Infamous 2 was recently announced at E3 with a tentative "2011" release date. The game itself will be an open world, third-person superhero game like the first, but set in a new city with a redesigned Cole (including different look and voice actor) battling the Beast.
Based on what the trailer has shown, it's looking good although I don't particularly care for the new Cole. Still, if it turns out as good as the first game, I'll be putting my money down.

What the hell was wrong with the old Cole?
Still I loved the first one (even though I never found the final shard dammit!) and the city certainly looks a lot more alive in the sequel

The beast thing will appear in this game? I thought they were aiming for a trilogy?
Either way the sooner this comes out the better - I thought inFamous was unreal. I hoping to play thru it again as evil and get more trophies.

Woo! They specifically mentioned in a gamespot article that the final look of Cole is not set in stone. Seems they're aware of everyone hating it, so with luck we'll have something a bit better by the end.

Well, unless I2: Electricity Day is significantly better than the first one, or has some major changes I'll be giving it a miss.
Enjoyed the game, but overall found it more frustrating than fun to play. Some games I don't mind so much when they are furstrating / full of cheap deaths. eg Spider-Man games - I like the character and look over the flaws of the various games so get a good all around experience playing it, it's 'fun'.
With Infamous I did not like ANY of the characters, epecially the idiot side-kick with the annoying voice. The combat / powers were interesting but ultimately unfulfilling for me (more irratation than fun).
The end part of the game got really boring, I hated the stupid stupid balloon missions.
Instead of a true test of your ablilites and skill as a gamer, those balloon missions were just tedium. Like somebody designed a mission just to frustrate (rather than cahllenge) people.
Also, I got sick to death of dying from enemies sniping you from 10,000 miles away, who you were generally unable to hit with your range (other than the zoom in move, which is not practical when you just want to pass through an area).
FYI - Yes I played it to the end, but not a second time with the other alignment as the thought of it was too painfully boring to bother. Yes it's a good game, I'm just saying what I did not like, there was plenty of good stuff too.

I know that's the point, they could improve it as the series goes on, by Infamous 5 Cole will have an outfit that makes Batman look like a hobo. And it makes sense, imagine if you will, you one day attain super powers. After messing around for a while, the next thing your going to do is design yourself a crappy costume.

So the game is pretty great. If you didn't like inFAMOUS the first time around inFAMOUS 2 isn't going to change your mind, but otherwise it seems to be a great sequel so far.
The graphics and presentation are significantly better and the changes they've made to the way powers and their upgrades work are great. It's great being able to quickly change between different powers mapped on different buttons. By holding the left button on the d-pad you can quickly pause the action and cycle through the various abilities available to you by pressing their corresponding button. In inFAMOUS when you obtained a new version of your standard bolt that's what you were stuck with, now you can quickly switch between different versions of your bolt by holding left and pressing R1. You might find some versions of your powers to be your favourites, but Sucker Punch have done a good job making these variations useful in their own ways. Want to quickly break up a group of enemies with your bolt? Switch to Skull Bolt and your headshots will result in explosions. Need more range? Switch to artillery bolt and fire away.
Stunts are now an important part of unlocking powers rather than being a frivolous feature and slight exp incentive to mix up your play when in a firefight. Beyond the powers you gain at certain story points, as you play you'll reach certain points where new versions of your different powers become available. Before you can unlock them with exp, however, you'll often need to perform a particular stunt or multiple stunts. That might sound annoying, but I appreciate the fact that it feels more like you're earning these abilities and it's a nice incentive to go off and fight off some militia/cause some trouble - these stunts will also often be performed without you even trying as well, so if you just want to continue with the story/side missions chances are you'll hit the requirements anyway if you're taking advantage of the mixture of Cole's abilities.
Karma is still a cartoonish good/evil dynamic with choices often heavily telegraphed to you, and if you're looking for a deep sense of consequence you'll be disappointed. However it's a better implemented feature this time around, choices often feel more natural and have a better fit in the story - aided by the fact that Cole is dealing with a pair of characters that represent each side. Nix almost feels like a devil on Cole's shoulder encouraging him when he causes trouble and providing opportunities to revel in some destructive mischief.
Characters like Zeke feel a bit better written, if you couldn't stand his voice acting before though it's not any different this time around. In general the game seems better written than its predecessor - not to set any high expectations, though, it's typical videogame fare. That said, I'm still finding it interesting and after starting with a bang it has a slow burn going on right now that I'm appreciating as it brings together Cole's quest to become stronger, the Beast's impending arrival in New Marais (leaving a trail of destruction along the US's east coast that you're reminded of every time you see the pause menu), Bertrand and his Militia and the First Sons' activities. Mind you portions of this are told through dead drops - which take the form of carrier pidgeons that you need to shoot down and collect this time around, this doesn't mean they're any harder to find, however. In fact it feels less like you have to actively seek them out, rather, they'll often show up on your radar as you hunt around for blast shards or make your way to your next mission. TV shows also make a welcome return with PSA-style broadcasts from the militia and live-action news reports on the Beast's devastation of the East Coast as well as smaller story threads that help flesh out the world you're inhabiting. Thankfully the news reports will appear in the upper right corner of the screen when you come across one, allowing you to continue with what you were doing rather than requiring you to stay in front of a TV. Bertrand's broadcasts don't do this, however, but said broadcasts aren't as important to the events of the game and just add some flavour to New Marais through propaganda.
New Marais is also an improvement, with much more interesting and detailed environments like the red light district and often a nicer colour pallete than the significant amount of greys found in Empire city. The city is also filled with some amusing signs and storefronts for those that stop to appreciate some of the detail. There is also a nice variety of good/bad events for you to take part in that appear on your radar such as stopping muggings, silencing protestors and street performers (including human statues), defusing bombs. They're quick, optional distractions that are a welcome addition like Red Dead Redemption's dynamic encounters, that said, they suffer from the same sort of repetition.
So, in case you couldn't tell from the lengthy post, I'm really enjoying the game. I strongly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the first title. inFamous 2 doesn't quite make good on the potential of its predecessor the same way Uncharted 2 did with Drake's Fortune but it's definitely a bigger and better game. It's great to see Sucker Punch continue to deliver like this.

John gives Cole his power. Cole and Kuo start travelling through the country curing infected conduits, annihilating those that don't have the potential for super-powers in the process. Cole is now the Beast, basically.

I dunno, a game set in the aftermath of the bad karma ending could be pretty cool.
Cole/Kuo/the conduits vs. the remants of mankind and its military, Sucker Punch could come up with some bullshit excuse to strip Cole of his powers. Or maybe they could have inFamous 3 pick up from the good ending with a multiplayer mode set after the evil ending.

I was a little confused with the ending also. I finished as good Cole and now he's dead. However as the screen was fading to black with Zeke sailing out to sea a lightning bolt seemed to strike the boat. Maybe that will be the catalyst for a Cole revival should there be an Infamous 3?
