Which is to say, it's not an Ultima game.

EA do indeed own it as of Ultima 7 and oversaw the doom of Origin Systems, who EA had bought.

The article explains the gripe better than I probably could. Ultima is a long
dormant and sorely missed single-player rpg series, which EA have ressurected in name only, for this, thing which isn't an rpg. There's really nothing about the IP which seems to lend itself to other game types. I think Ultima can transcend Lord British and The Avatar although I'd be rebooting it, not continuing from Ultima IX...
