This is currently my top contender for game of the year. Easily one of the best Wii games ever made.
Probably the first time a Treasure sequel has managed to be even better than the (already completely awesome) original.
The thing that I love most about it is that it's the first game I've played in a very long time where the Wiimote/Nunchuck combination feels like how the game should be played, rather than hacked on at the last minute. The game supports classic controller and GC controller, but it's absolutely meant to be played with the Wiimote/Nunchuck.
Also, the correct title is Sin And Punishment: Successor of the Skies, not Star Successor, which is a translation of the Japanese title.
Absolutely loving it. The game seems to be able to cater to both the hardcore shooter demographic as well as the more casual demographic. How? The game is tough as hell if you want to beat it without losing a life. Hardcore players would be doing this, as dieing results in a score reset. However, a casual player can just keep retrying, starting up a boss or other sequence with full health and a better idea of what to do.
The switching between all-out insane spamming of the screen trying to knock off as many enemies in the huge swarms to precision firing to try and hit one thing while not trying to hit the other thing that'll kill you if you do, as well as shifts in depth from away from the screen to a more side-scroller look is done in such a way that the combat just feels constantly fresh, engaging and ****ing awesome.
edit: Also, I can't help but feel a bit of a missed opportunity here. This game would be one of the greatest games to play in 3D. It already works beautifully in 2D, but having the foreground actually be even more distinguishable as a foreground that pops out a little would make the game truly gorgeous. It'd also make it a slight bit easier to tell if an enemy has shifted far enough out of the background into the foreground to be close enough to melee.

I played through the story mode (normal mode) ... it was an awesome ride and man is it tough .. there's a lot of replay value here for those who want to continue to chain there combos and increase their score. And yeah needs Wiimote aiming :p
Is the game hard?
I'm on some boss right now near the end I think. There's arrays of troops, mechs, rockets and lasers all firing at me at once. It's ****ing hard, intense and the most fun i've had in a game in ages :D
also, I'm playing on medium atm.
edit: THAT WAS JUST PHASE ONE??!??!?

Wii owners owe it to themselves to get this game. If you haven't imported S&P2, you are missing out on one of the best Wii releases this year.
I stopped playing this when I was up to something like the last phase of the final boss or something. I can't remember how to play well enough to actually finish it now without starting again :(
