NHL 10


Most flawless hockey game since NHL 94 came out on the Sega Genesis. Amazing graphics, great Be a Pro and Manager mode, only thing I can think of that was a disappointment was the lack of licensed International hockey teams. But when the game is this damn good, who cares?

Last year they may have won on penalties, but this year they've pantsed Pro Evo 4 - 0. The best football game ever made. Go Chelsea!

Fight Night Round 4

Near perfect representation of boxing. Gone are the ridiculous parries and rock 'em sock 'em robots of Round 3, and it its place is a system that relies on timing and movement where a precisely placed and perfectly timed punch ends a fight.

(I did initially vote for UFC Undisputed 2009, but that game is essentially the same game we've seen in a tighter package, whereas FNR4 is a complete revolution)

To be a fly on the wall at Konami's Headquarters as they realise that their Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution Soccer crown was taken away by EA's FIFA 10.

But more importantly it was taken away convincingly in this year's shootout (no pun intended).

Even as a die hard PES fan, FIFA 10 is the soccer game to own this year.

Maybe next year Konami.

I'm not a traitor. My loyalty has always lied with the sport of football, not a particular franchise, and as such I play whichever game I feel is the best. Much like how Dennis Commetti is loyal to AFL football and as such does commentary for whichever network has it.

And yes I used to play it, but I'm not going to keep playing a videogame franchise that's turned to shit just because it used to be good. You may as well call a die-hard Sonic fan a traitor for bagging the latest games. ;)

Loyalty is irrelevant if the game is soul-destroyingly awful. I'm not 'bagging for the sake of bagging', I was simply making an objective comparison of the games. :p

I prefer the analogy that if you were in a relationship where the other person treated you like shit and dumped you for no reason, you wouldn't keep saying nice things about them just because the first few months were fantastic. :p

Ah, now it makes sense. You see, I've actually played PES10, so my opinion of the game is not clouded by 'nostalgia' or 'hoping that it will be good' or anything. Hell, if you're such a massive Pro Evo fan, how come I've played the game and you still haven't, huh? ;)

Sadly, as a Pro-Evo diehard, EA have totally eclipsed Konami's games and have won my heart. Mind-crushingly addictive.

Honorable mention must go to Football Manager 2010 which as usual is eating up a million hours of my life.

The best looking sports game, easily over Fifa 10 and Madden 10. I am a huge Madden fan but I just couldnt vote past NBA 2k10. I have all three of these games and have used up more hours on NBA 2k10. Madden 10 in close second.

I'm not going to answer all of these. Re: the last point, I've played PES10 and still think it's a great game, I just said I hadn't bought it. There's no point me buying it until it comes down in price because it's hard to keep switching controls if you play both.

I thought the point of this thread was to nominate the best sports game of the year not to let everyone know whether you like a specific genre or not.


My vote goes to Fifa. Like so many others I was a staunch pro evo player but last year I got fifa and this year it clearly was the better game. I also did enjoy The Bigs 2, but I'm not sure if that was 2009?

Firstly, posting 'thread topic sux' is not funny or clever, and secondly, you seem completely oblivious to the fact that the main appeal of a sports game is the strategy and RPG elements, not because it's trying to be a substitute for outdoor activity.

Also, what are your thoughts on sports games which allow you to do things that you can't do in real life? Unless you really do jump 20 feet in the air when you dunk a basketball... :rolleyes:

Since I only played one sports game in 09, my vote is for UFC Undisputed 2009. Was 5 wins and 0 losses in middleweight until I got whooped by a submission. Note to self train submission defense or no undefeated for you!
