Welcome to the Retroactive Mystery Screenshot Thread!
The rules are simple - One person posts a screenshot of a game (anything from the Dreamcast or earlier) and the first person to guess it can post a screenie of their own.

I think it's been on multiple sytems but I've only played it on the PC. Err...clues...
It's listed on www.the-underdogs.org and it's one of the greatest puzzle games ever made.

No, that would be logical as there's a marked difference between the first and second Double Dragon games.

It was Raiden Fighters Jet, though I would have accepted Raiden Fighters.
The Raiden Fighters series is so far beyond the original Raiden that I (as do many others) consider them separate.

I'll give this until late this evening before I pass it on to anyone else.
It really isn't that hard though.
More clues:
Game is considered the first game of its kind. A version of it was released for the Saturn. It's emulated in MAME, however the emulation lacks sound due to the encrypted sound chip. It was made by a group of people within the company that would later form their own company and produce more games of this style.

Also, I've picked shmups that are very well-known in the mainstream. These are the kind of shmups you namecheck just to say you know what shmups are. R-Type, Gradius, Parodius, Battle Garegga, Batsugun, Strikers 1945, Ikaruga and [this game].
It's like namechecking Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Tales of Phantasia and Earthbound just so you can say you know what an RPG is.
It's by the people who made Batsugun, incidentally, but after Toaplan went bankrupt, they formed their own company. This game is the sequel to their first post-Toaplan game, and has a similar title that doesn't involve numbers.
There are four games in the series, the most recent having received a PS2 release. The series is famous for its bright pink bullets of doom. This particular episode is considered the absolute epitome of manic shmup design.
It was released on PSX and Saturn. It's name translates as "The Way of Shooting Bees".

Apidya was a side-scrolling shooter, not vertical, though.
It was pretty bloody good.
This game is famous for one other thing: it's unique scoring system which required the player to score combo hits for maximum points.

The 'pink bullets' phrase got a hit on Google, and I came up with Dodonpachi.
Though I have heard the name in passing, I've never played it.

It is indeed Cave's legendary 1996 manic-shmup-from-hell, DoDonPachi.
The screenshot is from the "true" final boss battle, and about 1 second after what you see there, the screen is 80% pink bullets.

Ok if anyone asks me a question about the game with a yes/no answer, I'll answer. I've played the game a million times but can barely remember that screenie myself.
It was confidential mission. Whoever posts in this thread can go next. I think I'm gonna take a break from these forums for a couple of weeks.
