View Full Version : What would you like to see in Hyper..
REQUIEM

Since there has been some requests as of late of what should be in or back in Hyper I thought why not give it a thread to do so. Since there has been a big change internally at Hyper it might freshen up the mag to receive some input.
I would like to see the return of " The WOW Chronicles ". I for one really enjoyed them and was sad to see them leave the publication. Now since Cataclysm is around the corner peoples interest in WOW will increase also IMO.

Definately a regular section where retro games are treated respectfully.

I totally agree, Retro is the new king. And a special section dedicated to indie developers like pom-pom games ( Mutant Storm, Astro tripper ) and JohnWizard ( Dawn's Light, Curse of the Immortals ) would be lovely too with a 6 pack in the evenings.

White ones provide the horse equivalent of the 'Snow Queen' when used with Siberian Russia. The black ones are perfect for those nice warm shots, like during Mongolian summers.
Oh and then there's the Golden Stallions. Perfect if you wish to have a shoot in the tropics.

I would not mind such a feature, as long as it did something different.
A focus on retro "australian" games would be a good start, and could be a natural progression / expansion of the current "in our fair land" bit.
I already buy Retro Gamer and Games TM - which have plenty of Retro Content (I know that other folk may not buy them, but these mags do "retro" better than anyone else imo).
I'm not shooting down the idea, but I'd like to see something different - and not just a "me too" section cos other mags have 'retro' content.
What I mean is hyper is at it's best when it does it's own thing, and does not try to ape other magazines / websites.

No disrespect intended, but why not the same format with a different MMO? WOW has been written about to death (well, their will still be features on it 10 years from now considering it's place in the pantheon of gaming) but why not one of the various new-ish MMOs?

Name another MMO that has the broad appeal that WoW has, though.
AranchineD

Which makes the whole point of writing about WoW stupid, because a lot of people would know about it already.
yeah, who the **** writes about subjects lots of people are interested in any more?

I still play it much to the mrs annoyance and just enjoyed reading about someone elses experiences in the game. Hey I wouldnt mind any MMO as it would give me a chance to feel what they are like without having to play it. I have heard Star Trek Online is going to be free to play until Level cap so I might give that a whirl but really one addictive MMO is all i have time to play.

You appear to have equated 'a subject everyone already knows about' with 'a subject everyone is interested in.'
Would you like some help with that?

I always thought a weekly column on Video Games and Philosophy would be good. Each month you could look at the philosophy behind different video games. One month would go into the connections between Bioshock and the works of Ayn Rand. Another month could go into moral choices of games like 'Mass Effect'. What do you think?

Stevorooni
29-06-2010, 10:58 AM
Obviously the map would have to lead to real treasure.
Then when we all get there it'll be like a hyper meet except we beat each other to death with shovels while trying to claim the treasure. So exactly like a Hyper meet then.

I don't play MMO's, and have no real interest in reading about them. It was just a suggestion.
I don't know enough about MMO's to suggest any other, I only know that Hyper has already had done a fair bit on WOW, and it could not hurt to try something different.
If enough people want that section back though, they should speak up ask for it.

Its like they have been bought out by the ABC and will be sharing the spot light with Good Game. Thats my main reason for not liking it as it sounds unoriginal and too samey.
How about a Hyper Reader Game Review. You could make the guidelines simple like maximum word length and deadlines etc but since you guys review games late in comparison its not like none of us have played the game a month before you guys review it. I know it wouldnt work on every game but Im sure it could be looked into. Just an idea.

If Hyper has regular reviews of games for mobile phones etc, I'd like to see the same scoring system in the main game reviews implemented for the mobile reviews. The old section seemed too much like ads for games on mobile phones, giving generic information and no real criticism.
You know, like a bland in-store video rental magazine where everything is 'good'.
So mobile reviews , with scoring please (if they get coverage).

Yeah I agree mobile games should get rated too.
I agree with your comment on the mag layout, it's the one thing that I really didn't like about the issue. Can't say I got any "anti-console/ pro PC" attitude from reading it though.
I didn't think the whole mag was anti console/pro PC, just those particular comments irked me.

Much like your mum's custom-embroided string bikini and Prostitutes Collective membership card, it is a traditional, well-known part of her entire package but is not in of itself a trademarked entity.
