View Full Version : Tatsunoko vs Capcom
Bit of a strange brawler. Seems like MvC2 in 2.5D and only 3 attack buttons. Been playing it for a few hours, kinda interesting... Anyone else giving it a shot?

Yep .. it's awesome :D
Unlocked Frank West and Zero so far .. it's pretty much MvC2 with the 3D characters.

I was about to pick this up today, then I realized Mass Effect 2 was out. No chance.

I'm not sure whether to pick this up soon or wait until later, it strikes me as something that may be hard to find in future but there are games I'm more interested on the way.

Not something I would typically pick up, but I got a copy of this sent to me and - in my complete fighting game novice opinion - it's awesome. Very easy to pick up and lots of fun to play.
Looks awesome, but too bad I sold my Wii and I doubt I'd pick another one up :/
I'm finding the 3 button setup to be a refreshing departure from the standard 6 buttons. Was there ever really a need for so many?

Not really. I quite like the 4 button set up for the KOF series and Marvel VS Capcom 2 (which actually does need six buttons, for the tags + supers, but standard attacks are 4 buttons)
The first Capcom vs SNK went with the 4 buttons, but then reverted to the 6 button SF layout for Capcom VS SNK 2. I think maybe the Streeties characters were disadvantaged in the first one.
Anyhow, yes Tatsunoku is very fun, but I still like Marvel VS Capcom 2 more.
Played it last weekend on a mate's Wii (I don't have one).

You definitely need to use the classic controller for this game.

By ball you mean Yami? That's the boss on TvC IIRC.

Is it PAL? I'm thinking of buying it for a friend.

I kinda hope for your sake by TvC you don't mean Tatsunoko vs Capcom. If you do, then you deserve a

I see
The third incarnation of it gave me the most grief
The translations arent the best either but it sure is fun
I find Yumi kinda stupid tbh. Throw around a few supers and it's dead pretty quickly, and it's way too simple in its design - Dodge face raping special attacks > win.

Just a query, how is this in regards to balance for professional gaming? We're looking into it for AVCon 2010. Having a go at it tomorrow night.

There's an arcade game for this (don't know which came first, the arcade or the console version). It's a good change up from all the hard core fighting games.

I had resorted to a quick play via emu while waiting for this to arrive in our shores. From my very limited time with the game it certainly isn't crazy unbalanced ala MvC2. Beyond that I really couldn't say. I really only played with Jun the Swan and Chun Li - best girl fighting duo ever! :)
How did it run on the emu? Consistent frame rate?

...weird, thought I replied to this yesterday. Anywho-
From what I've read, the Jap version was fairly balanced and the english version was tweaked for even more balance. However, I can't help but feel like Ryu is insanely powerful.
I can't say if it's because Ryu has been around forever or because he's simple overpowered. I'd have said the forever thing but the 3 button thing means characters need to be slightly relearnt. Then again, the general flow is mostly the same.

Consistent framerate but we're talking 20fps here making the game extremely slow - if smooth.
Not that it mattered. I was only interested in seeing what the fighting mechanic was like with three buttons and it served that purpose. (Piracy aint my shtick)
I will say this, it is one of the best looking Wii games going around IMO.

^ I noticed that as well.
But PAL versions have (some degree of) slow down from their NTSC counterparts.
The Japanese version is a tad faster.

So what are other people's thoughts on the 3 button mechanics?

I like it, it keeps things fairly simple for newbies to come in and have some fun but is still deep for core fans.
I'd say it's fairly balanced for serious competitive gaming too!

I tried it last night, much better system than MvC2, but a lot of the characters come off very samey. Easy to play, hard to master.
Took it to a friend's place last night for some multiplayer fun, and boy was it fun!

Assholes. Zavvi has this 10% off code for "Xbox 360 and Nintendo" games, yet when I went to use it to buy this for $33 inc. post, the code doesn't work. Damn it.

Got my PAL copy today. I also own the first Japanese release. Dont miss all the neat mingames from the japanese version so much, but the lack of character specific music seriously blows. No Gatchaman theme!!!!
