I wouldn't say it's surprising, it's not like they didn't like the original, they just recognised that it was an extremely solid shooter that whilst fun was not quite on the level of its peers. Resistance 2 has looked all along like it would be the kind of killer console FPS the original was supposed to be.

Got the game, so far the one thing I have to say is, THE MAGNUM ROCKS.

That and basically all the problems I had with the first game gameplay wise have been fixed.

Graphically it's a mixed bag, the outdoor levels like the forest and places like Chicago look gorgeous, but some places look a bit crappy. As an overall package the game stomps on the first game.

Played some co-op too and for me it's one of the stand out modes of the game. Played some US servers and no lag whatsoever, problem is that most of the servers were full.

Overall, I'm happy with the game, did I mention that the magnum rocks? :P

But yeah, I know the game ain't popular here, but anyone who's getting the game at the end of this month, let's play some online co-op together. It's blast when you play with 7 other players.

The censorship is disc-specific.
To those who were disappointed to play the original on their Japanese PS3s.

i am absolutely dumbstruck by how HARD it is to do ANYTHING on the PS3.
tried to play some co-op tonight and (after the system update and installation) the process was just CUMBERSOME.

I was hoping that maybe some people could shed some light on things...

1) can you have a private chat while in the game? I managed to get a chat going on the dashboard but once i booted resistance 2 it cancelled it.
2) when i received a game invite there was no option to 'accept', only to 'reply' ?!?
3) when trying to invite people to a lobby it kept on giving me the message 'account does not exist' - what does that mean?
4) after finally getting a coop game going, everyone eventually died and we got booted back to the main game screen... why do you not just go back to the lobby so you can try again?

i was really keen to enjoy this game but i just cannot get the hang of this PSN stuff.
any help appreciated.

I also experienced all of your problems. It's so frustrating to see the scrolling text at the bottom of the screen sprout off bullshit like "You can invite your friends to play" - when it's a blatant lie.

It took me and an online friend half an hour just to get one game sorted and then it dumped us out into the main screen afterwards, whereupon I had to search for the game name all over again.

I'm also quite frustrated with the single player campaign. The level design is just awful at times, particularly when it comes to the residential settings. None of the environments feel real, it's all so artificial, flat, repetitive - especially when you see copy+pasted bedrooms in houses.

I also keep thinking that the colour scheme is just..off. It's like they used the wrong shades for everything. Hard to explain.

Still, the multi is quite impressive - 60 players on one map is a definite step forwards and I'm enjoying the co-op missions quite a bit.

So I take it that the game's probably not worth buying right now if you're going to be playing mostly single-player? My PSN Friends list is about a tenth the size of my Live list and I don't have a mic.

I don't have a mic either. But the matchmaking is really smooth. With co op, you get teamed up with up to seven other people and tasked with, basically, killing a crap-load of enemies.

Competitive multiplayer is also fine without a mic, as I only really talk if I'm with friends anyway.

But wouldn't a mic be pretty important for co-op play because you have to be able to communicate in order to strategise and co-operate?

So it sounds like random co-op matches are easy to setup, but doing so with friends is a pain?

I've only played single player so far (obv) but it's disappointing to hear about all these problems even after the game's been patched at least once.

Oh yeah and I agree with Lothar about the colour palette. There's something not quite right about it...
