Beta testing has started, but seeing as it's the first time they're doing it, it's only open to North American residents at this stage. Later on they'll be testing how it handles with people playing from around the world, but I don't have an idea when that will be. It's funny seeing people posting on their website "i hav a beast of a comp so i kno ill get in!" and then more level headed people telling them that just puts them into a category from which they will be randomly selected.
Still, to quote dude, everything is "moving forward"

didn't any of you play starwars galaxies before it got nerfed in to a sad WoW clone? entire cities built by players, the most advanced lvling and skill advancment system ever in a mmorpg (the manual was over 300 pages long), space combat, damn not just combat, I had a luxury cruiser with bars and viewing decks (all custom decorated with my own weapons and heads of instance bosses and animals I'd skinned) that could accomodate 30 other players so we could get close to a battle to check out the action in a serious guild fight .......... and to address the jedi/sith problem, if they take an example from what was for 5 years an awesome game it will take you a year or 3 to get close to becoming jedi or sith, and I'm not talking lvling, near impossible feats and getting to locations and items that just aren't part of normal play. And that was just to get "glowy", after that it took another 6 - 12 months to become jedi/sith, which were also infinitely variable classes depending on how u lvld them.

That was the one thing that was awesome about Galaxies. You had to put in heaps and heaps of play just to become a jedi/sith, players had the easy choice of becoming Han Solo types straight away or really working to accomplish something and enjoying the extra power it came with.
Now I know it would suck if you couldn't play as jedi/sith straight away in this gane. I'm just hoping that if you really put in the effort there will be a notable difference (like you become a jedi master or something).
