How's this for a gaming story - it was at a video store, but still of interest.
Well I'm working with another employee one night and some his friends come in. Well two of them immediately go and start hooking up in the back of the store (not the backroom mind you). This one friend of his is still in the front and talking to us. She's a blond, in one of those high school tennis team outfits. She always went to Agnes Irwin which if you know the Philly Suburb area produced some of the hottest girls on the planet (or it just seemed that way to me and others in High School). Well she's like it must be so fun to work in a video store (which to an extent it was). She asks if she can come behind the register. Of course that is cool with us. She then asks can she ring people up. We're like fine and for about 30-45 minutes she runs the register and we just act like we're training a new person to the customers. She becomes one of the most cheerful and pleasant people we ever had working there and she's very bouncy. Guys (and adult guys) really loved talking to her. I think some must have been upset later on that she wasn't a real employee. lol I really should have tried hitting on her, but I think I realized I sucked at it. So I decided to not even bother to try and to just have a nice conversation (which I did). She may also had not been single.courtesy of neogaf Last edited by SOX; 19-06-2012 at 12:07 PM. |

It was around 1994 and i had started at high school.
Too young for girls, my attention was mainly held by rugby league (Go Eels!), my Megadrive and collecting basketball cards. Penny Hardway was my idol - collected his cards like a fiend! I've still got them stashed in an Artari lynx zip up soft case, a sweet house to be sure. Basketball fever was in the air and games like Nba Jam and Run and gun were killing it at the arcades. The only catch was that at $2/qtr it was expensive entertainment. One day my mate James and I skipped school, jumped a train into town and snuck into the local Playtime. We were cruizing around the arcade when we noticed a guy playing Nba Jam. A crowd would usually be gathered, but since it was school hours the joint was dead. We sidled up to the machine when James spotted it first. The guy had 34 credits. 34! How, who, what... $70!! Which?? We just stared at the number for what seemed like an age when the guy, who must have noticed our puzzled faces said something like "boys, i'll show ya a secret, but don't tell everybody". The guy reached into his pocket and pulled out... easy tiger... a 20 cent piece. He then proceeded to rub his feet on the carpet like he was trying to clean mud off them. After about 15 seconds of this he did a little jump/hop whilst tapping the 20pc against the steel coinslot faceplate. The machine started making pleasant 'ding, ding, ding' noises and the credit count cycled up to 50. Our chins dropped. Over the next month James and I - armed with our magic voodoo - played the sheet out of that game. We would wait for the coast to be clear before performing the ritual that the dude had showed us. It never failed. Rub, jump and touch, 50 credit everytime. We quickly became the #1 ranked team and a fair opponent for any challenges. Due to the high credits we were happy to share, but we never gave up the secret. We just offered weak excuses which seemed to make them stop or go away, even the gaming attendants never really grilled us on it. All goods things must come to an end and this was no exception. James and I met up on the weekend and were heading to 'our game' when we spotted two younger kids in front of the cabinet furiously rubbing their feet on the ground. The secret was out. What they didn't know and were soon to discover though was that Playtime had also just caught wise to the scam and installed a dazzling loud alarm to the machine. The second the 20 touched, the place lit up. By the time their feet hit the ground they were already a blur as they piss bolted out the door white as ghosts. The jig was up, but we had a good run and I'll never forget it. To James! wherever you are... Last edited by matja; 20-06-2012 at 10:51 AM. |

I used to enjoy playing Ghosts And Goblins in video game arcades. It was 20c. Then one day it was $1 to play, and the joysticks didn't work on any of the machines in any of the arcades, making it impossible to win or enjoy. Then the arcades all closed down.
Now I'm basically waiting to die.

I head over to Thailand every couple of years. Instead of arcade machines they just have booths or sit-down cabinets with ps2/3's inside. Winning 11, burnout 3 and more recently sf4 are the staples.
