View Full Version : Reputation System Feedback

Post any feedback in here.
As I said in the announcement, the system has been enabled on a trial basis to see how we go. We are trying to be as flexible as possible with the system so that we can settle on something that works for everyone.

As I said in the interesting developments thread, I don't think messages are adding points right now. Going to add it in, right?
But yes. IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK

Hmm I just rebuilt it after resetting the stuff... it should be working I haven't tweaked the pep power settings. Will take a look, pepping you for testing purposes.

I don't want grey pep, it reminds me of my Andy Foers pep on UYAC.

Hmm, still doesn't seem to be working.
Well, doesn't matter, until it gets fixed, I can still enjoy pepping Second with images of Smithers.

Hmm it should be working now, but not sure if it will retroactively grant points for the last 10 mins or so :p

I'd get that checked out if I were you.
Lets pretend that my nep is Omega AIDS and we'll see how long it takes before everyone is infected. If you are infected you are obliged to pass the disease onto others.

Mighta been asked and answered but I care not.
I'm wondering if you can or will you be able to see the rep you've been given? I found it uplifting to see who and why I got rep from, like for being awesome. I like being told exactly what I did that was so awesome to make another user click on a button and type in a message about how awesome I am.
Please?

It'll be under 'User CP' under your subscribed threads. I just gave you some ;) But I had a reason behind it, wasn't random pep

Guidelines seem good. I'd like to see an advisory regarding any single user excessively nepping a single user. "Spread" with pep, not nep, and avoid simply nepping every post of a user you dislike. Or words to that effect.
This makes me feel like Rocky in Rocky6.

It'd be cool if we could pep more people in a 24 hour period than is currently the case. Or even better, if the 24 hours could be changed to a smaller period. That way there'd be an incentive for us to visit more often. <_<

Yeah it's just a blanket 24 hour window.
If there's overwhelming support for raising the number per day it can be looked at, but I think it's a fair starting point. Are people really finding more than 15 pep worthy posts per day they logon?
Second
02-05-2010, 09:32 PM
I like to pep every awesome post I find. Sometimes there's more awesome posts and I'm like "I'll pep it tomorrow" and then tomorrow comes and I'm all "****, I might need that pepping power for later!" and then I never pep that awesome post and the awesomeness is never realised and then I get distracted by a scrolling user title and end my post sud

I've found today that it went very quickly.
The argument for keeping the restriction at that level would be that it forces people to be a bit wiser with who they pep, but on the other hand if we have looser restrictions then it would help limit the power of pep and help stop things getting out of control.

So I see that the moderators will find any excuse to ban someone who they don't like, but if someone who has friends on the modding team does exactly the same thing, they get away with it without even a casual warning.
Typical.

They were not merged. I saw Syt using both accounts, which is against the rules, and told him one of them had to go. It was our mistake his old account was unbanned when he already had an active account, so I didn't punish him for it.
Why is this an issue?
They were not merged.
Pretty sure Ash or Bob merged them after that

Dumb question time.
Where does it show you pep etc? In the old system you went to a page and it showed comments and who left them. What is there now in place of that, and where is it?
All I see is a green dot on some pages....

I really can't recommend that especially if it means you are giving it to the same person a lot. Reputation can be re-enabled at any time and all the comments will be there. Find a post worth commenting on from someone who is taking part in the system.

Reputation of a social entity (a person, a group of people, an organization) is an opinion about that entity, typically a result of social evaluation on a set of criteria. It is important in education, business, and online communities.
Reputation may be considered as a component of the identity as defined by others.
Reputation is known to be an ubiquitous, spontaneous and highly efficient mechanism of social control in natural societies. It is a subject of study in social, management and technological sciences. Its influence ranges from competitive settings, like markets, to cooperative ones, like firms, organisations, institutions and communities. Furthermore, reputation acts on different levels of agency, individual and supra-individual. At the supra-individual level, it concerns groups, communities, collectives and abstract social entities (such as firms, corporations, organizations, countries, cultures and even civilizations). It affects phenomena of different scale, from everyday life to relationships between nations. Reputation is a fundamental instrument of social order, based upon distributed, spontaneous social control.
