Quite enjoying this game. It controls well; level design is tailored nicely for variety. Visually it's a pleasure, simply using primary colours; yellow inhabits the foreground with the copious amounts of sand while the blue splits the background from the foreground with Dubai's skyline; red fits in nicely for when a sandstorm tears through the city. Rounding off the experience is its Vietnam radio rock soundtrack which strangly suits the given situations they're used in.
I was under the impression gameplay would be more tactical from the preview printed in Hyper (from what feels like years ago now), yet so far it's fairly straight forwards in telling your squadmates who you want them to shoot, which is good; if there's someone in the distance causing strife a button press has the team sniper snuff them out. Nolan North's character couldn't be any more solemn making for a nice difference in comparison to infinite wit Drake pukes out in Uncharted; most of the whimsical dialogue comes from the other two team members while Walker (the protag) aims to keep them in check. |

Finish the game today on Suicidal. Overall the story and atmosphere really drags Spec Ops above just being 'another shooter'. The character interactions between Walker and his squad during his journey was quite engaging.
I just wished the entire 'sand' mechanic was developed more than just a few set pieces. That was the only reason why I even remembered the game whilst browsing JB Hifi. |

Indeed, I like how the squad dialogue becomes increasingly unnerved and angry as the events of the game start to wear on the main characters. Really helps to sell the atmosphere they've got going, there.

The gameplay in the demo really disappointed me (and I didn't have terribly high expectations), but everyone's super high on the story and its implementation, so I'll make sure I pick it up when I see it cheap.

The gameplay never seemed like a chore and things kept clicking over at a fair-rate. I can honestly say that this is probably the first game in a while that's kept driving me on due to the intriguing story and the voice acting too. Not the greatest game in history, but extremely memorable and a real highlight for me this year. Will no-doubt go highly unappreciated though. Maybe if it was called "Call of Duty: The Line" it may get a better reception.
