So analogue stick, one widescreen screen, the ability to turn off the 3D effect, improved graphics, sounds like a good deal.
Also those two cameras mean you can take 3D pictures, I don't give a toss about that but it's an interesting idea.
"Sorry to keep you waiting!"
NOW THAT'S HOW YOU DO A GAME REVEAL VIDEO

That was pretty ****ing good. Donkey Kong, Epic Mickey, Kirby? Ooh yeah.
Anyone else think Zelda looked arse? :/ Graphics were awful. Bastardisation of TP and WW... taking the models from TP and infusing it with the colour of WW yet not the cel-shading style... looks bland.

I thought they would have made the 3DS look a bit less like an upgrade to the DS to lessen confusion for stupid people, but it looks pretty cool.
and zomg Donkey Kong country and new Zelda Wii
I'll check out videos and hopefully better screenshots than photos of a theatre screen at a more reasonable hour. At least I was more prepared this time, this morning I just woke up at 2am, reached under the bed and grabbed the laptop instead of getting up like some sort of sucker

Agree. Unlike Wind Waker, the shading doesn't bring anything new to art style, and only serves to dilute the detail of the characters and environment. I don't know what they're going for exactly.
Natrak
16-06-2010, 03:46 AM
I really liked the visuals, although I would have preferred they went completely in the Wind Waker direction, but with the 'adult' link model.
Still pretty hyped by the Donkey Kong Country Returns trailer tbh. Think I might go play some DKC while I wait for the Sony conference.

New Zelda artstyle screams A Link to the Past to me.
AranchineD
16-06-2010, 03:52 AM
Well we all know that the final judge on the quality of this new Donkey Kong game will be IRS. I'll wait for his verdict.
Also I said it in the other E3 thread, but with 'Skyward Sword' being the name of the new Zelda game and all, anyone else think there could be an airship of some kind involved in the game?
Cicada
16-06-2010, 03:55 AM
Well this completely kicked Microsoft to the floor, quite an impressive number of titles as well, especially for the 3DS, though I suspect we'll be waiting a while for most of them. Was hoping Donkey Kong would have a little more than straight 2D, but it looks to be awesome anyway, as does Kirby's knitting extravaganza.
The Zelda demo was... a little worrying; I'm inclined to believe there were technical difficulties otherwise they wouldn't have been so brazen in displaying it, plus the gampeplay footage looks a lot more fluid. They talked about the art style being painterly and impressionistic, but I'm only seeing that about a quarter of the time. Hopefully it'll look better not projected and with a few months more polish. If they can get the rest of the game looking as good as Link standing in the grass during that montage/intro thing, then it'll be pretty sweet.
I think the technical difficulties were made to look like the game being shit due to the way they set up the fake dialog between the two. Miyamoto telling the guy that he was doing it wrong, and then failing himself to do anything remotely fluid was hilarious~
Cicada
16-06-2010, 04:00 AM
I don't think they intended for Miyamoto to be completely unable to demonstrate any items other than the whip and a bow that's too heavy for Link to aim anywhere other than his toes though.

Now that was a return to form. Best damn Nintendo conference I've seen in a long while.
I really don't know why everyone's bitching about the Zelda art style. I for one think it looks gorgeous, and that it's going to age a lot better than the likes of Twilight Princess. If you doubt me, go boot up TP on a 720p HD set. No really. I'll wait. That game looks like shit on a new TV simply because "realistic" textures don't scale well. The decision to go with something simpler and cleaner was the right one IMO.
Gameplay hiccups were unfortunate, but I'm with Natrak on this one. Given my experiences with WMP I think this could work out quite well. Link holding his sword at 1:1 while running around looks a bit goofy, but I'm willing to put up with that if it means they've actually shaken up the franchise this time.
The rest of the surprises totally blew me away. Yarn based Kirby game? Awesome. Donkey Kong Country!? I nearly passed out with joy. And they finally got around to a new Kid Icarus? Holy shit. Epic Mickey looks like a lot of fun, and while I'm on the fence about GoldenEye I'm pretty excited to see how it pans out.
I really hope Nintendo takes note of how successful this year was. A refocusing of their emphasis on games, games, games was the right way to go. I've actually got a small laundry list of games to look forward to over the next year, and that's not something I've been able to say frequently as a Wii owner. Way to rock, Nintendo.

So, do we actually know anything new and significant about Skyward Sword? That just seemed to show off a few items, questionable control mechanisms and a visual style.
I'll look at everything else later.

That was a terrible reveal for Zelda. We already knew it was going to use Motionplus, so the sword fighting and bow controls aren't really a surprise, and we know these are going to work fantastically based on Wii Sports Resort. The graphics look a bit bland, with the shots we've seen so far showing a rather empty world, and the whole game engine is recycled from Twilight Princess (which was from Wind Waker) meaning it just looks like Twilight Princess 1.5.
I think they needed to focus on a reveal that put a bit of...oomph...into the game. Show off what makes it special. Majora's Mask didn't look or feel like OoT 1.5 because of the incredible gameplay systems and unique atmosphere. The trailer on that E3 Nintendo site is weaksauce :/
Oh well, it's Zelda, so it's going to be awesome.
Now where's my 3DS Zelda game using the Majora's Mask engine?

Now why didn't they show any flying in the trailer! In Iwata Asks: "The sky plays a key role in this game." :/
EDIT: Now I see what you mean. The art style is shown off much better in screenshots than the dark-scene-heavy video. COLOURFUL! (http://www.nintendoeverything.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/skyward_heroes-4.png)
Also: Where the hell is the Vitality Sensor? I was expecting a new Wii Fit with it or something. Maybe they've smartened up and realised that you don't show that sort of thing at an E3 conference. And Pikmin 3 :(

I doubt we'll see the new Zelda before 2012. Miyamoto said we'd be "waiting until next year", but Zelda games always get delayed.
The 3DS (3-D movies without buying a $2000 TV, shit yeah), Epic Mickey and Donkey Kong Country Returns stole the show for me. Kirby looked awesome too. This is Nintendo's best E3 since the Gamecube days.
Edit: Ocarina of Time 3D! (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/ocarina-of-time-3ds-on-show-at-e3)

Sometimes I think I might rather buy a new game, but it could be interesting...
Hey guys. Technology is a tool
Am I the only one constantly underwhelmed by the Zelda Cell shading? I just..don't rate it. I mean it's cool, sorta, but I just prefer the style of graphics like in Twilight Princess ..

Yay for you.
Umm...
I prefer the cel-shading. The colours in Twilight Princess were too dull and pale. This gives a bit more life too it without being as obvious an effect as Wind Waker. I'm pretty happy they kept the WindWaker style enemy designs.
Might well be the best looking Zelda yet!
Yeh that's true. I didn't mean to say it was bad, it's just different. I'll still give it the exact same amount of time and love as I have with every other Zelda game :)

The DS has a lower screen resolution, so if it has the same grunt as a Wii it can do more with that power because it doesn't have to display as much.
I'm guessing that the bottom screen will just have power meters or something

great logic
Why don't they just implement an optional swear filter? Surely that's not hard? And the default option is to have the swear filter turned on, and you have to jump through a few hoops to turn it off? Not that it matters, it's just lame that such a great image that's sure to get laughs from the majority that view it is gonna get taken down :p

Some positive feedback from a Skyward Sword hands-on (http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/preview/45669/the-legend-of-zelda-skyward-sword/80503/)
I'm beginning to think that the visual style may be well-suited - it just really, really needs to be fleshed out. Actually, based on the artwork released last year and what was being said back in December about "realistic" visuals, this style was probably a recent decision.
Anyway, a few more positive impressions along these lines on the controls would probably settle me on the matter, but there's no real point making anything of it before actually getting a chance to play the game.
That said, all up they haven't unveiled anything new other than that the graphics are going sort Celda-ish and "the sky is important". Everyone even loosely tied to the project who has spoken of it has insisted that the old formula is going the way of the dodo, and that's probably going to make or break this game.
EDIT: Wikipedia is on-the-ball (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_zelda).
Also, maybe we should get a dedicated Skyward Sword thread fired up.

It looks better in screenshots imo, you can see more of the 'brush-stroke' style and subtle depth of field/motion blur they seem to aiming for. I agree with Fenrir that the style needs to fleshed out, especially considering most people believe it to be cell shaded when it apparently isn't. They need to do more to differentiate it from the 'Twilight Princess done in Wind Waker' perception.
I'm not totally sold on the direction they're taking, but tbh I find it infinitely more interesting than realistic style shooter #410429.
