Well, apparently by the time you read this Microsoft will have announced Halo 4, it's just that they happened to accidentally upload the post-conference material to their website BEFORE the conference (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-06-06-halo-4-confirmed-by-microsoft), not after.

343 Industries, Microsoft's in house dudes that took over the Halo franchise. Haven't done anything of note yet.

As someone who has never really played any Halo apart from a little bit of multiplayer at someones house I might give this a go. Especially if it is the start of a new trilogy and does not require me to play the first 3. Although I might give the Halo remake a go and see if I like it.

I know that Cortana is some kind of important thing, and that was her at the start of the trailer (I think?), so I'm going to guess some back knowledge would help.

The teaser is picking up right from the ending of Halo 3.

Playing a Halo without convenant will be interesting.

It is a 'new trilogy', so maybe back knowledge isn't necessary.

Still VanAce they are re-releasing the first Halo, maybe try that out (if it's not overpriced as all hell).

Assuming there are no Covenant. Now, clearly I have no idea of the plot line, but I would assume the Covenant play a big role. No army like that would just lay down arms because their leaders are dead.

Reach is a prequel. Halo 4 continues the Master Cheifs story.

I doubt there will be Covenant, it seems to me they're using the Halo 3 Legendary ending to give Master Chief a brand new enemy to fight.

The Forerunner planet/installation/thing that Chief was heading toward will have a major part in the game, but I don't see the Covenant being left completely out. Or the Flood for that matter. Fan service will dictate that we want to know what's happening with the end of the Human/Covenant war. Wars just don't all of a sudden end.

They've got a lot to play with, but as we essentially have three more games coming our way I think things will build. But the Covenant aren't out of it by any means IMO.

I want to play as Cortana with the ability to control a variety of mechs and super-hacking ability.

Remember the SNES game Shadowrun how there was a puzzle to solve on PCs? They should incorporate something like that to break up the FPS shooting, with a slight nod to TRON.

Perhaps it can be the prequel to the prequel of Halo?

Looking at what they have shown at e3 this year Halo 4 look like it has borrowed elements from Metroid Prime. Not a bad thing at all as I really enjoyed Metroid Prime.

I only got half way through Reach because I got bored of it. I look forward to Halo 4, hopefully it's less like half assed CoD and more like, you know, Halo.

I'm keen after hearing how good it supposedly is. Here's hoping there's no Flood this time.

My only gripe so far is the crouch button isn't attached to the left stick and instead to the B button. I can't find a button layout from th presets that isn't similar to Halo 3.

aubergine

They don't have a scheme that has sprint on the left stick and reload/use on the right bumper, and crouch on the left stick is a pain in the arse.

I'm up to the bit that starts in a jungle, very enjoyable so far.

I think calling it COD Space isn't fair, I played a hot of modern warfare and Black ops single Player and they bored me senseless.

Had a brief go at multi, enjoyed going back to valhalla, was terrible at it though, matchmaking performance is squiffy and preferred the old / simple interfaces from bungie era. Wasn't obvious how to make a party or anything, though I didnt look hard.

Yeah probably, I literally only played a few minutes before work (up to dodging things in an elevator). Can't wait to play more.

I'd also say that criticizing something for CoD influence is a empty a critiquing CoD and every other game for its Halo influence. The FPS genre is a conversation between many different games - and some members of those conversations are eloquent on the subject and others are like those people who can only talk in Simpsons quotes. I'm not going to put Halo 4 down for using Metroid Prime for the music, environment and enemy design.

When you first fight the Ing I was like "It's the Ing" but also "It's the Ing!"

Yeah probably, I literally only played a few minutes before work (up to dodging things in an elevator). Can't wait to play more.

Just on that, a quick-time-event at the top meant I had to climb that stupid thing a second time, which gave me an ill feeling, but it hasn't happened again. I think that is there purely to let you know they ****ed with the placement of the melee button.

My only major problem with the game is there's no control option with sprint on left stick and reload/action on right bumper.

Have played a bit of multiplayer (SR11) and while enjoying it I miss the deathmatch style weapon placement. Loadouts are fine (as in Reach) but they should still have some regular drops instead of the seemingly random map ordnance.

Half expecting a Halo 2 style cliffhanger given how the story is ramping up with only a few missions remaining.

Clocked the campaign last night in a little over 7 hours for heroic. Ending was pretty lame and the story was as nonsensical as ever.
Was hoping Cortana would go a bit more crazy than she did but I guess they are saving that for later instalments.

Will probably give Spartan Ops a go tonight and put off the legendary run until later.

EDIT: Just read the plot summary on wikipedia. Unsure how I was supposed to understand all that from how it was presented in game but at least I have an idea of what actually happened.

Multiplayer is great fun but I wish there were double the maps as it gets a bit stale only having 5 maps for Slayer and 5 (more like 2) for BTB.

SOX

5 small, 5 large. So 10 currently but only 5 depending on the playlist and considering you vote on 1/3 per game there's not much diversity.

Halo 4 is great, there were so many bits i truly loved but then i must say i was very disappointed with the final stage. the beginning was truly awesome but the actual grind of getting to the end was uneventful and ultimately unrewarding as was the final confrontation.

that said from the start all the way through it was exciting and fun. i just wish there was more openness to the battles. it all felt very linear. i liked halo CEs sense of space.

and worst of all, i do prefer the flood as a secondary enemy

I think I prefer the multiplayer in previous games, I'm not sure how I feel about the way this game handles power weapons. Seems like the game doesn't have much in the way really good maps, Haven, Complex and Exile seem like the only new standouts. Vortex is alright. It's still Halo multiplayer and so it's a lot of fun, but it seems like it's perhaps the worst offering in the series.

SOX

I'm a few ranks behind you Natrak (only 27) and still enjoying it.
Loving Haven, Abandon and Complex and haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate Adrift. A bit of variety would be nice so that first map pack can't come soon enough.

What's your default load out currently?

I've been using:

Plasma Pistol
Pulse Grenades
Thruster Pack

How are you guys liking the multiplayer so far?

My favourite mode is just straight up Infinity Slayer (4v4) with a little bit of BTB thrown in if I'm after some chaos.
Spartan Ops is a totally throwaway and I wish they went for a more robust firefight mode with an actual fail condition. I've only been doing it so far for the easy xp.
