Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

Amazing draw-distances, improved textures and models and some great filtering make this one of the better 'realistic' engines in recent memory.

The environments are more detailed and vibrant in comparison to the original. The characters movement (including facial animations) are very impressive. Remember walking through that snowy village for the first time? My mouth was open in awe the whole way through.

The game itself was bland and disappointing, but there's no faulting the impressive graphics. Detailed character models, great locations, and some impressively cinematic in-game camera work helped make the game at least look like the Indy knockoff it failed to be.

A polished diamond. The visuals in this game were absolutely jaw-dropping and the character animation was top-notch. A definite showcase piece for the PlayStation 3.

Honourable Mention goes to Need for Speed: Shift for one of the best representations of speed I've seen this year. Combined with the head camera physics, the immersion was fantastic.

Honorable Mention must go to Uncharted 2 & Flower - I could have easily voted for either one of them and someone other than Uncharted 2 has to make up the places in these damn awards. :D

Street Fighter IV.

I really thought that they nailed it, and also in a way that actually added to the enjoyment of playing the game. With a room full of friends playing, the reaction of the person on the receiving end every time the Ultra animation sequence would kick in was priceless. This went beyond simply thinking 'oh, that looks pretty'.
