Hey, just finished Mass Effect and thought it was one of the best stories in a game that I have played. Just wondering if there were any other games out there that you might recommend (I love games to be like epic novels)
Crackdown 1 & 2.
Alone, they are nothing but together they're like a sonata.

Mass Effect 1 & 2 (& most likely 3); not only the best story on the 360 but best story this gen imo.
Alan Wake was quite good. Lost Odyssey deserves a mention due to the short stories.

+1 for Mass Effect.
My favourite piece of fiction of the last 5 years at least

So these don't need to be exclusive 360 titles, do they?

Without a doubt Forza 3, talking about cars has never felt more compelling and engaging.

FX-GTZ is a troll. There is no other way to explain it.

I've played all those except Lost Odyssey. I might have to pick it up. I was definitely impressed by Mass Effect. I don't want to play the sequel right away. I want some time to pass so that I can play it as if I'm coming back to the fresh.
Is Dragon Age: Origins any good?

Bioshock!
The darkness was pretty good to.
And then mass effect(s) of course. 1>2.

Bioshock's definitely in the discussion.

Grand Theft Auto IV and Braid are also fantastic (although Braid's 'story' unfolds in a rather abstract fashion, so really it's the telling of the story rather than the story itself that deserves praise).

The Darkness was super cool. Brilliant voice acting too, and MoCapped breakdancers.

Since this is not Xbox 360 exclusive why not make an equivalent in General Gaming? Or just trying to avoid the PS3 exclusive games?
Batman Arkham was a great story if you are a Batman fan.
Red Dead has one of the best exposition in game in quite some time.
Despite the flaws and slow start Mass Effect was very engaging and I hear #2 is better.

Errr.... in terms of overall plot, hardly.

Mass Effect certainly has a better story, but thanks to the loyalty missions you could probably argue that Mass Effect 2 has a more interesting narrative.

I thought the overall plot was fine, it's just that ME2's story plays out more like a series (each mission is almost like a somewhat self-contained episode) rather than a big epic like ME.

The 'plot' in Mass Effect 2 is weaker. The story in regards to every single other element (environment, characters, setting) is a billion times stronger.

Crap sorry I meant in terms of the game....
ME2 feels very much like it's putting things in place for ME3. It was less satisfying in terms of overall narrative resolution but it's certainly left me more excited for the sequel than the first one did. I can't wait for it.

You can distinguish between overall plot and delivery. ME has better overall plot, but I think ME2 delivers it better (partially because it's the far better game!)
Chronicles of Riddick, though a remake, is worth owning, especially if you've never played it. I haven't played Dark Athena yet but Escape From Butcher Bay is brilliant.
Dragon Age is a good story, took me ages to get a grip on the gameplay though. Hold left trigger to pause, left / right bumper to change character selection, cone of cold, cone of cold, cone of cold. For sixty hours, take a thermos.
Bioshock takes my Best Story prize for having perhaps three original elements to it and a fantastic vocal performance from (antagonist?) Andrew Ryan.
However, if Mass Effect had the gameplay of Mass Effect 2 I'd crown it winner.

Where does this thread say rate the overall experience of story and gameplay aub?
You need only rate on story.

mass effect ... I think when that game came out in 2007 i stayed at home 3 days straight to finish it... its probably one of the few games that I really wanted to finish. how ever that prince of persia (the animated odd one out ) on 360 had a good story too but the art direction was fantastic.

"Blast off and strike the evil Bydo Empire!"
That's the story. No missing girlfriends, no distressed mayors, just "hey, kill those guys".

I thought Dragon Age had a wicked storyline.
Mass Effect 2. How could anyone even dispute this? Really?

Probably Lost Odyssey. I need to play more games on the 360 though. I did like the original Mass Effect story, but it was over too quickly for me to get attached to any of the characters aside from Tali and Garrus.

My choice would be Mass Effect 1 and 2 (as a combined story) and Lost Odyssey. Those 2 stories are my favourites out of what I've played on the 360.

I did exactly the same thing with GTAIV (finished it right before Lost and Damned came out), but didnt have the same problem with RDR, I paused for about a week when I was near the end, but then got back into it and polished it off. I've been playing it a bit recently too, having lots of fun finishing off strangers tasks, outfits and the ambient quests.

It's all BC2's fault. I'll fire up the box with the intention of playing through something, then I'll see a couple of people playing Rush, and join for a few rounds.

I really should get around to playing Lost Odyssey, you people seem to think it's pretty good. :p
I'll put another vote in for Mass Effect 1 + 2 though.
