Whose collection of Hyper magazines reigns supreme? Do you have them all? Stacked up, how high do they stand? End to end, how long do they stretch for? How heavy are they? Did you start collecting from 1993 onwards, or did you flesh out your collection by buying second-hand copies at a later date?

We want to know your Hyper story. For issue 200 (not long to go now!) we'd like to showcase Hyper's biggest collectors, and if that's you, we'd like you to furnish us with some photos of your collection and a brief spiel on your good self.

Interested in appearing in Hyper's 200th issue? E-mail me at dwells@next.com.au with some nice hi-res photos of your collection (bonus points if you can display them in some kind of creative manner), and I'll be in touch!

I'm missing issues 3 to 10 and I think about 3 issues somewhere around issue 20something, but the rest are mine!

I should bury myself in them and take a photo

Yeah I've got all of 'em from about issue 60 onwards. I actually used to buy them since the mags inception but didn't bother hanging onto them until about 60. Kicking myself now :(

I started at #19, then got a bit sporadic from about 50 onwards. Been consistent for about the last 2-3 years, but I did a clean up a while back an turfed everything. I generally only hang on to a 12 month cycle, and then turf them come the new year.

I have owned every issue from 13 onwards, with the exceptions of 14 and the one with Alien Trilogy on the cover. My mum sold heaps of them in a garage sale when I was still living at home about 10 years ago. They were falling to bits anyway. Damn staples.

Ah, old Hyper. Remember how every single page was unique? Unique, as in MY EYES! THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING! Very cool, if sometimes illegible.

Did you guys have the phone porn ads at the back like PCPP had a while back before someone lit a fire underneath their skirt and they pulled them?

If so, you should display all the issues porn ad page up for the lols. Yeah, that'd be funny.

Yeah.

Sorted through the collection

I have issues 1, 2, 11-18, then 22-197 although I cannot find issue 26 anywhere and I know I bought every issue from 22 onwards. Maybe it was lost in the great house move of 2009, or it's canoodling somewhere with an old megazone.

EDIT

ahhh Issue 25 is December '95 and Issue 27 is January '96. I think the first Hints Cheats and Playguide issue was labelled as issue 26 screwing up your numbering system, so when you celebrate issue 200 you're technically celebrating 199 proper issues. We'll keep it a secret

I stopped buying Hyper about 8 months ago. But i have every issue since the Majoras Mask (#88 i think) till i stopped buying. So i have well over 100 Hypers collecting dust in the back of my shed. I don't have the heart to just ditch them after all these years.
BTW, also have about 80 issues of NMS too!

I've been reading (on and off) since issue #1.

Been buying the mag / subscription for the last 3-4 years. My memory is foggy on exactly when I started getting subs over newsagent issues.

Can anyone submit photos? I have shiny new camera and even stacks of hyper on shelves. Glorious shelves I tell you, no more dusty cardboard boxes for my hypers'

My fav old photo was that person who spelt out the word "hyper" with the actual magazines arranged into individual letters.

I've been buying the mag since its inception, though sadly I'd say issues #1 to #8 (it's hard for me to check, they've been relegated to the back shed) are in peices and no doubt there's probably a page or two in each house I've lived in since, and probably, let's say from #8 to #80 have their covers missing, but it's always been nice (and during some dark years almost life-saving - that may sound funny to you but during those kinds of expieriences you grab hold of anything you can) knowing that no matter what happens, there's always gonna be another Hyper at the newsagent. And it just blows me out when I think about that 11 year old kid pestering his Dad to buy him this new magazine, and now at the age of 27 I'm still walking in to the same newsagent and buying the same magazine. I don't think many people have anything that consistent in their lives. Does anyone else who's been buying since #1 feel anything similar?

I've also had Letter of the Month 3 times. The first one was in an issue with a blurry pic of the Dreamcast on the cover (tomorrow I'll actually dig them out so I can give proper details) back when LotM was sponsored by 26 Red, I'm not too sure about the second, but they titled the letter AAAAARGHCADE and I won a steering wheel and pedals (possibly Mad Catz), and I can't remember what the third letter was about but I won a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0 mouse that I still use to this day. But the greatest thing was when I wrote in telling you guys about how my Mum was a massive fan of the SNES, Super Mario Bros. and Super Metroid in particular, but she was in a car accident in which she broke her neck, and due to her injuries she was losing the strength and dexterity in her hands. In an act of kindness that moved me and my Mum to tears, the Hyper crew sent her a SNES! It was one of the kindest things we'd ever expierienced. So Darren, if we can contribute in any way at all to #200, whether it be photos or just anything else, please let me know.
P.S. Whatever happened to Matt Hatton?

Hey Xenomorph, e-mail me some nice hi-res photos of your collection (dwells@next.com.au) along with a few words along the lines of what you've posted here. Tell us about your good self, when you started collecting, your favourite issues, what Hyper staff member you dream about at night... whatever you want!

Protip: be creative with your pics -- we've received some great ones so far, and we're looking forward to sharing them in issue 200. And again, I can't stress this enough, make sure your photos are of decent quality. It'd be a shame if your awesome pic of you benchpressing all 199 issues of Hyper was undermined by a piddly 20kb JPG.

I'll hopefully be able to email you the pics on Saturday, but if not then it'll be Sunday. Just remember though that a lot of the early ones are sans covers, so there'll be a lot of ads in general, and more than a few of those are for what was at the time the only place I could purchase games from, Hi-Tech World. Ah, memories. But yeah, I'd be honoured to write a few words, it's the least I can do for a mag that's pretty much guided every gaming purchase I've ever made, not to mention provided me with uncountable hours of entertainment.

The ever worsening (is that a word?) captions that accompany anything to do with boats, cars, under-water scenarios and other un-captionable things.

-The Ghost of David Wildgoose
-Stuff about Amos

TAT, that reminds me of the review for some Monster Truck game for PC that was reviewed years ago (during the Toose era I believe) which had a dearth of Red Foxworthy quotes spread across the screenshots (remember him? And how people thought he was funny? God, times change...) such as 'If you got your gun up the front, and your missus in the back, you might be a redneck!' 'If your tires are bigger than your truck, and your truck's bigger than your house, you might be a redneck!'

Australian Ninja: HOLY CRAP THOSE SHIRTS!!! Worst. Things. Ever. They looked like someone had eaten a bowl of Fruit Loops, puked onto a white t-shirt, then scrawled something like 'Before there were videogames, people read books to rot their brains.' But I agree; if I had owned one at the time, I would have worn it with a sense of pride. Actually no, they were that bad I would have worn it in the dark with only a vauge sense of less-shame.

By the way Australian Ninja, since you've been reading Hyper since the early days, can you remember the name of that guy who used to send pretty much all the cheats in? He even ended up getting a cheats page of his own for a couple of issues. At a rough guess I'd say it would have been around issue #15-20? I had a feeling it may have been Jickle, but I'm not 100% sure...

No idea, I do vaguely remember there being cheats stuff back then (when every mag had them before they invented the more useful version of the internet we have today).

I started collecting from the Max Payne review issue onwards. They all got thrown out about 2 years ago though, I figured there wasn't much point in holding on to them. In hindsight maybe I should have kept them.

My favourite running joke captions were always the "yellow car coming last" ones for racing game reviews.

I'll take some photo's after I'm done cleaning up the maze of boxes in my room lol.
I started reading Hyper around 1997, most of those mags are either lost or in really haggered condition however I didn't subscribe until early 2003 so I'm missing a few chunks of issues here and there.
