Just got one for my birthday, and after been a bit skeptical at first regarding reading off a screen, I've found it quite pleasant.

I'll mainly be using my kindle for storing my own writing and finding hard to find books. At least I hope so.

After some internet trawling I've found that only certain files are compatible with the Kindle, and not wanting to pay Amazon for a simple file conversion, Stanza works well converting personal files into a readable Kindle format (.prc or .asw). PDFs, although they show up on kindle, they are pretty much too zoomed out to be viewed comfortably, so converting with Stanza works a treat.

To those that have a Kindle, how have your experiences been with the item itself, using Amazon, and using it personally?

Can you play Doom on it yet?

I tend not to use Amazon, I just convert PDF or use books that are considered public domain (text files work if I remember right).

I use mobipocket creator for the PDF conversion. Works good overall, though some books don't convert well due to structure.

I also use the image viewer a lot for manga scanslations. I've read quite a bit of manga on it doing so.

I'm guessing you have the latest gen? Have you already got a case and light for it?
