Oh hey sorry I got called in yesterday so I was only on here to check my sales and then I was working all day today so I have yet to check the Heracross sorry anyway are you free around 9-9:30 tonight by any chance?
Heracross! It's a lamish nature, I'm afraid, -Spd it is, (sorry I bred three but it was the only good IVd one!) but it's female (yay!) and has a 30 in attack, and a 27 in speed! Let me know when you want to trade, and sorry for the delay ~o~ I'm free whenever!
All good. I'm going to assume you're not around, but if you are shoot me a PM otherwise we'll organise it tomorrow or something.
Sucks about the Heracross, female with a poor nature's not so good since Heracross doesn't really need any of its egg moves and it makes breeding a pain because I can't use an everstoned ditto to pass on a good nature. At least its IVs are good, and I'm not desperate to actually train up a Heracross, just figured it'd be easier to get one in a trade than go and catch one (stupid honey trees).
Edit: oh, you're around, sweet. I'll go grab my DS.

All good, man.
Is the Blissey l33t?
Oh hey Natrak also if you see this we can trade if you like!
Its stats aren't really *that* high. It has 383 (or maybe less) HP, which isn't really that much for a Blissey, is it? I don't get why someone would trade a hacked poke for a real poke if they have an action replay/gameshark?

:O Nice!
I know! I've also caught a few Shiny Raltses now, one of them Male/Adamant, hopefully it has decent IVs.
If anyone wants a shiny Starly give me a yell, I've already EV trained the best of the bunch for myself, there are still 5 others that are jolly, perfect for competitive battling (IVs vary, but they're pretty much average-to-good).
Also, I could really use a heart scale if anyone's got a spare one (cbf digging in the underground atm), my shiny Staraptor evolved at level 35 whilst I was EV training it, so I missed out on it learning Close Combat via level up.

I have a few scales lying around. When you trade me one of those shiny starlies, I'll totally like, trade one in the process.
Anyway, hope there's a poketour this year. I feel like training up a team for a tournament :)
Also, any chance of me getting one of those shiny ralts'? I'll have to do a dig through my boxes sometime to see what I've got. (I started a game of Diamond on my R4 for the extra storage space)

Yeah, sure. Sorry, I only just noticed this thread actually had a new post just now. Btw, guess what my newest chaining project is...Wobbuffet!
I've also now caught a shiny Absol, three shiny Lickitungs and two shiny Magnemites.
I just had a battle for the first time in ages, it was a good one with few ou standards on either team, the game froze up as I was about to claim victory though, ah well. Crit Hax Honchkrow is so much fun when it manages to pull off a kill. :P It was pretty much deadweight, though. It took out my opponent's Gyarados with a crit, however (I tend to have problems with Gyaras) so it did a good job. Kingdra was sweeping like a champ until the dude's Mr. Mime slapped it with a Choice Scarf thanks to trick. <3 Kingdra.

I plan to sell my DS and all my games. I never play it anymore. So, I traded my EV trained pokes as well as some choice rares to 5N1P3R, one of which was my precious Umbreon which I've had since Ruby. It was very emotional. :(

With the pokeradar it's not so much about luck, more about perseverance and entering the right patch of grass every time until you hit a chain of 40 (at which point you can just keep resetting the radar until a shiny patch appears).

For EV training I've found it easiest to do so by battling certain trainers with the right pokemon over and over. Like the guy with 6 magikarps for speed EVs.

:( I wish I still had time to play Pokemon. I love it! Maybe these holidays...
Also, I need to upgrade my DS! I have trouble chaining because my DS Phat isn't bright enough for my eyes to discern between the different type of grass shakes (depending on what environment I'm playing in - sometimes, I can't even see the grass shake at all!)

The Torn World is an entirely new concept within the Pokémon games. Following the legend of Giratina living in another dimension, the game has you enter the Torn World in order to further complete the game. The entrance to the Torn World is placed right at the top of the Spear Pillar. In the games story, Cyrus awakens Dialga & Palkia and their prominence creates a tear in reality and thus the entrance to the Torn World appears. You go in to it and you will immediately discover that the laws of physics are radically different here. http://www.serebii.net/platinum/tornworld.png
The Torn World is designed utilising the DS's 3D capabilities to the extreme. As the laws of physics are different and so you will see the various platforms that you utilise are all at different angles. They are connected by various means allowing for travel but it definitely will be disorientating. There will be many aspects to the Torn World as it is a vast area and even includes surfing paths. However, the true size of it is currently unknown. http://www.serebii.net/platinum/tornworld2.png
As the Torn World is a relatively new aspect of the game and very little is known, we do not yet know if there are going to be any Wild Pokémon roaming this new dimension. However, we do know of one Pokémon you can get in it; http://www.serebii.net/platinum/pokemon/487.png (http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/487.shtml) Giratina - Origin Forme http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/type/ghost.gif http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/type/dragon.gif Level 47 It is also worth noting, that aside from any external influences, Giratina will always transform to its Origin Forme when you enter the Torn World, no matter what its origin isThe new issue of CoroCoro has been revealed and posted on various japanese imageboards. These issues contain many various bits of data, confirming what we expected and providing new tidbits as we go;
Pokémon Platinum is set for a September 13th 2008 release in Japan
You have to face Team Galactic once more, but it seems their plans and HQ have been stepped up a fair bit
The Battle Frontier returns and takes place in the Fight Area in Sinnoh. There are different areas in the Battle Frontier, their battle quirks are not yet known. However, it does still contain the Battle Tower
The WiFi area has been enhanced with various areas which support up to 20 people at any one time
The Poffin making has taken a step up and has a new feature that involves a Swalot machine. You essentially throw berries into its mouth. This can be done over WiFi in the new WiFi area
The Battle Recorder, an item seen on the Shaymin pictures last week, allows you to record battles that you hold and share them with your friends. This is done at the new & improved GTS in Jubilife City, which has a bigger global terminal
There is also confirmation of the Shaymin form changes and a note about the Giratina ones. It appears that like in the movie, Giratina's Origin Forme can only be used in the Torn World, and its in its Another Forme elsewhere. It is unknown if there will be an item to use to keep it in its Origin Forme, but the main method will be revealed next month
Shaymin Sky Forme's ability is Serene Grace. It appears to be more focused in Speed and Special Attack and knows the move Air Slash.
Giratina's Origin Forme's ability is Levitate.
The pictures also indicate and confirm new sprites for each Pokémon including Bidoof, Giratina's Another Forme & Shaymin's Land Forme
Confirmation of the new characters shown last month, one is a member of Team Galactic, and the other is part of an international police force and is hunting Team Galactic[/quote]Like with Pokémon Crystal & Emerald, Pokémon Platinum builds upon the story of its predecessor by adding various new aspects. One of them are various new characters which enter the game and have various different additions to the plotline. At time of writing, only two of the major new characters have been revealed and their true purpose and extent within the story is not yet known and even their names are not known yet. Below is the data that we know of them;
International Police OfficerThe first character of note is this police officer. He is investigating the goings on in Sinnoh; The Climate has got cooler and Team Galactic's operations have seemed to pick up. You seem to meet up with him at several points within the game, however it is unknown if you will battle with him at your side or that he even has any Pokémon.
http://www.serebii.net/platinum/internationalpolice.png
Team Galactic ProfessorThe next character appears to be a Professor within Team Galactic. His true motives and schemes are unknown at time of writing, but chances are you will end up battling him at some point during the game.

The Battle Frontier, an area that originated in Pokémon Emerald makes a triumphant return in Pokémon Platinum. Situated in the Fight Area of Sinnoh, the Battle Frontier now only has 5 facilities within it as opposed to the seven original ones. Not much is currently known about the facilities apart from a coup,e but one does look like a Prinplup's head
http://www.serebii.net/platinum/bf-map-th.png (http://www.serebii.net/platinum/bf-map.jpg) The first facility that we saw is the castle like area in the Battle Frontier. Not much is known about the battling style here yet.
http://www.serebii.net/platinum/castle.png
The final facility is the Battle Tower. It is likely that the Battle Tower here will keep the same features that were within the Battle Tower in Diamond & Pearl. Specifically;
- Standard - Single Battle
- Standard - Double Battle
- Multi Battle
- WiFi Battle
It is also currently unknown if Palmer will return to the Battle Tower as the Tower Tycoon
Note; Diamond/Pearl picture of Battle Tower currently used until release
http://www.serebii.net/diamondpearl/tower.png
Battle Shops
Like in past games, battling in the Battle Frontier and the Battle Tower earns you Battle Points. These can be saved up and then spent on various items in the various stalls placed around the Battle Frontier. We will provide lists of the items when the game is available
http://www.serebii.net/platinum/battlefrontier3.pngThe WiFi features were first implemented in Diamond & Pearl as a method of simply battling and trading with your friends over the internet. However, Pokémon Platinum takes these features and fully expands them. Below are the details of these expansions
Standard WiFi
When you go downstairs in the Pokémon Centers in Platinum, next to the area where you have the attendant that lets you trade and battle with your friends, you will find a new attendant and another door. In here you will find the new WiFi club. The WiFi club is a new area that has many different activities that you and up to 19 other people can experience at the same time
http://www.serebii.net/platinum/wifi.png For example, making Poffin can now also be done over WiFi as opposed to just over Wireless. This time it is done through a new Mini-Game involving throwing Berries at a Swalot machine. If you succeed you get higher points and better Poffin for your Pokémon. There is set to be many many more areas for you to utilise in the new WiFi Club all of which work similar to this. We'll bring more on them as and when we get the information
http://www.serebii.net/platinum/swalot.png Global Trading System
The Global Trading System has also had a massive tune-up in Pokémon Platinum. In addition to the trading of Pokémon in the same manner as Diamond & Pearl, the GTS also has many new features in the form of a Global Terminal
http://www.serebii.net/platinum/gts.png It is currently unknown what the Global Terminal does in Platinum. However, it requires use of in-game computers upon various levels of the GTS. However, part of it is likely to utilise the new Battle Recorder...
http://www.serebii.net/platinum/computer.png The Battle Recorder is a new item obtained in Pokémon Platinum that allows you to record your battles. Whether they're online battles or in-game battles is currently unknown. There appear to be several modes of the Battle Recorder. It is likely there is a mode in the Global Terminal that allows you to send out your battles and receive battle recordings from your friends. In Browser Mode, which allows the item's use outside the GTS, you can view your own battles and battles your friends have sent you as well as expunge any battles you do not wish to keep.

Wow, once again, we see that the Pokemon series, usually the pinnacle of non-evolution in terms of gameplay and style (though I must admit I'm glad they haven't changed things up >_>) pushes through ahead of the standards set by Diamond and Pearl as the most comprehensive, in-depth online game developed by Nintendo! Impressive!
I just may get this one - the first time I've gotten one of these "third" games.

I'm surprised you didn't pick up Emerald, man, seeing how Emerald is like one big metagame lover's orgasm (I know if I had have been into pokemon hardcore during the GBA games I would have picked up Emerald). :P
Hopefully it has the kind of sweet stuff Emerald did, like move tutors and that guy who can tell you if your pokemon have good ivs. The Battle Frontier's a good sign.
There better be a way to get Giratina to remain in origin form, otherwise it's entirely useless. :(

Anyone know if you can catch Feebas before the elite four, and using a old or good rod?
Obviously it's possible to catch them after beating the elite four, and using a super rod. Though im trying to obtain one prior to the Elite Four and while searching for various answers on the internet all I find are different answers that contradict one another. I just don't want to spend another couple of hours searching for no reason.
Natrak
30-09-2008, 05:30 PM
You can find them in Mt. Coronet, so I'm 99% certain you can catch them prior to the Elite 4 - however, I'm sure it doesn't need to be said, but, you can only catch Feebas in 4 different water tiles in the room you use defog in (and those 4 tiles change every day).

I've got the patience to search, so thats not too much of an issue really. I was more concerned in spending the time, only to find out it's only obtainable after the elite four. Im upto the 8th gym nearly though. I kinda like the challenge of catching the rare pokemon, like getting Burmy(although not that hard), and Gible.

Starscream, Soft reseting is a process where you save at a certain point (I'll use pokemon as a reference, But any game qualifies) Such as before you get Darkrai, Now if you want to get the perfect Darkrai all you do is get it, Check if it's the one you want if it is YAY, Keep it. If not just Press L + R + Select + Start and repeat the process.
Really? Thanks for telling us aceaussie!
Yup, I got my dad a timid natured one and my Sister got herself a Modest nature, I myself will get a Timid nature which I'll train and another Timid nature which will remain untouched.

Is anyone looking forward to Pokemon Platinum?
Its already out in Japan and seems to have had fair success there.
I avoided Diamond and Pearl so I'd (hopefully) get a superior game when the special edition came along. Apparently Platinum is a game set in roughly the same universe, but with a new story and a new 'Distortion World" which involves a bit of basic platforming. Only a handful of new pokemon announced, but it does still connect with the GBA games, so thats a plus.
It also heralds the return of the battle tower.
Probably the biggest improvement seems to be to do with the online functions. With trading seemingly drastically improved (it has a kind of ebay search system where you can put out alerts for what you want) and online battles are hoping to find the fairest possible matches.
Also included will be an online lobby system for multiplayer (including mini games) featuring up to 20 people.
Sadly it's known that you are still conformed to a grid when you move on the world map and the battle system is basically the same.
Last edition I thought was notable are the slight changes to monster design. Hopefully for the better.

It is set in an identical universe! The game's the same as D/P bar some small additions!
There are no new Pokemon! Rotom, Shaymin and Giratina all have alternate forms, but that's it.
It also heralds the return of the battle tower.
...which was already present in D/P. There are however some rather large expansions to this particular area of the game.
Probably the biggest improvement seems to be to do with the online functions. With trading seemingly drastically improved (it has a kind of ebay search system where you can put out alerts for what you want)
This was always present in Diamond and Pearl - it is the Global Trade Center. The major change to this in Platinum is that you can now link it with your real life email address, so you get an email when a trade is finished, meaning you don't have to keep checking up on it all the time!
and online battles are hoping to find the fairest possible matches.
This I don't quite understand - you can not, and have never been able to, find random online matches with others in D/P. You can however download room data from random people (their Pokemon, order and movesets) from the battle tower WiFi matches - these are controlled by the computer, though, and aren't an actual battle with a real person.
Also included will be an online lobby system for multiplayer (including mini games) featuring up to 20 people.
Well, you've got something right.
Sadly it's known that you are still conformed to a grid when you move on the world map and the battle system is basically the same.
The battle got a massive shakeup in D/P with the addition of the physical/special move split? Or are you talking about the core mechanics of the battle system, which has not changed?
Last edition I thought was notable are the slight changes to monster design. Hopefully for the better.
...and what the hell is with this? No design has changed at all?

I just bought a DS again and am playing FFTA2, a Pokemon tactics game could possibly work as a franchise expansion.
If a date pops up for this one I'll update the title again. I probably wouldn't mind checking this out as I only ever played "Leaf Green" for a little while. Is Platinum just a sort of best-of Diamond and Pearl, or what? Never understood Nintendo's rationale with pokemon games, just that reviewers always complain they are all the same then give them 10/10.

They've been doing it since day 1. Release two versions of the same game (with a few version only pokemon), then eventually release a third which generally adds some things to the gameplay and kinda combines the two pokemon lists from the other versions whilst leaving some out so people still have to get another version to finish it.
It's a crafty scheme by any means, but boy does it sell.
EDIT: Finally I'm sub 100 in completing my dex :)

How many other titles are they gonna pump out? It just doesn't have the same feel of the pre-Ruby/Sapphire titles...The pokemon appear rushed and ill-thought out and I don't know about you but I feel less connection to them because I'm unfamiliar with them as opposed to ones I've seen in the anime.
Bottom line: Nostalgia rules, the originals are the best, obviously only in it for the money, quantity of pokemon long has overtaken quality.

You can't be serious? The Pokemon in Diamond/Pearl were terrible. Not just the design of the creatures themselves, but their placement over the world was completely borked. You ran into maybe five or ten of the same guys throughout the whole game, then right at the end you get the chance to catch the rest.
Theyve taken a good few baby steps with the series but it think its time to mix tihngs up a little more and ill be interested to see the next set of games.
We need a full 3D Pokemon RPG on the Wii. But they won't do it because they know it'll be too awesome and cut into the sales of the DS titles.

But are you seriously comparing an Empoleon and Gliscar combination to Skarm/Bliss? Seriously!? Furthermore I daresay WhyMe wasn't specifically referring to type coverage.
Shame that Skarm/Bliss are generally thought about when making a team up. Boring Pokemon the both of them.
Nintendo really need to up that stats of some weaker pokemon to even the game out a little. Teams in the Standard tier generally have a few pokemon that just constantly show up.

I realise that. However, it isn't as if Skarm/Bliss is effective now anyway. Pokemon are stronger now than before, so a simple defensive pairing is more than likely unable to stop everything. Is all I'm saying.
And I realise he wasn't specifically referring to type coverage, but sheer coverage isn't exactly a comprehensive term.
For the record, I do not think that Empoleon and Gliscor are necessarily a good pair. I would not use them as a defensive pairing. I brought them up merely to demonstrate that they defend against the most types overall. While in an era past, Skarm/Bliss was the ultimate defensive pairing, today it is not, and you'd be silly to use Skarmory in most instances anyway. That is all.

EDIT: I've got a lvl. 78 shiny Gengar that I want to EV train. I don't know it's IVs, but I figured I may as well start trying to rectify the EV damage I've no doubt inflicted upon it, and see if I can get it to a decent point. What should I do? How do I redistribute its EV points?
I read up how to get a Mew in Red/Blue and it actually worked. Mad skillz but prolly just mad luck/skillz. Pretty easy to catch near the beginning, just google it@!
Now can you tell us how to get Mew from a R/B cartridge to a DS card? :p
No need too. I have 3 Mews on my DS cartridge how cool am I :p
Does anybody even care about Mew anymore? There's so many legendaries nowadays. I'd rathe just have a Mewtwo.

But Mew is so much cuter!!
D:
Anyway, I actually went out and bought Plat. (for $10! I love you JB Hi-Fi and GAME!). I'm not too far into it, as I'm taking my sweet-ass time with it this time around, making sure I catch and train up every pokemon I get (until it evolves), which means a lot of grinding, actually. I still need to find my R4, (which I can now talk about because I own the game legally now, HAH!) and use it to back up my pokemon, and experiment with hacking my R4's Platinum save file, as well as make backups of the pokemon I get in platinum. There's also a tool you can use to see if a Pokemon is legitimate or not, which is quite handy.

Well, Bronze gave me a copy of More Brain Training which I used as trade-bait. My local GAME had a $10 pre-owned copy of Jam Sessions. I just used those two on the JB Hi-Fi 'Free when you trade 2 DS games' offer. EB's one was the game for $20 with 2 DS trade-ins, so don't get it from there if you can help it! :D
I'm hoping the Wi-Fi connection tour has a pokemon tourney again this year- I need to make up for the fact that I was totally whipped by a choice-banding salamence in the first round D:
Oh yeah, and for those who don't know, it looks like the secret Key will be available at the wi-fi connection tour as well. Why they didn't make it a wi-fi event like europe, I'll never know. D:
Whats going to shit me to no end is that im positive theyre not going to let us d/p owners get our hands on shamin/arceus. Ive decided i plan on waiting for the g/s remakes before getting my next pokemon game so i wont get the platinum events.

Apparently we've been ****ed over by the events here because even though Europe's getting theirs soon, we have the US Version, and thus can't get 'em anymore ;_;

We got the US Darkrai event for d/p so I dont see why thats an issue.

how do i find out when the events are coming? the last pokemon event i went to was for mew WAY back in red and blue days
Bulbapedia/serebii will have them in the news sections when theyre announced.
In other news as of last night I have every pokemon except for Manaphy, shaymin and arceus. Congratulations in form of pep are welcome :p

Well, it's most likely we'll be getting movie events- meaning I'll get that blasted movie regigigas. I think it's retarded how they're making events based around having pokemon from SPECIFIC events (ie - movie releases), especially for countries like Australia.
Also, phooey to Nintendo Australia! Instead of doing the SMART thing and releasing the Rotom event over Wi-Fi like Europe has, they're doing it as part of their wi-fi connection tour, which means if you don't live near one of the two locations per state they're visiting, you'll never have a ghost shaped like a lawnmower. (I mean, for Melbournians, this isn't too much of an issue, but I can see a few country-dwellers and residents of larger states getting quite annoyed..)
Either way, truckign thrugh Platinum, though trying to not get too ahead on the story: Currently, I have Turtwig (Keeping him unevolved so he learns earthquake quicker), Luxio, Staraptor, and Kadabra. I'm really liking the expanded sinnoh dex- a lot of my favourite pokemon are now native to sinnoh! :D

There are still people doing that?! I thought the guys who got the original 150 were hardcore.
Can anyone tell me the advantages of getting this game? Bare in mind that I didn't get Diamond/Pearl and I was waiting for a classy special edition to win me over.

Oh MAN, 'sif I only see this NOW. Ugh.
So I checked on the Exclusions list, and they don't have any DS games listed there. Does this mean I can just give them like.. 'Harry Potter' and 'Nintendogs' >_>

Well on a technicality any pokemon that requires an event to obtain doesnt count in game towards completion. Frankly I have no idea how im going to get the last 3.

Pretty much, yeah. No DS Exclusions as far as I'm aware :D

Well, it's one of the best games on the DS, and as I found out last night, you get Rotom the first time you visit the old chateau, so I'm actually thinking of putting Luxio in the box and training Rotom instead.
Waffling aside though, there's a nice balance of new and old pokemon in Platinum, they've expanded the sinnoh dex by about 60 or so and included all the old pokemon with new evolutions (example, you can now catch Ralts in the wild without the pokeradar, giving you access to Gallade, or Rhyhorn so you can get Rhyperior)
If you havn't gotten a pokemon game for the DS, this is definitely the one to get (until heart gold/soul silver come out, but it'll be at least a year before we see those :( ). The graphics, music, gameplay are all fantastic, just as long as you're not expecting a wildly different game to previous versions. The story is also a lot better in platinum, too. :D

This game is sooooooo gooooood (again/still). Totally up to Crasher Wake with my non-traded-over-team (I did this on purpose) of Torterra, Floatzel (kicks so much arse, I love it!) and Kadabra. Wake's Floatzel is raping me, though, so I gotta get another Pokemon.

Time for a Shinx, I'd say. Or use your Rotom, if you got it :D MEANWHILE, Jupiter's Skuntank is raping me (turns out my current team has a massive weakness to dark-type) so I'm training up a ponyta, currently. It's so boooring though ;_; Ah well.
...so I'm training up a ponyta, currently. It's so boooring though ;_; Ah well.THAT'S POKEMON! :D
I'm about to EV train my first Pokemon. Adamant Magikarp. I'm not worrying about individual values, because I can't be bothered breeding for weeks to get 31s, and I can't do a Lvl 100 battle with any ease. I've got two of them, I'm just going to EV train them both, see how they turn out.

SPEAKING OF MAGIKARPS, I heard that if you use a foreign pokemon in breeding, you have an increased chance of getting a shiny. Has anyone heard about this?
Also, training my ponyta just got better, because it just learnt ember. Winner! :D
Wish Nintendo would give you an Item to turn one of your pokemon shiny. Ive never seen a single shiny pokemon in ten years and believe me ive put enough hours in :(

Are you guys sure there are absolutely no exceptions for JB's trade-2-get-it-free Pokemon Platinum deal? I've seen some cheap "Imagine" titles at GAME, will they be okay for trade bait?

They have no published DS exclusions list, no doubt they will soon.

I have:
Bulldozer, my Grotle
Razorblade, my Staravia
Omoikane, my Kadabra
Firage, my Ponyta
Waffles, my Luxio
and my HM Slave, Derpaderp, my Bidoof.
:D
And lol, I havn't stumbled upon a pikachu yet, unfortunately.

Nice team! I've just gotten to the explosion at the lake part, and have:
> Floatzel Lv. 47
> Kadabra Lv. 47
> Torterra Lv. 47
> Pichu Lv. 24 (I'm trying to get its happiness up via poffins/steps/vitamins so it can evolve before lv. 26 and learn Thunderbolt! I wanted Nasty Plot, so that's why I started with Pichu!)
...and other than HM slaves, I've got no idea who else to have for the Elite Four! Maybe some more water Pokemon? Kingler OMG!

Did the Hyper review actually tell us anything about this game? I mean they made the same point when they reviewed Diamond/Pearl and gave it 7/10. What are the new features again? I'm especially interested in what's changed in the way of pokedex, and all those other little options in this new version. Can I count on Whyme to PM me?
