Anyone else got this? My friend got it today (had to trade 5 PS3 games for it at EB & STILL had to pay $20 after pricematching for $84). Its basically like Mario Kart but with customisation from characters to tracks to cars

The presentation is pretty slick, nice FMVs & in-game graphics, there's a well balanced (if juvenile humour) but enough to make you chuckle. The chibi characters looked annoying at first but they quickly grew on me. Quite nice how for each track there's 3 achievements that vary from course to course so you're not just playing to win but also to unlock bonus items to further mod your character/car.

After a couple of hours though there's one thing you're going to hate doing, and that is waiting for the insane loading screens to finish! There's literally a 2+ minute wait for almost every single thing you do & even after installing 4300mb (4.3GB) of data onto your console & downloading the v1.1 patch it does nothing to help it. I felt like I spent more time waiting for the loading screens than I did actually playing the game itself. Online connection is inconsistent too, it'll constantly dropout and after 10 tries I still couldn't get an online race started

Aside from loading times I get the feeling that the modding is about 66% of the main reason why you'd want to buy this game. Yes, the courses are quite varied & it is fun in multiplayer (and online if I could get it working) but I doubt it'd be enough to keep me playing for more than a couple of days. Perhaps, like Mario Kart itself I'm just over kart racers with powerups

It looks decent enough, but with this sort of game part of the appeal is playing around with familar characters in a different setting (i.e. racing), in which case I'd probably look at Sonic all Stars Racing before I'd look at this.

Of course the customisation in this essentially means you could have even more characters / tracks than any other game out there.

I've picked it up and put it down about 10 times - I'd love to get into it but I know it'll probably just sit there while I replay Dead Space. Again. And it looks like the kind of game you really to invest time in to be rewarded.

I would like to see how well Wario Stadium (the MK64 version) and Sky Garden (GBA/DS) convert to this game - hell I'd like to see all the Mario Kart packs (no doubt they'll pop up).
The character customization looks good and the game as a whole looks more appealing than LBP - but I thought the same about that until I played it and the janky jumping ruined the game..

This game has been a big let down.

Load times are probably the worst part of the package.

Just took my copy back due to the stupid online Country Region Lock. Whats the point of only being able to play other Aussies on a game like this. There is NO way we have enough players to sustain an online community. The load times are stupidly long and not being able to muck around in the hub while waiting for other players to join an online race is unforgivable. I cannot believe they launched it as bad as it is. I CBF waiting for patches if ever they do them. LBP on wheels IT ISNT. I have heard reports of them unlocking the region block if enough people want it but the fact that they didnt do it from day one tells me they had big issues with it before launch.

Interest dropped, cheers for the heads up UKG

Bit of a worry that the first patch apparently "shorted the loading times significantly", I didn't play the game before the patch but I couldn't imagine the load times being any longer. It needs to be at least 10x faster than what it is now if its going to keep people's interest

I'm currently giving the demo a lash and while it's mildly fun and a little cutesy, I'm still seeing some pretty gnarly loading times even with the demo running straight off the hard drive. And by the sounds of it, the full game's even worse about it. Not exactly motivating me to purchase this game.

I've given it a rental for the week, the load times really are horrendous. The game's actually a very good fun kart racer, though.

The Aussie region lock means NOONE ever plays and waiting 20 mins for an online game isnt worth the time invested. You can see people in the hub sometimes but when you try to join an online game it ALWAYS starts a new game regardless???? If all these things have changed sinced I returned my copy let me know as I would repurchase.

What Aussie region lock? I've seen people from all over in the lobby, and the content certainly isn't locked to Australia only. At worst it's region locked to Europe.

I haven't tried starting a game online, so who knows on that front.

You race other Aussies thats it. The game has more flaws then the aussie copy of LFD2.

As I stated good luck playing online which is what the game is designed for. Lucky you only rented it. I had long awaited this game and was pissed that it wasnt what they said it would be. LBP on wheels it isnt.

Seems that if they hadn't region locked it online would be unplayable due to latency issues anyway. One of those damned if you do, damned if you don't situations, I guess. It's just a shame Australia was never really going to have the amount of players to support it.

I'm glad I rented it, but not because of any OUTRAGE that online racing has been region locked. The game's just not quite enough to really demand a full-price purchase.

I'm going to assume that the load times and severe lack of a patch is going to doom this game. Pity.

They are more like load minutes.

I just bought it. :(

Still, the local multi is generally where it's at for me with Kart games so hopefully that will be okay.

I'm sure that'll be fine, it's a fun kart racer, really.

It's tough as nails, really brutal AI, and the load times are, as mentioned, atrocious. To give you an example I have come across to my computer to make this post whilst waiting for the next screen to load.

What patch are they up to now? It was 1.01 last time I played my friend's copy (which was still really bad). Also the game's not that hard imo

It's tough in split screen multi - the single player not so much. A friend and I played split screen last night for an hour and a half and won one race between us. You must also take into account how shit i am at these things.

And yeah, I think it's 1.01

I absolutely hate the name of this game for some reason. I'm sure it's a good game, but the name just sounds so stupid to me :/ I also think the name 3D Dot Game Heroes sounds utterly retarded.

Is there something wrong with me?!

Finally got around to hiring this. The load times aren't so bad, but for the most part I just can not be ****ed to even bother playing it and I don't know why. I think I may have finally outgrown games.

Apparently they're about to release a patch which includes a casual mode, significantly reducing the difficulty level of the ****y AI. Not saying this is why you haven't played it super8, just that your bump of the thread reminded me of that and I thought I should post it.

Is it unlocked yet so Aussies can race the rest of the world?

As a very late response to this question: um, yes?

But really just bumping the thread because I have given this another run this afternoon and still find it pretty unforgiving. Oh and it took 45 to download the updates before I could play it too, which was a bit irritating.

I want so much to love it, but something holds me back.

It's just so generic. Caching times in game were still sluggish when I revisited last week.
