The Wii will finally go down to a respectable price of $299.95c on April 29.
The price drop coming two weeks after the DSi shifted in cost to $249.95.
Sure this move will piss off anybody who bought the consoles in the last four months, but does this move mean Nintendo still cares?

Spoiler Alert: Probably not
P.S. Stevorooni broke the news first, so I'd like to dedicate the thread to him.
Wouldn't have made the thread if I'd seen your post an hour and a half back. Sorry man.

This is the first official price drop since launch I believe, pretty amazing it was able to stay at $399 for so long, though there's been bundles and things going for a while getting you a better deal.

Competition between retailers will mean that even better deals should come out of this.

I hope so! At least we're seeing some value for money that no one has seen in the console since launch.
Cheers Stevorooni! Lol... I appreciate it.

I was about to shake my fist at you but now I have converted it into a hug (somehow)

Wow, I thought it was less than $300. Shows what I know. I think the move means Nintendo is being smart rather than holding it to the degree where everywhere else is getting one for free while we are still paying $400. The part I feel is retarded is the $50 difference between the Wii and the Lite. Granted I'm making assumptions, but I'd imagine the hardware to the Wii would cost more and the Lite is hideously OP.

Nintendo are profiting on every Wii sold, it's been years since it came out and only now an official price drop, costs would have dropped as well so they'd still be profiting. I'd imagine the cost to produce Wii > DS Lite .. and yet theres only a $50 difference in price. Basically, price is not simply a function of cost, it's a function of demand (even more so than cost).

.......but does this move mean Nintendo still cares?

Damn near every person and their dog either has a Wii or has had one (not literally, obviously), so a price drop right now is basically Nintendo acknowledging their want to squeeze every last dollar out of the market, due to sales beginning to dry-up.

That or they're coming out with a revised model with free hat.

Maybe it's for gamers who sold their launch Wii in disgust but would consider a new one for the handful of classics... From gamecube.

Corection to borgster: dsi is $250, dslite is $200.

Question now is is the dsi xl worth the same as a wii?

How about the Wii XL

Exactly the same package but for an extra $50 it includes a note saying "Buy a bigger TV"

Now tempted to buy a Wii for the two No More Heroes games and Super Mario Galaxy.

Truth be told, Monster Hunter Tri is seriously tempting.

You can all thank me for the price drop. I bought a wii second hand last week because I couldn't bring myself to outlay $400 for a new one...

Still more expensive than an Xbox 360. ****ing ridiculous.

Y'know, I wouldn't put it past them to release a '3D' capable Wii, or a HD capable one somewhere before Xmas. Tempted to put some money on that. hmmmmm *strokes chin*

If you're on the fence about getting Wii, I'd say go for it, there's enough really good games on the platform now to warrant a purchase. And many of them, like No More Heroes, MadWorld, Muramasa, Trauma Center etc you'll be able to get fairly cheap if you can find them because they didn't sell all that well. The only negative is that they could be hard to find. Though I'm pretty sure I have seen MadWorld/NMH at JB for a while for like 30 bucks.

I paid $400 on launch, no great loss on the $100 difference over the three years I've had it.

Great time to buy for those that haven't got one yet.

Looking ahead towards Christmas (a bit far off, I know), I don't think there will be anymore price drops but there will probably be some good console bundles.

Yeah expect some stellar bundles in a few months. They have a god-awful bundle at EB at the moment, two extra games that I think are on their $20 sale table. Hopefully that bundle with HotD Overkill and Madworld will come back.

I pretty much only want a Wii to be able to play Resident Evil 4ii again.

The only things I think I'm missing out on the Wii are Brawl and Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

Is the Brawl community still alive and kicking???

ireadtabloids

I think so. The game still sells reasonably well and I wouldn't assume the community to be any weaker than it was at launch =)
