit since the classic rereleases has been in an effort to sell more toys to kids.

Its not as strong as the first season but there were a couple of good eps, however I'm probably being more drawn in by the animation more than the actual storylines. It has its moments yet they're pretty far apart

I'm hardly bashing my head against the wall though, the movies do a better job at that

That's because The Clone Wars is a children's cartoon. You can't have in depth characters if you're target audience is under the age of 10.

I'd love to see a more mature version (say 15+) of this series, unfortunately its just not going to happen

I'm hoping that whatever Seth Green does with his SW series will have some darker aspects mixed in with the humour.

I like that show waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyy better than the modern CGI one. But both look really nice.

But of course, BOTH shows pale in comparison to the true genius of this production....
