I really enjoyed the demo. There's more emphasis in stealthing about rather than actiony crap in a stealth game this time. It's leagues ahead of Portable Ops. The game is just great, and I can see Co-op being heaps of fun as well; controls go in the direction of Syphon Filter, but the old PO controls are there too if you want them; the one major change up is being unable to move while going prone or while pressed against the wall. Those two things are more to add to your camo index than anything else. This game is, like, a pretty decent reason to own a PSP.

Apparently only 50 in Australia - so get in quick.
I do not have a PSP so I did not order.
wouldn't this go in handheld general?
Anyhow - After seeing the incredibly positive reviews of Peace Walker, I decided it was about time i catch up on the MGS series, playing through and around 70% through MGS: twin snakes and got my copies of MGS2 and 3 ready to go! **** it's awesome.

No? Peace Walker isn't on DS.
Edit: Oh I getcha, I actually don't know since I never go into the HH forum :p
well yeah, it seems an unwritten rule of sorts that handheld games all go in HH general for some reason, regardless of exclusivity.
Also lol, I wasn't 70% into MGS:TS. I was right near the ending. Wanky dialog to end it all, but **** i loved the game as a whole.

Have you played the original MGS? It doesn't play as well or look as nice, but as a whole it's a nicer package than Twin Snakes.
And I picked up a PSP just for Peace Walker, glad I did, it's on the right path to being one of my favourite games of all time.

If anyone was so inclined, you could get Peace Walker right now by DLing it from the PlayStation store.
I was all like WOOAAHh, I could get it right now!
Then I was all like WOOAAHHH, same price as retail. Eat my sticks.

Huh? How, when TS is a remake/update of the original?

I gotta say it's all because of the changes they made to the cutscenes and the re-recorded voice acting just didn't hit the same notes, plus I swear a few of the voice actors were different.

The Asian chick that saves your game had her voice changed to the actress used later in mgs4.
I thought the cutscenes were better in the original, no dumb shit like round housing a rocket (IIRC)

No she didn't. It was the same actress in every game (including Smash Bros. Brawl). She lost the accent from MGS though.
Yeah, I did find the cutscenes to be a little wanky and over the top, but overall i still thought it was damn awesome.
edit: also, kinda wondering if i can just skip MGS2 and go straight to 3. is 2 worth playing?

2 is okaaaayyy. You should play it.
Eh, ok. I'm not long after fighting the first boss, the russian chick, but i don't seem to be quite "hooked" yet.

If you skip MGS2, you will never go back. Just put up with the albino emo.
MGS3 will make it look like piddle, though.

Sons of Liberty > Snake Eater
Sons of Liberty is a ****ing masterpiece, it's just misunderstood and its brilliance is wasted on the morons who play video games.

MGS2 is definitely worth playing.
I think it's a necessity to play through each of the main games to fully experience the series (you could probably get away without playing the original Metal Gear games though).
Shit, now I want to play MGS2 again.

Of course it's worth playing, it's both brilliant and a masterpiece. Don't play the substance version though, little changes kill the game.

This game is ****ing amazing. It's been tweaked to perfection since the demo. Cutscenes are so damn cool! Subtitles have been replaced with speech bubbles to give the impression of an animated comic, the voice acting in general is downright the best I've heard in the MGS series. QTE's have been thrown into cut scenes as well [Eat that as you will, I feel it's added really well] sometimes it's just interactive in general and lets you observe a character. Plus holding down left trigger at any time lets you zoom in an pan about the picture MGS3 style.
Some gameplay changes:
- Pausing now actually pauses, compared to not 'pausing real life' in the demo.
- While the select button still toggles a solid lock on, during manual aim mode the cursor will lock onto specific body parts if you're aiming close enough. A faded cursor shows where your true aim is while a highlighted cursor acts as the lock on cursor.
- I didn't know how RPG this was going to get. Now when you finish a mission you receive exp for items and they go up in ranks. There are also 'heroism' points, what they apply to, I'manono.
- Also, mostly a tweak, taking down multiple hostiles in CQC is much smoother; the indicator pops up earlier and points out how many take downs you've performed in a row [I'm guessing there's a limit].
That's just a comparison between the demo and the first 30 minutes of gameplay. Is gewd fun. Yew'll love it.
Edit> By the way chaps, there is an install the make loading less grinding. Two, in fact. You can choose between large or small. Large has something to do with adding voice to codec calls, or something. Small is approximately 330 megs while large is 840 megs. Just a thing to be aware of before firing the game up. Of course, you can play without an install at all.

For anyone who's playing, if you've had a Unique Female character join MSF you can get a model viewer of the character. Jiggle physics from MGS3 made it in ^.^

I enjoyed it but not to the same degree as other entries. Snake Eater is easily my favourite of the series.
Damn thing made me cry at the end. Cry I tell you!

2 is only worth playing if you plan on playing 4 sometime down the road. 3 is largely self-contained (and ****ing owns).

It is also worth playing if you get into MGS lore. A lot of essential story elements happen during MGS 2, particularly in relation to Geroge Sears - who is a fairly significant character in the overarching storyline despite his only personal appearance occurring in the second game.
